Since I’ve written my original review with a 2 star, I’ve received messages from 3 people over the last several months, who I can only assume are employees based on their comments. The latest is from a Matthew S. claiming in the history of Roat Osha there has never been a host there before 5:30pm. I guess he must be living inside the restaurant since its been open to be an expert on this. He also claims HH is everywhere in the restaurant. This Matthew guy needs to be actually dining with you or else you’re a liar. The other two called me a b$tch, c$nt, a few other colorful words, and told me to go die for my comments on the service. Interestingly none of them commented on the lack of cleanliness in the restaurant that I pointed out. Maybe one of them was the culprit that took a shit all over the bathroom walls. None of these 3 trolls had any reviews written or friends on Unilocal, they’re not active. If these are indeed employees, I find this place even worse. No one gets better without feedback. If you’re that upset about a constructive review then do something productive about it. I’m going to give honest reviews based on my own experience, even if I receive threats from the emplpyees.

The food is always pretty good. It’s very expensive compared to other Thai places. The spice level is very inconsistent which is a bummer because I like my food very spicy. Ordered take out today and asked if they could rush my order because I was on my way to work. I was told no. They do tickets in order only. Really? That’s not good customer service. I’ve been loyal to you and recommended this place to others. After today I say No to giving you my money again. Accommodating your customers is key in this competitive environment. We don’t want to hear No.

I love the unique spices and the ethnic thai cuisine they offer. For my first time being there not bad at all. The curry was very delicious and fried rice with add on anything.

Went to roat osha for a Sunday lunch with some friends. My girlfriend ordered Meeh kah thee and specifically asked for no peanuts, as I am allergic and the courses are big enough to share. The black-haired waiter we had must have not been paying attention or forgot to write it down because after I had a couple of bites I realized that there were crushed peanuts in the soup. We tried to call the waiter over because we had to leave right away because of my allergy but he was nowhere to be found. About five minutes later we saw another waiter and called him over to tell him about the incident. He then told our waiter to come over and when he did he was completely clueless about what to do. We asked for the bill and he went and got it for us. That’s it, no apologies or anything. I would have talked to the manager if I wasn’t about to throw up. I hope this waiter is not a reflection of the whole staff at roat osha and that they are more careful from now on.

A food review of Roat Osha, by Rachel Abele On the evening of December second my boyfriend and I decided to try Roat Osha on a whim. I craved Thai food and needed to peruse the options before committing. My eye caught the sign for this delightful establishment as we cruised down Hennepin Ave. After a brief exchange he and I decided this would be a promising place to spend our evening! We parked, and even before we entered the restaurant could smell the aroma of spices as we turned around the corner(note: there is a parking lot conveniently located adjacent the building – no need to park far away, in the freezing cold, when your hair is wet, like we did). Our appetizer consisted of cream cheese wontons which I would describe as: hearty yet not excessive. The wonton skins were thicker than average and chewy(not crumbly or flaky) and the cream cheese quantity was well placed. The crowning jewel was the sweet and sour dipping sauce that introduced a gradient of flavor as it transitioned from sweet to savory to a spicy after taste. The contrast with the cream cheese made the sour undertones very subtle. This sauce impressed me so much that I ordered extra to pair with my main dish. My choice of dish was the traditional chicken Pad Thai, which initially appeared to be a bit soupy in consistency. Yet after a few bites I discovered that didn’t dilute the flavor at all! I was very pleased to see the fresh vegetables(as determined by the seasonal harvest of South America and/or California) be incorporated not only in my dish but also in my boyfriend’s Thai fried rice. The quality of chicken was satisfying as well. To our surprise we enjoyed for the first time ever – Thai fortune cookies! Fun variation of the Americanized Chinese fortune cookie, but they did not offer as clever fortunes. However they made up for it by being in the shape of a scroll. All in all I’d give Roat Oasha a 4⁄5 star rating because my favorite version of Pad Thai(my staple dish to judge a good Thai restaurant by) at Wok in the Park surpasses theirs.

Its a hit or miss each time coming to Roat Osha, but one thing that’s consistent is that its CRAZYBUSY on the weekends. When they say its a half hour wait time, its more like 45 mins to an hour. There’s not much room in the restaurant to wait in but a lot of people get drinks at the bar while they wait. Skip ordering the Thai tea here, it’s not great. Again, the waiters sometimes most always get our order right. Wait time on the food is decent. This spot is convenient and affordable so it’s definitely one of our Thai food to go places! Plus the food here makes great leftovers!

