I went there for the first time two weeks ago. I’ve now been there three times. I’ll be going back again VERY soon. Seriously stellar food. The Helicopter burger is off the charts good. Even more so since it’s grass fed beef. They care about the(healthy, local, eco-friendly) details. Also, I haven’t eaten seafood or anything out of the ocean(not even seaweed) for over 15 years. After going there for the first two times, I couldn’t resist. I got the fish and chips. It was amazing. I went home really full and incredibly happy. I WILL be getting that again.

Since 400 some odd people can already affirm this place is freaking awesome. I’m just going to carry on with what isn’t highlighted… I’ve had basically the entire menu. Its all divine. The fish and chips, which I personally douse with malt vinegar and season with salt, is their signature item. The Shepards Pie is probably one of my favorite items to order off the menu for when I’m in the mood for some home cooking, but remember I’m a terrible cook. The big portions ensure leftovers too. I was just introduced to the famous Helicopter Burger my last visit and finally understood all the hype about this burger. While unique in flavor, what really made it amazing was the grassfed beef. I was spoiled with growing up on a farm and having unlimited stock of such hamburger and a bite of that hamburger took me back to the farm. Albeit, the toasted bun, over easy egg, and ham made this hamburger quite a few notches higher than anything made at home, but the quality is most notably there. The best thing about here is the service. Our waitress recognizes my friends and I, knows their orders(I switch it up too often!). It’s usually a long wait in cramped quarters but its so worth it.

Definitely a NE favorite! Best fish & chips in MN! Conveniently located in the arts district. The traditional Irish brunch is also quite tasty, although only served in weekends until 12pm. Casual, laid back atmosphere. Anchor is a popular spot on weekends, especially Friday nights, although you can always order take out from the bar & take it a few blocks over to dangerous man! Closed Mondays.

We went to Anchor on recommendations of a friend. Our two kids, 10 and 12 went with us and we all ordered fish and chips. Our server was wonderful, the fish was a whole cod fillet and is not frozen. The batter they used was excellent, not too thick which made a very crispy fish. We tried the mushy beans, baked beans and coleslaw, everything was wonderful.

Great fish and chips. Maybe the best I’ve ever had. Not overly greasy as most places. They have nailed the breading on the fish. Be prepared to wait for a table.

Love love love this place! I could do without the ridiculous wait in the summer months, but the fish is always perfect. I like sitting at the counter watching the guys cook the fish. It always comes out raging hot, crisp, juicy and tender. Their tartar sauce is delicious, it’s the one place a actually like to malt my fries, but I recommend a cup of gravy to dip your fries in. I’d love to try their other foods as well, but never get past the fish. One fish basket easily feeds two people, and I love to eat a lot! The downsides? The long wait, every time, and you smell like a deep frier when you leave. So not the best place to start your night out if you care about how you smell.

Overall the wait was well worth it, but being in a crowded enclosed space by the door… that, that was quite a challenge for us. It could have been the overwhelming smell of food, with our tummies rumbling, or that we had our beers in our hand that would cause a lovely accident, if push comes to shove. But let’s start from the beginning. Upon entering the restaurant, you come across this curtain screen that obstructs your view, but you want to proceed in because you can smell delicious fries, I mean chips, and fish cooking in the atmosphere. Once your in, the hostess will come and find you to ask for your name and party size(this was on a Friday night). Afterward she then informs you about grabbing a drink and waiting near the door until your table is ready. On to the course. We didn’t want to order anything else besides the fish and chips but they had other items that seem worth a try. Our fish and chips were freshly made and if you sit at the bar you watch the whole process being done. The Alaskan cod was huge, dipped in batter and with each bite, it melts in your mouth. The chips had a great potato taste to them but some were soggy if left under your fish for too long. I opted to go without tartar sauce, and asked for a slice a lemon instead. I dipped mine in a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar and it was perfect. I can’t complain other then it is a huge portion, so you can easily overkill your taste buds(if you’re the type to like to enjoy a little of something great versus a lot of the same dish, even if it’s good or not). Overall, we will be returning but will probably order one fish and chips entrée and add a second fish, instead, for two people.

