Started with stale chips moved on to a greasy 3 cheese flatbread pizza. This was our second and final time visiting Rojo. Two happy hour drinks, happy hour pizza and we split an entrée and the bill was $ 40.

Why is the rice so sweet? Food is okay, needs some tweaking — seems like it’s all pre-frozen and not super fresh. I don’t think we’ll be coming back here again, unless for a margarita and chips /salsa(salsa is the only thing I had that was great!)

LOVELOVELOVE Rojo. I became a fan in the St Louis Park location and now that they are expanding, Rojo is always close. The Cadillac Margarita is awesome, but nothing beats their tacos, fresh guac, and the best rice ever.

Unlimited chips! Hallelujah! If you’re like me an cannot finish anything you order, I would recommend splitting the chimichanga or their tacos! The carne asada tacos or the pork tacos are the best choices by far. You do get 3 tacos but unfortunately you cannot try different types of tacos like barrio does. You get what you order and all 3 tacos will be THAT. It comes with some really sweet corn rice and re fried beans. Yum yum yum! Again, even a dish like this that sounds good for one person, can actually be way better splitting it with someone like your mother who has a tiny appetite! Try the margaritas while you’re at it! They do come in large glasses so expect to be tipsy after one drink. Don’t forget, the chips keep coming when you finish one basket. That’ll make you full as is! Fact about the service here: you don’t really get a unique, memorable experience with the waiters and waitresses. They are just there to serve your food and refill your water, but don’t put too much effort into making your experience«awesome» and I don’t expect them to when it’s just Rojo.

Went with two other people. I had been here previously and had a positive experience but some of the recent reviews made me a little nervous. We ate a little after 12 noon on a Thursday. It wasn’t too crowded. The waitress came by in good time for our drink, order then we ordered the Rojo guacamole for an appetizer. It came out with 5 minutes tops. Mango, cilantro, tomatoes, onions and lots of avocado! Be sure to order it when you go, it had just the right level of spice. I ordered the shrimp tacos and grilled corn on the side. The corn had the cheese and lime to give it the right amount of saltiness and sweetness. Others in my party wished they had ordered it. The tacos, 3 on flour tortillas were tasty with a chili sauce and came with beans and the sweet rice others have mentioned. The rice worked well with the tacos. One person had the half chicken torts and chopped salad with fries. She said the salad was flavorful but huge for a side salad. The other person had a large tomatillo salad and said it was really good too. It had like a green goddess dressing with it that I sampled. It was creamy and delicious. She ended up taking half of it home. The service was fast, friendly and we weren’t kept waiting for anything. Even the 2nd bowl of chips arrived right after the guacamole. The free chips and salsa are good too. The salsa tasted freshly made with a little kick, the lime juice really seemed to brighten the flavor too. I think I want to try the lobster tacos next time.

This place disappointed in all means except the ambience of this place… with a group of friends visited this place to celebrate an occasion and joy was overturned by the time we were out from this place, waiters were slow, food was slow, it didn’t taste as we expected, felt much more better places are around… when asked for water, it took 10 minutes to bring the water… will never go to this place…

Absolute worst service EVER! Went there with my boyfriend who had to return his meal 3 times after asking several times that NOCHEESE be in his meal(he is severely lactose intolerant). One of the times the female bartender actually laughed at him and said«You know you’re in MN right?» How incredibly rude to laugh and poke fun at him. We also both sat there for over 40 minutes with nothing to drink, and not once being asked if we wanted anything. I asked not once in the beginning for a water, but again when the food arrived. Never did see that water. They did comp my boyfriends meal(which they should have), but the longer we were there the more irritated we became that the THREE bartenders only seemed to help one side of the bar(Obviously the side we weren’t sitting at). Will NOT be going back to that place. Maybe hire some component people to run the bar.

