I am still heart broken that this place has closed. It was hands down the best sushi I had ever had. Does anyone know where the expert sushi chef from the Social house works these days?

I guess I would need to be a big sushi guy to add a star! The food here was very good, even for a guy that isn’t crazy about sushi. The room is nice, service was very good but I thought it was a little overpriced, again hard to judge for a guy that doesn’t do a lot of sushi. I can say the drinks here were very overpriced and not very well done. I think they are just trying to fit the cocktail crowd places with all of their creative cocktails and interesting mixes but the prices were high and the finished product was half-assed. I’d come back for the sushi, go somewhere else for a few $ 10 cocktails and feel better about it, and would still be hungry a few hours later! KT

Cool and hip, Social House has just the right atmosphere for uptown, but severely lacking on the food and operational management front. A group of 7 girls and I went in for dinner on a hot and very humid night at 7:30. Dressed up, Friday night, date night and happy hour transitioning to dinner central, expecting to drop 50 on food and drinks, and there was no AC. We were melting, uncomfortable, and grumpy. A few people in my group complained, and after 45 minutes of waiting for the AC to kick in in the main dining area, we were finally moved to the much cooler bar area. It wasn’t explained to us why the AC wasn’t turned on, but we got the impression the system couldn’t handle the entire dining space or maybe someone just forgot to turn it on, who knows. On to the more important and disappointing part of the night, the food. I got the Korean Tacos and Veggie Tempura. Don’t get them. On the taco, the«kimchi» or pickled red onion and cabbage were so vinegary and potent, while the beef was almost non-existent and poorly cooked, it basically tasted like crunchy vinegar on generic soft taco shell. The Veggie Tempura was just so haphazardly done I can’t really call it Tempura. 9 dollars for a plate and randomly chopped veggies(likely chopped for the purposes of stir fry), tossed in generic tempura batter, and fried all at the same time. That means some veggies are over cooked while others are under cooked. I tried a few items that other friends ordered. The sushi was sub par for the area, especially when Origami is so near. By sub par, read rolls do not maintain their shape, fish is not skillfully prepared, and disappointing quality of ingredients in the rolls. On the plus side, the Hamachi Kama was actually pretty tasty. The crafted mixed drinks were sweet and crowd pleasing. I also heard the happy hour is quite good as well. If I ever go to Social House again, it’ll only be for the happy hour it seems.

Good ambiance, music and friendly staff. We were first led to the low lying sofa but because we were a big group and would be difficult to interact, we asked for a shift to another table and arrangements were made and we were led to a better, more comfy table in less than a minute. The sushi was phenomenal! The starters were good. I took one star away coz the drinks which we ordered– Jenna Jameson and Watermelon Martini was pretty bad and the dessert– Crème Brulee was just about OK. But otherwise we would definitely go back when we visit MN again for sushi but with iced tea or coke.

Went to social house for dinner and this place was pretty chill. The food was just average though. I probably wouldn’t go back for dinner. I find it more of a place that you go for drinks.

I went to Social House for the first time on a Thursday evening. Lucky for us, it was Date Night! They have a special where you can get one appetizer, 2 entrees and a bottle of wine for only $ 30.00! Not bad. Portions were not reduced as can be on some Date Night menus. Choices are very limited of course. For the appetizer we had a small salad with sweet rice vinegar dressing. The entrees we chose were one sushi roll and one marinated chicken teriyaki dish. The sushi roll was good, I’ve had better and worse sushi rolls here in the twin cities. The teriyaki chicken dish had good flavor and plenty of vegetables(steamed asparagus, green beans, broccoli) but unfortunately, the chicken was dry and overdone. The asparagus was limp and overcooked as well and the broccoli was almost mushy. The bottle of wine(we chose white-it’s either white or red) was not the greatest. If you go to Social House, I would highly reccomend sticking with sushi and salads and not venturing into the cooked items on the menu. The vibe here is pretty cool, very modern Japanese décor. There is very funky wallpaper in the dining room and plenty of space between tables. I would come back here for drinks and maybe sushi.