Delicious, fresh flavors. I ordered take out via the DoorDash app and it arrived hot and tasty. I’ve never dined in here but the takeout is always good. Tom Kha soup is so good. I generally like it spicy, and it was a little on the mild side. I’m sure that’s something I could request on my next order. Pad Thai was pretty good– The sauce was light and flavor-full.

Upscale Thai experiences when pulled off right are some of my favorite restaurants to consistently visit. Roat Osha tries to emulate that upscale feel, but ends up short. The place charges on the high end for Thai food, but doesn’t deliver the quality or service expected. We had ordered the Tom Yum soup and green curry with chicken. Both had some great flavors but our Tom Yum was half lemongrass and ginger chunks, which wasn’t edible; our green curry was supposed to come with eggplant, but our plate came sans eggplant. When we asked about it, instead of providing us with a new dish, they gave us a bowl or raw eggplant. Sorry but the eggplant is supposed to be sautéed into the curry so, you know, it’s not raw and tastes like nothing. It was disappointing given the ambience is chill and everything else seems so promising. Roat Osha is more like an appearance first, yuppie happy hour kind of place rather than focusing on quality food. There are plenty of other places that have similar offerings for lower prices(Tum Rup Thai down Lake Street) or you can head to eat street for quality and authenticity.

It pains me to change my 5-star status, but this very loyal customer has been pretty disappointed with Roat Osha on my last few trips. Why? 1. They have definitely raised their prices. You get giant portions of noodle dishes and fried rice dishes — and that makes the $ 16 price tag easier to swallow knowing there are lots of leftovers — but the curry portions are half the size of other restaurants. $ 16 for red curry? No thanks. I’ll go back to Karta, Thai, get twice the portion because it’s the best food for leftovers, and still have money to spare. 2.The spice level is insanely inconsistent. I love spicy food but I never know whether to order a 2, a 3, or a 4 because it depends on the cook. I got my curry at a 3 today and could barely eat it but have gotten sriracha fried rice at 4 and it’s more than palatable. Roat Osha, you have a very special place in my heart, but we are going to have to temporarily break while I seek out my other options.

Writing a review for Roat Osha is a bit of a challenge. It is a nice location, menu. The food is going to be a pretty good bet but not fabulous. The prices are on the high side. But there is convenient parking. The bottle of red wine was ½ off. Then again, service is spotty. Two entrees were delivered quite a bit ahead of the third. Not a crisis but enough to disrupt the evening’s flow. On the positive ledger, portions are large enough to share or for your lunch tomorrow. DIshes are flavorful, nothing super creative or experimental. Vegetables were fresh. So all in all, a pretty good experience. Our dishes were: Pad Thai very very good, Shrimp and scallops, good not great. Drunken noodles with scallops, soggy and broken. We thought the calamari appetizer was better than some reviewers suggested. So how to rate this mixed up experience? Better than a three, definitely not a four. I would go back but not right away. We had tried to go to Rainbow Chinese tonight but they’re now closed on Monday. If I found myself in a similar situation and wasn’t going to eat at Quang(one member of our group just had Vietnamese.), I would go to Roat Osha again. It was a fine experience.

I come here a lot and always order the same thing because it is so delicious! They have an amazing happy hour that includes their cranberry cream cheese wontons. These are amazing! My favorite and only dish I ever order is the Pad Prig Bai Horapa. I believe it means Basil Stir Fry in Thai. The lunch size portion is the same size as the dinner one but cheaper. I usually substitute the mushrooms for green peppers and onions but I’m sure it is delicious as is! I will do vegetarian or add chicken with the lowest spice level. It definitely is a little on the sweeter vs. spicy side. Lastly, they usually have Thai fortune cookies they bring out with the check. These are so great that I found them on Amazon and ordered more! My only reason for a 4 vs. 5 star is the service. They tend to be a little slow and not as attentive as could be. Not terrible but just average. The same owners also own Tum Rup Thai but I haven’t been to that location yet.

I have been waiting to go here for a long time because I can’t seem to find good Thai in Minneapolis. It’s not really four stars but more like a 3.5 Loved the fried and fresh spring rolls. The seabreeze salad was good but lack a little flavor. It needed a dressing of some sort. My favorite was the MEEKAHTEEH. We had a bunch of other dishes but none as good as that.

