J&D Dental

This is my regular dentist, which I chose on a recommendation — and because I do all my professional services downtown where I work if at all possible. Never had an insurance problem with these folks and have done regular check-​ups, fillings, gum work, etc. All female staff (or so it appears) if that matters to you. They have been understanding on reschedules and missed appointments. Definitely sticking with these folks.

J&D has very friendly dentists and hygienists, which is great if you haven’t been to the dentist in awhile. But while I know dental insurance is old hat for dental staff who see a lot of patients and a lot of insurance cards, the help I received from the front desk at J&D was actually not at all helpful and rude.
I called ahead to Delta to see how much of my fillings would be covered, and the insurance said it would be partially covered. When I confirmed my appointment, I doubled checked with J&D staff that part of the filling would be covered and was told the filled would be covered by insurance and that they had contacted Delta. After my fillings I double checked to see if I needed to pay anything and was sent on my way without making a payment or being told a bill was coming.
A month later the dental bill came for a few hundred dollars, which was the difference between what was covered and what was charged. The amount came as a surprise, since I was by then under the impression that the insurance would take care of the cost.
When I called J&D to follow-​up on the misunderstanding that I had or the miscommunication, the person I spoke with on the phone had little interest in speaking with me about it and talked to me like I was an idiot for not knowing how insurance works.
Instead of helping me figure out where the issue was, the person on the phone frankly said that insurance just covers a portion of the service, they’d have no way to see how much was covered, and that’s how it works.
I felt great while getting a cleaning and the fillings I needed. But after that call and the miscommunication about how the process works, I’ll be finding a new dental office.

I love my dentist! I bet you never heard that from anyone before. I go to J&D dental originally because it is right across the street from my office and they take Delta Dental. I have had nothing but a great experience with my dentist (Dr Herbert) and her partner.
One unique thing is the staff is entirely female. And as my coworker stated you want a female dentist cause her hands are smaller than a man’s.
The waiting room is clean and welcoming as are the examine rooms. And they even play good tunes.
I recommend them to my coworkers (many have gone and now like going to the dentist).