After several return trips to Social House, I feel compelled to update my initial 5-star review to proclaim Social House as the finest Twin Cities sushi joint!!! Sushi connoisseurs may balk at my assertion, but stand by it I will. Social House consistently rolls up some insanely good sushi, outperforming Origami(especially the pitiful Uptown location), Masu, and Fuji Ya. Swing on by during HH(4−6pm daily, I think) for unbeatable deals on «Tier 1» rolls. Lucky you, the Caterpillar Roll is on this list. AMAZING. Fat chunks of avocado and flavorful eel drizzled with sweet, sticky eel sauce. The spicy salmon consists of sashimi amped up with sriracha, which undoubtedly trumps the typical paste-y ground fish mixture jammed inside spicy rolls. The non-sushi HH munchies are also worth trying. I’ve ordered a variety, none of which are remarkably delicious, but all tasty enough to make my belly happy. Be warned, these small plates will max out your sodium intake for at least the next week. Social House fits the bill for all kinds of occasions… date night, late night, parties, large group gatherings. Just go.

Went here with some girlfriends for the first time after reading the reviews on Unilocal. We went for happy hour and were very happy with the selection and prices. We got edamame for a starter then each got a selection of roles that were half price. They were all excellent and we were very satisfied. Our server and host were great and very attentive. I would stick to going during happy hour because the prices seem a bit high. Excellent sushi, service, and price! We will be back!

The pricing does NOT justify the quality of the food at all. I ordered a roll of sushi which was decent and all but a little too salty for my liking. I also got some scallop sushi which was pretty expensive but tastes just alright. The service was alright as well. Really nothing special about this place. Overall, there’s many better restaurants in Uptown. Not recommended.

I’ve been a regular at Social House since moving to Uptown last year. Good bartenders, funny staff, and Jeff the General Manager always comes over with an handshake and a «hello.» I’m really happy they’ve extended happy hour – now starting at 7pm, which is perfect for a weeknight date. We had the cheeseburger egg rolls, three sushi rolls and drinks for under $ 40. What a deal! Social House impresses me with their creative and impeccable sushi. Their chefs are true artists. Sadly, the same can’t be said for their entrees, and that’s why I’m giving 4 stars. Our Valentine’s Day dinner featured undercooked rice and overcooked steak. Since then, we’ve only ordered sushi and appetizers, and those are perfect every time. I’d be happy if they ditched the traditional kitchen all togther – just please keep the deep frier for egg rolls! They’re fantastic. Good for date night, but also to impress your friends and family who live in the suburbs. Trendy, chic, and reasonably priced for the quality and service.

I think Social House might be the new spot. So many of my homies have thrown birthday celebrations here, and they have always been bumpin’! Last night was no exception, as the hip-hop community celebrated notable b-boy, house-head and everyone’s favorite Filipino, Ozzy D. Happy b-day fam! The designers and decorators of the interior should get promotions, because it would be hard to find a more intimate and loungie space in the Twin Cities than Social House. The multicolored low-lights, comfortable seating, and dangling Asian lanterns make me want to chill here all night. It’s also perfect for the honies and fellas that love to take selfies of their fly outfits. Haha. But it’s even better that one of the best DJs in the Twin Cities Tyberius N. –aka Tyrone– spins here every Friday. Ty ALWAYS kills it on the«wheels of steel» with classic 90s hip-hop and r&b. I got mad love for him, since he always throws down classic tracks like Zhane — Hey Mr. DJ; Inoj — I Want to be Your Lady Baby; and Aaliyah — Are You that Somebody? *Side note: Tyberius N. won City Pages Best DJ of the Year at the age of 16! He’s that good! Even though the music is blastin’, it won’t break your eardrums. It’s the perfect place to groove to jams or catch-up with old friends. If you are not into bro-bars, cramped spaces, and singing Bön Jovi’s «It’s my Life» or Def Leppard’s «Pour Some Sugar on Me», then give Social House your Friday night. In addition to the atmosphere, I found the bartenders and servers to be very friendly and fast throughout the night. Shout-out to Zous Y. and Huy N. for buying me drinks! Unfortunately, I have yet to try any of the food, but I’ll most certainly be back in the future to try happy hour. I miss Azia and the Catapillar Lounge on 26th and Nicollet, and so far, Social House makes me miss those places a little less.

I have a warm spot in my heart(and stomach) for Social House. The food has always been very good(although relatively pricey), but both times I’ve gone there I had very good company which was paired nicely with the great ambiance that Social House evokes. You can get sushi a lot of places, but this is an upscale, trendy, very modern restaurant, so it’s great for a special occasion but still casual enough to just pop in if that’s what you feel like. If you’re a fan of sashimi the Shiro Maguro Escolar is amazing. As far as rolls go, I don’t like anything tempura very much so I’d personally recommend the South Pacific and the Abunai Roll.

