Scott and Phil are the best bartenders! They always make their guests feel welcome. The food is always great at Jimmy’s and the happy hour food specials can’t be beat.

The food part? Yes! The cocktails part? No! I don’t know who mixes those, but they are not mixed well. Nothing worked in the Adult Arnie and I wound up ordering a glass of wine and ignoring the cocktail. The Happy Hour deals are pretty good, and there’s a LOT of options. I went with the Tavern Burger, which was delightful and would order again. My friend, who is a healthier person than I am, ordered the Chicken Satay, but wound up not eating the soba noodles and ordering the meatloaf with mashed potatoes. She swears it was amazing, and I might just order that the next time I stop in after work. All in all, not a bad place. Quite busy during Happy Hour, because when you work in Eden Prairie your options tend to be limited. The food is good enough, and just stick to the wine and beer and you can’t go wrong.

Jimmy’s is near my company’s office building and is a place we frequent for events with out of town clients and co-workers. We’ve always had a pretty good experience so I was really surprised when we didn’t the other day. We had a day long team event and showed up a little after 3 pm for their Happy Hour menu that starts at 3. The restaurant and bar were empty. When the server/host found out that there were nine of us, he said, «That’s going to be a problem.» Looking around, we couldn’t understand how that would be a problem as there were only 3 other customers in the place. He said he would have to talk to his manager. We stood in the lobby until he returned and told us that we could have the larger booth in the bar but had to leave by 4:30 because it was reserved. That wasn’t really a problem so we agreed. The server also seemed displeased with our presence. She brought 2 happy hour menus and a full wine menu for 9 people. It took a little time to review since we had to share our menus. She kept seeming inconvenienced by the time. We got our drinks and food in a timely manner and made sure we cleared out before 4:30. I happened to stay at Jimmy’s with a co-worker because we had some time to kill. We moved to the bar and noticed that no one had come to sit at the reserved tables when we left at 5:45. The bar was packed and it was standing room only yet 3 big tables were sitting empty for hours. I fail to understand why our presence that afternoon was such an inconvenience for everyone who was working. We do have a lot of other options for our corporate events and will be considering them when the next one comes up.

I was quite pleased by my dinner and experience tonight. Anna had great recommendations and provided outstanding service. This was the most flavorful halibut I’ve ever had. The ribeye was also quite delicious and I’d have to put this place in my top 3 list of steak houses. I would not hesitate to return when in the area again.

Service was kinda weak – no hostess and none of the servers or bartenders acknowledged us when we came in. I finally had to go up to one of them and ask if we could be seated(sign up front says to wait to be seated). They only gave us one menu(there were 3 of us), so I had to get up and get another menu myself. They didn’t bring us water, which I think is an expectation at an upscale restaurant. Never offered to refill our other beverages either, but once our food came out we never saw them again anyway. At first I thought they were understaffed, but we were there for HH on a Sunday, only half tables full in bar area and dining room was empty. At least 4 – 5 people on staff. While it took a long time to be seated, order, etc(I also had to flag someone down to ask for our bill), the food came out quickly and is the only reason this review made 3 stars. It was delish! Best thing we had was the shrimp from the HH menu. The bread and sauce were phenomenal. Skip the guac, only so so. The chicken skewers with peanut sauce was also yummy.

Jimmys must be doing something right as it seems to have a really strong crowd on most nights. The location in Minnetonka just off HWY62 at first may seem strange, but it is in the middle of a large area packed with offices as well as the new Optum HQ just to the south so it can be pretty busy. We’ve been dining here for years and have always found something on the menu that we like. Often, we will just have a meal of appetizers as there are several that we are quite fond of including the shrimp and the tenderloin sliders. Add a couple glasses of wine and you are good to go. I like that they are on open table as it makes things easier knowing you can get right in when you arrive.