This spot had been on my list for a while after hearing such good reviews, and it was very good! Came in on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm and the place was very busy. Our group of four had to wait around 15 minutes and then got seated in a booth. I was surprised it was so busy so late in the afternoon/early before dinner so we were lucky we didn’t decide to go closer to dinnertime. I ordered the fish and chips and they were delicious! And a very big serving. You can order tartar sauce on the side for $ 0.50 but I used the salt and vinegar instead. It was so filling I ended up taking half home and enjoying later. The menu was short and simple. They had a lot of unique Irish foods that I haven’t seen many other places, which was cool! Our server was very friendly and wasn’t too pushy even though we got lost track of time and sat in our spot a little longer than we should have!

I love Anchor Fish & Chips! I’m a fish and chips connoisseur. If there is fish and chips on the menu, I will always order because I love it that much. Anchor has the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been iving on the east coast for a few years now. Anchor’s fish is large, crispy and flavorful. The batter isn’t soggy ever. The portion of fish is always generous and it’s reasonably priced. In jacksonville, FL and Charleston, Sc, some places charge up to $ 20 for fish and chips. Anchor makes their tartar sauce here and that compliments the fish nicely. They have large steak fries that are pretty good. I always order a side of curry sauce to dip them in. They changed their curry sauce recipe a while ago and the old recipe was better. I’m not sure if anyone has noticed but I did and was a little disappointed even thought it was still good. I’ve tried their shepherd’s pie here and that was ok. I won’t be ordering that again when I know they have the best fish and chips. Every time I go back to MN, I always make a trip out here to remember what delicious fish and chips tastes like.

My boyfriend & I LOVE this place! The servers are insanely friendly & attentive. The food is always hot & fresh. & of course, the fish & chips are delicious. My parents were stationed in the UK for a period of time &, having experienced«authentic» fish & chips, rave about the fish here. To those complaining about the noise or «crampiness» of Anchor, that’s part of the appeal! It’s a small, intimate, locally-owned joint. There is no need for an oversized space with such quick service & delicious food. I would rather wait in line at a place with lots of charisma than be seated right away at a cookie-cutter, mediocre restaurant.

Anchor was the second of two recommendations from our tour guide at Norseman. So impressed with Dangerous Man, we hustled on over to Anchor for a bite. While it appears that there’s frequently a line for this place, our timing must have been perfect because we were seated immediately. While I love fish and chips each for their respective qualities, as a dish it is something I rarely order or crave. Instead, I went with the black bean burger with irish cheddar. The manfriend, however, is a big fan and enthusiastically ordered a plate as well as tartar sauce and a side of curry for his fries. I’ve got to say, homemade or not, I think it’s really odd to charge extra for tartar sauce with fish and chips; it gives off that impression that you’re being nickel and dimed. It feels like charging extra grated cheese on a pasta dish or ketchup for french fries. I also thought the price of the sides was pretty steep and not on par with the offerings. $ 3.75 for soup cup of each side, like cole slaw, curry and gravy, seems obscene to me. Both of us found our meals enjoyable. I tried his fish and chips and thought they were good, but not stand in line to wait for a table awesome. I wasn’t sure what made them far and away better than other fish and chip offerings. The only disappointment was the curry; it was thick, like it could’ve been blended or processed a little longer. It reminded me of the consistency of homemade tomato soup. It was also a large portion for a single order. Had we used it all, his chips would’ve been drowned in it. To me, it would have made more sense to offer a small side option. Service was friendly and attentive. We received a few more recommendations to help us continue our impromptu bar crawl around Minneapolis. Bottom line, the food is good, but the hype is lost on me. You wouldn’t find me waiting more than a few minutes in line for a table.