Probably more like 3.5, but 4 is too high. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was good(although the tables seemed to be a weird height… all four of us noticed this right away… it seemed like there was no place to put our arms that wasn’t awkward). The food itself was OK. Chips and salsa came freely and promptly, and the salsa was tasty. We ordered the chicken and poblano cheese crisp(i.e. flatbread) as an appetizer, and that was good. Two of the four of us ordered carne asada tacos at the suggestion of the waitress. The waitress was very nice, but neither of them cared so much for the tacos. Neither of them cared for the rice at all. As others have mentioned, it was sweet and creamy, which with another meal would have perhaps tasted ok, but for this meal, it just didn’t seem to match. I had the machaca torta and roasted corn chowder. The soup was delicious. The torta? Average. I felt like I was eating a pot roast sandwich, and the slaw on it didn’t have any flavor. The person who had the chicken enchiladas thought they were pretty good. All in all, I’d try it again, but choose different items. It was a good and fairly quick lunch spot, though.

The manager lied to my face and tried to make me feel stupid. I ordered a chopped salad with carne asada and it came out with ground beef. Trying not to be a jerk, I said to the bartender, «I thought carne asada was steak, is this your carne asada? It looks like ground beef… it tastes fine, but I thought I was ordering steak.» He called over someone who looked like the manager and he said yeah, that’s carne asada. So I thought they just had bad carne asada, until someone next to me at the bar ordered carne asada tacos and it was clearly steak. Disappointing. The bartender could tell I was not happy and did remove the upcharge for the meat. Otherwise I would have given one star. I also posted a photo.

Lets start off with the service. The service there was great. We were helped immediately and got seated really quick on a weekend dinner. The food: I had shrimp tacos. It comes with three tacos, refried beans, and rice. Speaking of the rice, it wasn’t just ordinary rice. It had a great sweet taste to it. The refried beans were great and the main course of the three tacos were awesome. Everything was well cooked and presentation looked professional. The drinks were made very well! Had a Margarita on the rocks. It comes in a good size. The price of the food can range from $ 12 and up. Overall the service, the price, and food was great. I would honestly would attend this restaurant to different entrees.

Good food but I thought it was a bit pricey for what you get. The fish tacos were great but you get three small ones, so don’t expect to bring a lot of leftovers. The rice on the side was fantastic! Creamy(honey maybe?) with a ton of flavor. Can’t forget, thumbs up for the free chips and salsa! I also had a margarita which was tasty but like I said, nothing that wowed me too much for paying a little more than I would have thought. We had a big group and our waitress was very helpful and even generously split all of our checks. Others complained about the service in the reviews, but we didn’t have any issues. Especially for being in a mall, they were crowded for a Wednesday night, so that must be a good sign. Probably won’t be the first place I go back to in the near future, but if you’re in a big group, why not every once in awhile…

As soon as you are seated there’s someone giving you chips and salsa. The food was good, better than what we get in Canada. But this review is basically about the server. She short changed us by keeping my change. When i asked her about it she said, «oh you wanted your $ 0.50 back? Because we usually don’t give it back.» Sorry folks but I have never heard that from any restaurants I’ve been to. Have you? We will go back but make sure we don’t get her as a server.

I had to give this place a try. All my friends were talking about how delicious the food was. The food was alright. My favorite thing on the menu would have to be the Cotija Corn. Reminds me of the street vendors in California. So delicious. The food was pretty much tex mex. I ordered the chimichanga in green sauce. Our waiter Lucas recommended it. It came with a side of sweet rice and beans. The rice didn’t go well with the chimichanga. it was way too sweet and nothing mex about it. This place is like an expensive version of El Loro or El Toro. I would only come back for the corn.

Pretty average, but better than your typical mall associated restaurant. The carne asada tacos w/corn tortillas lacked any really interesting flavoring and tasted like something you could easily whip up at your place. The quesadillas(chicken and cheese) that were ordered went mostly untouched. They were served without having lettuce and guacamole. Sour cream seems to be the only ingredient they are willing to use for a splash of color or to add texture, it was served on all three dishes. The free chips and salsa were the best part of the meal, other than the cold beer(s) on a «hot» Minnesota night.

