Liquor Barrel

The Liquor Barrel is pretty unassuming from the street — just tucked into a strip center on a busy corner in Golden Valley. But it has a surprisingly deep beer selection and is one of those places where you very well might find a gem if you look hard enough. There is a good healthy wine and liquor selection, if that’s what you’re after. They’ll have all the basics covered in those departments. As far as beer, they have your standard coolers along the back walls — everything from Coors and Natty Light on up. But be sure to take your time walking around and looking at the middle shelves (not cold) because often there are really good 750mL bottles there from some of the best breweries in the country. It’s especially a great place if you like sours.
Just had a friend tell me that they also will give a discount if you buy 3 or 6 bottles at a time. I have not yet tried this out, nor do I know whether this is a «secret» discount that you have to ask for. But for what it’s worth, maybe you can save a few bucks if you wind up buying a few things.

I feel a bit uneasy about being the duchess of a liquor store, but it is what it is! I do love a good cocktail at a good price. This store has the best deals around. They don’t have my favorite wine, but most of the time neither does the store that’s supposed to carry it. :(. They do have a great selection of beer! I like the «pick your own 6-​pack» option, always an awesome quick gift idea!
The attendants are always friendly and remember you… Hah. Maybe I am here too often!

This place has the best prices for Surly beer products in the area. Consistently they stock the latest Surly offering and charge a dollar or two less per four pack than the competition. The staff are very friendly, and the beer selection is fairly vast and reasonably priced. There are a number of other liquor stores in the vicinity, but I favor this one over those (MGM and Byerly’s).
On my latest trip in I bought a four pack of Surly Hell, and a four pack of Surly Furious. At the counter the staff gave me a free Surly sticker! How cool.
Considering the friendliness of the staff, the selection of beer, and the location… I’m a fan. The location… there is a Smashburger, Chipotle, Down in the Valley, and a Jimmy Johns nearby… all personal faves.