Love thai! Love this place! The dishes are spicy and the location is great! They have free parking, you can grab a quick seat at the bar without reservations and every time I have eaten here the food has been consistently delicious, service has been fab. I’m totally a creature of habit and I keep ordering the same thing. Hey, you like what you like right? I keep getting the Pad Pak Sri Kow. It’s interesting because there are jalapeños in it… I’ve never had Thai with jalapeños but it the perfect heat and it’s delicious! Tons of asparagus and it seems light. They don’t let your veggies float in oil and grease. The dishes seem very fresh and moderately healthy! Plus the décor is classy and doesn’t represent your divey Thai places. Not that I’m against that but it’s nice to have a little nicer atmosphere for dinner. Also the portions are huge so share or bring it home. It’s inexpensive too! Great place for a simple dinner w friends or date!

Roat Osha is a staple in our household rotation of restaurants. My husband and I have a very specific ritual we adhere to when we go to Roat Osha. 1. We sit at the bar(or in the bar area). 2. We order whatever the drink special is, since there are usually great deals on beer or bottles of wine for happy hour. It changes every day, but it’s pretty great, consistently. 3. We order fresh salad rolls and a large Wonton Noodle soup, at a spice level 3. Now this might sound SUPER boring, but this is one of my favorite comfort foods here in Minneapolis. The wonton noodle soup is DIVINE. Rich, filling and fresh all at once – it combines, noodles, pork wontons, fresh herbs and spice. We seriously don’t even order anything else. That’s our dinner for two and we always leave full and really happy.

I’ve been to Roat Osha three times now and loved every trip. Funny story… something about my appearance must lead people to assume I would not like or be able to handle spicy/hot food. The first time we went I ordered the Spicy Curry with White Ginger, which had, I believe, a level 3(out of 5) spiciness(is that a word?) rating and said it could not be ordered mild. The server looked at me and said, «Are you sure? It’s pretty hot.» I told him yep, I could handle it. When the food came out he checked on me at least three times, I think he thought my head might burst into flames. It was spicy, but deliciously so… I like my food hot and most restaurants in MN tend to go too easy on us. My boyfriend, who’d ordered something else, declared my entrée superior, so the next trip we got the same thing and shared. Server once again asked if we were SURE we wanted the spicy dish, ha! Last weekend after a few hours at the MIA we stopped in again. First time eating inside. Service was a tad slow but we were there in between lunch and dinner and I think there may have been only one server on the floor, so it was ok. We ordered the Sriracha Fried Rice with chicken and we both loved it. Spice level 3, I could have gone a little hotter but it had a good kick. Great flavor and combination of ingredients overall. I prefer Roat Osha to a few other Thai places I’ve been to, and I love the patio in the summer(bonus, you can walk to Lake of the Isles when you’re done eating to work off some of the rice, noodles and booze).

been here before, about one year ago. food was just meh, ordered yellow curry, chicken satay and some other dishes. everything was just mediocre. went here recently for a friends bday dinner and was disappointed with service. hosts completely ignored us standing right in front of their podium… also they claimed to not have our reservation of 18 people, that we had for a month and confirmed earlier that week. Instead of offering different seating options or any other options really, the male host just looked us and said, «nope. we don’t have it. we’re busy, bye» We won’t be back.

This is one of my favorite Thai places by far now! We dined here for dinner last night and got the shrimp and scallop entrée and the drunken noodles with beef along with the fresh spring roll appetizer. All three dishes were tasty and delicious. I loved them all! We got the level 4 spice level which was just right. The shrimp and scallop entrée was worth the splurge since the shrimp was large, the scallops were plentiful and the sauce and veggies were amazing. The beef in the drunken noodles was tender and had a great flavor. The service was decent but since it was a pretty busy Saturday night we only received our entrees but were missing our plates to eat off of for a little while. We only had to wait about 15 min. at around 6:50 without a reservation but the time flew by since we got drinks at the bar first! They also have a great happy hour and a nice outdoor patio. And free parking which you can’t beat in Uptown! This place will not disappoint your Thai food craving! I wish I lived closer!