I love this place. I have no idea what else is on the menu bc the fish & chips are so good. The servers are always great. For some reason we are seated in the same both every time we go, but that suits me just fine. Hotdish says he’s sat at the counter before and that’s not a bad place to sit in a pinch. I’ve heard the British brunch is great too, but I’ve not been.

Perfect for the Northeast neighborhood and you can always count on a damn good meal. I typically get the Fish n Chips — It is, after all, «The Real Deal». Watch them hand-batter and fry it up right there behind the counter. Tonight, I opted for the summer special burger with«rashers»(bacon), whiskey caramelized onions and Irish cheddar. Can I just say, I’ll be sad to see summer come to an end… The fries are always grease heavy, but I think that’s by design. Wash ‘em down with a $ 3.50 Nordeast draft. The good food notwithstanding, what really keeps us going back is the outstanding service we get time and time again. Jill is an absolute doll that treats us like neighborhood friends. Makes a damn good experience great!

Best fish and chips in the city! If you aren’t into fish and chips, get that Helicopter burger with egg, cheese and ham on top! You will not regret this amazing place! Fresh fish and tartar sauce!

Ahh a tough one to review! I didn’t fall for it at all! The fish and shepherds pie both tasted good but nothing exceptional great about them! I prefer Sea Salts fish over Anchors! Fries were to die for! Service was very fast, food was out in 7⁄8 mins. This place charges you for tartar sauce? Really? And no malt vinegar?!?

Totally in love with this place and I can’t believe how inexpensive it was. I sort of felt bad tipping the waitress 20% of $ 30 for a $ 60 meal. Really great quality. Try the curry sauce with your fries. You’ll soon be hooked!

I recently visited the Anchor for my first time and I have to say it was a great experience. The Anchor is a cool little restaurant in the NE section of Minneapolis featuring fish and chips. Entering we grabbed a nice little high top next to the windows in order to watch the people scurrying about in the rain and ordered up the house specialty along with a tall Harp’s. In no time at all there was a big beautiful fillet of cod in front of me, freshly made to order laying upon a bed of chips. The breading was light, the fish was delicious, and their house made tartar sauce was to die for. And it all washed down nicely with the Harp’s. If you are looking for some good fish and chips in a very hip environment and at a reasonable price I would recommend dropping anchor at the Anchor.

I absolutely love The Anchor Fish and Chips. Mr. C. and I have come here a number of times in the last 3 years. The owners are great. We had Kathryn as our server today and she also runs the bar area and she’s fabulous. They are lovely people who have a passion for making real delicious food. The fish is always fresh, piping hot and crispy. The chips are thick cut and salty just the way they should be. Fish and Chips was always a staple for my family and I, and growing up, we always went to the harbor to buy the freshest crispy batter fried fish and chips imaginable, wrapped up in newspaper, doused in salt and vinegar. Finger-licking good and always a treat for supper. So coming to The Anchor is kinda like a trip down memory lane for me. 25 years later, and in a different country. Located in the Northeast Arts district, close to Erte and The Modern Café. Street parking can be a slight hassle, but we don’t mind walking a block or two. Once inside, the space is small, and there is usually a bit of a wait. You will probably rub elbows with your neighbors when you sit down. There are maybe two booths, but mostly tables or bar seating. You won’t be disappointed. The food is worth the wait! Aside from the Fish and Chips, we have also had their Toasty and Chips. A nice grilled sandwich with ham, tomato, sautéed onions and Irish cheddar. This is a sandwich that’s not to be missed. If you order one toasty and one fish and chips, you can share with your dining partner and it’s quite a lot of food. I almost never finish my fish, even though I set out on a mission to clean my plate and I make sure I’m a hungry horse before even coming to Anchor. Prices are extremely reasonable($ 10.50 for the Fish and Chips dinner, $ 11.50 for the Toasty and Chips) Brews on tap: Guinness, Kilkenny, Fulton, Grain Belt, Harp, Smithwicks and delicious Magners Irish Cider. When I was in England I had some of the best fish and chips of my life. So if you’re looking for authentic fish and chips in Minneapolis, this is it. Enjoy!
