Solomon Optical

I came in with a pair of Ray Ban aviators that had lost their pads. I dropped them off, and came in the next day to find that not only have they replaced the pads, they also fit significantly better! Great service! I’ll definitely come back if I have any other issues, and will be recommending them to anyone who may need their help!

This is the best optical place in the Twin Cities, by far. The customer service is top notch, a rare find these days. Their selection of frames is unbelievable!!!

Great store! Barbara and Margaret are very helpful in selecting glasses. Solomon has a wide variety of unusual glasses that I have not seen in other stores, such as round tortoise shell glasses. The store is small, but when you ask Barbara or Margaret to show you some options, the store becomes very big. Few stores will compete with the unique styles Solomon has to offer or can easily get from their distributors, such as Anglo American. Even though it is in the skyway, the store has an «old» feel to it. Strongly recommend the store.

I had been searching for an optometrist for weeks and finally chose Soloman Optical based on reviews. The staff, both opticians and optometrist I saw, was awesome. Extremely friendly and I felt completely relaxed and comfortable while I was there. Yes, the location as mentioned by another reviewer is … unique. It’s a very tight space and a bit outdated. However, I still believe I received excellent eye care and would definitely recommend others to use Solomon for an eye exam.
4 stars because their glasses selection is somewhat limited. Prices seemed pretty reasonable though.

As a Downtown (pseudo)professional, I have the joy of finding convenient places for errands and such. With a pair of broken glasses, I stopped into Solomon Optical and had them repaired in no time. The staff is incredibly quirky (in a Seinfeld kind of way), endearing, and helpful.
They, usually a staff of three, run a somewhat fly by the seat of your pants ship as they dodge piles of papers, glasses orders, various items from the 90s, and promotional materials. How endearing, I thought. So, I made an appointment with their optometrist who’s in once a week since I was due for a check up. With the appointment I made, they didn’t charge me for fixing my glasses. On a side note: if you buy glasses from them, adjustments are always free of charge.
When I arrived for my appointment the following week, I let them know that I was only interested in getting contacts but they sat me down anyway and had me try on about 20 different glasses. I’m glad they did this for the woman who was helping me knew exactly what she liked and didn’t like for my face and coloring — so helpful! They really do offer great service that is honest and upfront.
The reason I’m giving them three stars is mostly attributed to the chaotic state of things. The optometrist was a very nice woman and completely capable. The exam room, however, was cramped, inefficient, with outdated/​uncleaned equipment, and no sink to wash my hands in before sticking my fingers in my eyes. I just don’t know if I can get over the actual condition of the Solomon Optical space.

I made an appointment here because I work downtown and they could get me in over my lunch hour. Really interesting place! They are kind of behind the times as far as their filing system and credit card payment system goes but don’t let that scare you. They have some of the most interesting, funky frames to choose from and a very knowledgeable gal that probably has been working there forever that will help you pick. (See my profile pic) I would’ve never picked the glasses I ended up with but I have received so many compliments that I am thankful I listened to the professional. My glasses took two weeks to arrive which I think is acceptable. Prices are a bit steep but it totally helps if you have eye insurance… like I did for the first time in 10 years. Now if I need my glasses adjusted I just swing in on my lunch break and it is taken care of right away! Check it out!

Being «blessed» with nearly perfect vision, I’ve had the privilege to go to the optician annually to get a new pair of frames for the past six years in a row. Needless to say, I’m not new to the game.
I’ve never been more comfortable at a new optometrist before. The staff there, Barbara and her colleague, are incredibly knowledgeable. You sit down, explain your style and what you are looking for and what you are willing to try and they will bring the glasses literally to you. Barbara even gave me a few pairs that were outside of my normal comfort zone but because she handed them to me, I was willing to try. I’m now the proud owner of RED frames (perhaps I will be spunky and post a picture for your review!).
Barbara even did a quick maintenance on my existing pair of glasses — tightening the screws, giving them a nice cleaning and even treating them with anti-​fog stuff so that they wouldn’t get misty in the lovely Minnesota winter weather!
I was also in the market for new contact lenses and the ladies were so generous as to give me multiple different kinds to try.
They work with you on price and you are in and out in an hour — exam and all. They also have been in business over 60 years, so these folks know their trade…
Overall, a GREAT experience!

this place is something else. barbara is the best. she is very helpful, knows eyeglass fashion better than the magazines, and will go out of her way to make your experience successful. this is a family owned business and barbara really cares about her patients. if you fall asleep on your glasses, they will adjust them for you… for free, just stop in. want your frames made into sunglasses, they can help. need specialty frames for a photo shoot? they can help. service is fairly quick, rates are reasonable, and they are willing to work with you. just tell barbara what you need and she will make it happen.
an example: my partners 13 year old son broke his glasses. we were out of town so i called barbara and asked if we could send the him in without us. she said sure. he rode the bus downtown and went to the appointment by himself. she took care of everything from there.

I was one of those kids that REALLY REALLY wanted to wear glasses because the frames were cool but did not need them. Well, now I do and I went on a hunt for great service and subtle sexy style.
After visiting places on the Uptown strips, Edina Area, value shops and so on, I stumbled into Solomon’s with little hope and a lot of need. I purchased my first pair of glasses a few months ago and! wow! are they fabulous!
The service was out of this world for Minnesota and the prices varied enough for the budget shoppers. I was fitted for my glasses, chose a case and they were ready to pick up in just a few hours! As a first time optical assistance owner I was taught how to clean and adjust my new sexy helpers from a pro.