Came here with group of about 15 for a professional networking social and from the moment I placed the reservation to the actual dinner service the customer service was great. Our server Carlo was very attentive, friendly, and very patient with our endless list of random questions. My favorite thing to order here is the chicken chimichanga. I love the sauce on it as well as the refried beans however I am not a fan of the sweet rice that comes with it. This meal would be perfect with a traditional tomato based rice. For dessert I recommended trying the flan. It was very creamy with just the right amount of sweetness and it is very close to authentic Neapolitan Mexican flan. My visit was during the week and the environment was very relaxed, can’t speak to how busy it gets on weekend nights.

First time eating here my meal: green creamy chicken enchiladas with a side of their«spiciest» salsa was amazing! The sweet rice was delicious as well Fried Ice Cream? cant go wrong with this! waiter was funny and just all around great and the Food was exceptional! Will I return? Definitely! when i get another chance to travel here for work. Having lived in L.A. it reminded me very much of La Huasteca in Plaza Mexico and also Guelagetza in Downtown Los Angeles. very delicious restaurants!

I didn’t like this place. I went with two of my buddies for lunch on a Saturday. Bad: 1) It wasn’t busy, yet our service lacked severely. At times, I wondered if the guy was on random smoke breaks because it took so long. 2) Three people, one basket of chips and one small bowl of salsa… were they rationing salsa due to low supply? 3) Small portions for what you pay for. Value equation off. 4) Too commercialized, the food wasn’t even close to being authentic Mexican at all. Good: 1) Fish tacos were alright in taste. 2) Connected to the Southdale Mall and other restaurants nearby, so when I left still hungry, I had easy access to go to Bdubs next door for some wings to fill me up.

My first experience with Rojo was on Black Friday and it was a great spot to rest our weary feet. Service was great and efficient. Previous reviews have berated the service but maybe they are improving. My brother ordered the mac and cheese from the kids menu and I was expecting Kraft. No — it was really good. A cross between good mac and an Alfredo mac? It had a twist but was great. He dug his spoon in the bowl and didn’t come up for air until the bowl was licked clean. I ordered the fish tacos(red snapper) and they were very good. A nice slaw and a good sauce complimented the fish. Normally I have them go easy on this but am glad to have tried the original version. My tacos came with rice and it was GREAT!!! I asked and they make it with honey and spices. More please. Is this authentic regional Mexican food to stand up to the best of the Twin Cities? No, but it is great for Southdale and a pre or post movie respite. We will be back.

This is probably a 3.5 stars for me but I rounded down because they have limited desserts, only flan and fried ice cream, and I’m a dessert type of person. For Mexican food, it’s a great modern place to have it. The ambiance is great, it’s good for a date night with your spouse or a group outing. The bar is nice too and you can watch sports and have drinks with your buddies. Girls, don’t feel left out, their high tops are far enough from the bar so you don’t get bombarded by sports fans but close enough to get the bartender’s attention for another round of drinks. The good news is that it’s part of the Southdale mall — so you can have a snack(liquid or otherwise) while you wait for your shoppers. And if you really crave for dessert, the Cheesecake Factory is only a few steps away.

I’m surprised by the average reviews here; I’ve eaten here twice now and absolutely loved it. Both times I got the Carne Asada Tacos on flour soft tortillas, with chips and salsa, and I also had some of the red sangria. The carne asada steak was SOTENDER! I was so impressed how easy it was for me to bite through the steak. The chips and salsa is authentic: thin crispy corn chips with a well blended salsa, and I thought they were fantastic. The best part of Rojo is definitely the sweet sticky rice! It’s like a thick creamy sticky rice with corn and jalapenos that goes perfectly with the tacos and the refried beans that they serve as well. I wish others had similar experiences, but I will remain a loyal customer! love it