Flog me good next time if I ever told you I wanted to try a trendy ethnic food. Is Thai food even ethic anymore? It seems to be so mainstream. I don’t know… my hair stylist happened to be in this area. I was hungry for Thai food and Roat Osha looked like a good place to go before my appointment. Blech. Coming in here nothing screamed Thailand. People on Unilocal tend to frown when someone writes that something isn’t authentic enough. I don’t really know what’s authentic Thai. Frankly, I don’t give a shit if it’s authentic or not. For all I know it could be but I hate it. Or it isn’t but delicious nonetheless. But if you want to call yourself Thai, try to be a little Thai. This place had loud trendy radio music, and just was a nice big restaurant. I guess it screamed more uptown. The host was too cool for school. He walked slowly with attitude towards me without acknowledging me, no smile or anything. Until he was about 4 steps from me I finally could confirm that he was indeed the hired help that was supposed to usher me to my table. He told me to pick my own table and he would follow me. Alrighty then. I picked a quiet corner since I was eating alone. The menu was big but nothing seemed familiar except pad thai, pad see ew, and pad woon sen. I wanted my pad gra pow. Nothing. How could a Thai restaurant didn’t have Basil chicken? Again, I’m not talking authentic but if you go to Burger King, you would find a burger on the menu or sweet and sour chicken at a Chinese place. Sweet and sour chicken I bet you wasn’t born in China but it is always on the menu. Just something expected and normal to have over here. They had something that I was hoping would be similar to Basil Chicken. I asked my server if they could do it with minced chicken and she said no. It would come with sliced chicken. It doesn’t taste or feel the same without minced chicken. So I had to look again for what to order. I ordered the pad woon sen or glass noodle stir fried, and I chose with beef. I also ordered fried spring roll. I wanted some Tom Yum but it only came in big size bowl. Fuck that. The spring rolls were fine. It tasted good enough. Maybe I was starving too. Whatever. Then, the glass noodle came and it was wet. I fuckin hate wet fried noodles. Would it kill you to let the noodles sit in the wok for a bit longer so they could soak up the sauce? There were more meats than the noodle. Sounded like it should have been good that way but no. There needed to be more noodles. Plus, the beef tasted really weird It tasted like wet teriyaki jerky. Jerky aren’t supposed to be wet so it was like when you went camping, a bear pissed on your beef jerky and that’s what they used in the noodles. Could it be possible? I dunno. It just wasn’t good. Well, okay. It’s edible. It looked great but it didn’t taste all that good. I barely ate it. The server asked if I wanted a box. I said yes. I thought maybe I could doctor it up at home since there was a lot left. She just gave me a couple boxes. I fuckin hate boxing my own leftover. I came to eat and not do her job. Then, I asked for more tea and she said certainly. She told someone else to give me tea. I waited, and waited, and waited… she finally came back with my check and she saw my tea cup was still empty. She went back and took her awhile to come back with the tea. Then, she refilled me. Five minutes later the dude she delegated the job of refilling my tea came back with the tea. I was like? You’re joking right??? Really? So, food was so so borderline atrocious. Service was snooty i dont give a shit about my customer slow. I had better service at Panda Express. Seriously, anyone wanting a good regular Thai food and decided to come here to get some deserves to be flogged with a bamboo cane and then stomped by an elephant wearing head jewelry. I felt that I should really be punished, like eating there and paying the check for that crap wasn’t punishment enough.

Have been to this place 5 times in last 3 weeks; not because they are that good but because i live in same block. Don’t you dare coming to my house though… lol Pros: Super fast service. My food was on table within 5 minutes of ordering Quantity is huge. Staff is courteous. Good location, right in uptown Lot of Vegan options Open late night for a restaurant Cons: Food is good in taste but not that yummy. I am down rating it to 3 as food quality is getting even worse. Yesterday went for Pad Thai. It was not tasty. They don’t put any sort of vegetables in it. they cut the noodles so i got a pad thai with really small noodles, which i don’t like.

SOGOOD. We were so hungry I forgot to take a picture so I am sorry. I got the Pad Pak Sri Kow with pork and he got the Teriyaki Grilled Beef Skewers and we split both. So freaking good. The sauce was really good on the stir fry. I got a 2 on the spicy scale at the recommendation of the server but I could’ve used a little more spicy. Still amazing. The skewers came with fried rice and a couple sauces. There was some kind of jalapeño sauce that I dipped everything in and it was totally amazing. I will be back asap.
