Really great shop when you don’t want to make a grocery store run. Sure, prices are a little higher than your standard grocery stores, but it’s to be expected for a convenience store. The owner, Asif, is a nice guy; both he and his employees are always friendly. Definitely the place to shop for your quick things on this end of the Loop.

I love this market. It recently reopened by new owners so all of the reviews below don’t apply. They have great prices and everything you need. I went looking for soy sauce the other night and they even had that. They carry fresh produce and Boar’s Head products. The staff is great! You have to go try a F-real shake!

This place far from rocks. The lights in the fridge/coolers are out. They RARELY have anything stocked, always empty boxes. What kind of convienece store runs out of Diet Coke?! Seriously.(At least he offered to break down a 12-pack to get me a can, which I declined). A few years ago this place used to be high quality. Now it is just another low-quaity convince store. I take 99% of my business to the Holiday– a much better run and better stocked business— with all the lights on and no empty boxes on the shelves…

Not the freshest operation on the planet. And I am referring to their veggies… VERY over-priced too.

This place ROCKS. I’ve found the most obscure items here! Example 1: On the morning of the Super Bowl, I realized I needed to make something for the SB party we were going to. I found a recipe online for slow-cooker meatballs & ran over to Metro Market. I figured I’d get a couple of things & go to Lund’s in NE for everything else. Surprise, surprise! Everything I needed was there! One trip & I’m done. Example 2: Had a late-night craving for guacamole. Did not want to drive to the grocery store. So, I went to Metro Market & got EVERYTHING I NEEDED! Seriously. They have fresh produce! Example 3: Wanted ice cream but did not feel like driving far to get it. Walked back to the freezer case & they had Izzy’s Ice Cream! Rather than drive to St. Paul I walked 3 blocks to get it. Score!

I go here for lunch occasionally. The salad bar is mediocre but who wants to eat that healthy stuff anyways. The real delishisness is in the hot bar: tuna noodle casserole, tater tot hotdish, cheesy enchilada… it changes daily. It’s mostly warm and filling comfort food. Perfect for a dreary monday lunch. It’s priced on weight, I usually spend about 5 bucks. They also have the usual convenience store food groups covered, like king sized snickers and beef jerky, all at convenient prices. They do have a few things you won’t find at an SA though, like Holy Land jalepeno hummus.

Metro Market is a godsend for the North Loop neighborhood. Every time I’m in there it’s better and better. The owners are helpful and really take customer suggestions and feedback seriously. They have fresh produce(as well as great meats, cheeses and fresh bread delivered daily), a salad bar, lunch take-out specials, beer, greeting cards, and all of the much needed necessities of an outstanding, clean, upscale convenience store. In terms of neighborhood convenience stores I am convinced that it doesn’t get much better than this.