This place is really nice. Apparently Wednesday is the day they get fresh fish deliveries(the truck was parked outside closing up shop and leaving when we arrived for a 7:00 reservation, and the waitress told us), the fish selection is moderate. All the usual suspects but nothing special. Our waitress was nice, but she was a 23 yr old girl from Detroit who was new(a couple weeks max) to sushi. Actually she was very pleasant, attentive, appropriately interactive, but quite un knowledgable of sushi. The 4 of us chose(ok, I chose for the table) the chef selection. What a great choice! It seems that one can order $xx per person and the chef will create to that budget. We were suggested perhaps $ 25 pp, but chose to increase to 35, and how happy we all were about it! I really can’t recall which rolls were delivered, but we had about 7plates of 2 rolls per plate until we finally had to cut the chef off as we were cooked! Every single one was original and quite outstanding. A number of «tacos» came together, and although each was delicious, all 4 of us found them awkward to eat, and we actually used our hands to pick them up. There was some tuna sashimi, and about 13 other rolls, most were off menu creations. Finally, the head chef did come to our table and greet us as he presented his first creation. This was a nice touch! $ 20 or so bottle of decent wine, s’mores egg roll(try it… yummm) for a finale! Go here and enjoy! Great food, really nice staff. To improve, I’d like to see more interesting fish options on the menu. Perhaps toro or pencil fish, or whatever. Also, fresh wasabi is nice to have when requested…

Late night happy hour is a must. Starts at 9pm and runs till 11pm Monday-Thursday. Lots to select from on their extensive menu. I visited the Social House awhile ago and came back to try their late night happy hour. I was VERY pleased with the quality of food and even more pleased with the selection. Our server was very knowledgeable and down-to-earth. She recommended the bacon cheeseburger egg rolls, which was not to any of our liking so they had to be sent back. She also recommended the Korean Tacos, which were great and the Tokudan Tacos, which was AMAZING. Good picks from her. The joint has recently expanded and it looks great, it has a very laid back lounge like vibe that should do well in Minneapolis. Overall the place was fine. I will certainly be back.

I wanted to love this place, the décor was adorable and the seating was fun but that’s about it. Three of us went at about 9 pm on a Thursday night for drinks and desserts. It was not too busy but it took our waiter a long time before he even greeted our party — instead going to tables that had been seated after us. Once we finally ordered it took again, about 15 — 20 minutes for our drinks to even come out(a friend had ordered food and it came before the drinks). My friend’s drink was really good — the Hickory and Honey — while mine — Raspberry Coco Frappé — tasted and smelt like vomit. I had everyone try it and they agreed. On top of that, there were blueberries in the bottom of my drink? I didn’t even say anything about it because the waiter never even bothered to come by and see how the food/drinks were. To top it off the bill was wrong at the end and we had to go to the hostess to get it figured out. I’ll only come back if I’ve already been drinking and don’t know any better. $ 10 to drink the smallest, most vile cocktail is not worth it.

Best happy hour in uptown! Half price sushi, and small plate appetizers, plus great discounted drinks. Two can get a full meal size of quality food, couple drinks and spend under 20 each! Must recommend! They have a unique twist on some items, but in a great way!

With some time to kill before going to see a movie at the Lagoon Theater, stopped in here one bitter cold night for a glass of wine. We were shown to a table at the very front corner of the place, next to windows. The music was kind of loud and not inviting for my ears to listen to it — I simply don’t care for the clubby, rap-style sound. For this reason alone I probably won’t be returning. I don’t remember the type of wine I ordered, but I enjoyed it well enough, as did my companion. I do, however, remember we received very good service from our server — he was expedient with everything, including our check when it was time for us to leave in time for our movie.

It’s Tuesday night, where will you find dinner & drinks? I suggest Social House for their date night specials. For $ 30, you get an appetizer, two entrees, and a bottle of wine. The wine selection is slim; you’re possibly looking at a Shiraz or Reisling. Our appetizer of the night was the Chilled Soba Noodle Salad. It was wonderful! Lime, basil, mint, and mango. Quite the combo. My entrée was beef and noodles in a broth. This was a bit of a miss with no ‘wow’ factor. My friend’s entrée was a huge salmon sushi roll topped with avocado, sriracha, and blueberries! It wasn’t on their menu, but if this sushi is any indication, the rest of the rolls must be spectacular. Must try the crème brûlée for dessert!

I came here for dinner twice and I really enjoyed their food. The service was fantastic! Great atmosphere and music. I love the idea of sitting next to a window and watching people outside. I would not recommend a place to have a group of friends to hang out. I need to try out their happy hour soon! Heard it’s good. Parking is free when you park on a street. Good luck finding one!
