I knew very quickly after moving here that I’d never have a Minnesota palate and that there’s a huge difference in what’s considered as «comfort food». I got my introduction to Kokapelli Deli when I first worked in Butler Square in the late 2000’s. Now that I’m back in the building, I’m happy to report that there have been no discernible changes in these important factors: Staff friendliness, speed of service, and serving comfort foods that satisfy even this east coaster. I normally get their beef chili, which is pretty darned tasty. If you get some onions and cheese added to it, it’s even more delectable. I get these additions because they’re my preference. I find that the chili might need only a few dashes of hot sauce for those of us who enjoy that. Today I got the grilled cheese and tomato soup special. Yes, we all know that these two foods go together. Well, I don’t know what Kokapelli does to their tomato soup because I burned my mouth from an inability to wait for it to cool enough for me to just drink it down. It’s the perfect foil for grilled cheese and stands on its own. It’s creamy, warm, and it makes me feel as though my cells are bonding with it in little hugs. While some places that have a captive audience seem to lack interest in giving folks a good meal, Kokapelli doesn’t suffer from this. It’s yet another reason I’m glad to be at Butler Square. Besides their lunch options, they’re also pretty good at breakfast. I got addicted to the breakfast sandwich a long time ago.

I work in the building so I’m here quite often, the service is always great and the food good. Always a homemade feel and taste. Nothing fancy but great comfort food.

It’s Wednesday so I tried the Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese special. The price at $ 6.50, not so special. The expectation of what mom used to make, Campbell’s soup with grilled cheese on white bread, on point.

It’s better than fast food and quicker than a sit down restaurant. Superb choices(including breakfast options) and an excellent ever changing lunch array. It’s rarely my first choice but it’s always a good one.

This is an excellent place to stop and eat at in the downtown area, located in the Butler Square building next to the Target Center. Customer service is awesome, the staff is friendly and will go above and beyond for their customers. The food is excellent as well. I enjoy Wednesdays special, tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Their chipotle, ham, and cheddar macaroni salad is to die for! I would recommend this deli to anyone who is tire of the same olé’ fast-food!
