I love this place. The sauces are out of this world. If a little dash of «freshly ground black pepper» satisfies you, DONOT go to this restaurant. I have taken a few friends here over last couple of years and I think people with love this place or they can’t stand the heat. The sauces are HOT but very flavourful hot. I have tasted lots different kinds of extremely hot foods. Some tasty and some just bland dry heat. But I have to give it a 5 stars.

One of my favorite restaurants in the twin cities. Harry Singh has been making this stuff for decades, and he’s great at it! For something milder, the fish curry is absolutely fantastic. The curry sauce is mild, the fish tastes fresh, and the crunch of the cabbage mixed in gives it a wonderful texture that just makes for an amazing meal. Try it in a roti if you’re not counting carbs. It’s no standard«flatbread». The dhalpuri roti is like a giant tortilla with a thin layer of spiced chickpeas sealed in the middle which not only flavors the roti, but also helps to make it soft as velvet. If you’re feeling up to it, the jerk chicken is delicious. The perfect blend of spices makes this chicken blow your taste buds away with every bite. Once you get past the spice, it’s a savory delight that is expertly prepared and well worth a try. For those who really love hot food, check out the hot sauce too. They make it themselves, and the label pretty much says it all: «Oh god, it’s hot!». Lime, a pinch of salt, and fresh peppers is pretty much it. Simple, well balanced, and absolutely delicious on the jerk chicken! The curry is mild and the jerk is blazing hot. If you want a culinary adventure, try harry singh’s caribbean!

The food is really good and the jerk chicken is amazingly spicy. This place is really a 5 star restaurant, the only reason I gave it a 4 is because the wait time is a bit protracted.

Such a disappointment. I saw him warming food up in the microwave. Charged me a dollar extra for a HALF container of hot sauce. Prices DONOTMATCH the menu. I recommend Marlas café instead. No stars

I ate at Harry Singh’s a few times in 2015 and absolutely loved the food. I ate in as well as ordered carry-outs and told several associates about this place. I ordered food for the first time this year(2016) about a month ago, a carry-out and when I got home and opened it up, the food was absolutely horrible. The Jerk Chicken was over cooked and the rice and veggies were mushed up like Porridge.(I heard the microwave, which should have been an indicator to me to perhaps just change my mind) It was close to 3;00 p.m. which is the end of the lunch hour. and more then likely all of the left overs were thrown together and reheated. I dare tasted the food and it wasn’t spicy, just mushy. I tossed it out but thought about it and called the owner. Much to my surprise he stated he had never had a complaint before and I told him normally I wouldn’t have a complaint but this round I was terribly disappointed and wanted him to know it. Finally after awhile he said«remind him the next time I come and and he would make it up to me.» The more I thought about it the more I simply wanted my refund of $ 17.00 and I wrote him a letter. He never responded. As much as I had wanted to frequent his eatery and take guests to dine here, this bad experience placed a negative in my mind. He, the owner always seemed like such a nice person but I guess when it comes to satisfying an unsatisfied customer, well… those are the brakes for him and I. I am glad their are other Caribbean Restaurants in town.

I love Harry, and I love his restaurant. He’s an institution. About once every six weeks I find myself in my car unconsciously driving about 15 to 20 minutes from my house to order the jerk chicken roti to-go. It’s enough for two meals and the little plastic«thimble» container of hot sauce he gives you looks skimpy at first glance. However, it is plenty because it is wicked hot. By far the hottest of all hot sauces in the metro area. It will make you sweat and you will need to blow your nose. Bön appétit!

This place is nothing short of fantastic! Harry, the owner, is an absolute gem. He will be your server and talk you through the menu with enthusiasm if you have questions. I ordered the jerk chicken roti and it was delicious — true authentic taste! It was spicy though; even for a spice lover! Harry even brought me some white rice to help ease the spice! It was one of the best dishes I’ve had. Make sure to order mild though — at least for your first time! We also had the fried plantains which were to die for. Prices are very reasonable and this is a special place. True definition of a unique hole in the wall. Don’t let the appearance make you think it’s anything but a very worthwhile stop! We will be back! Thanks Harry!

WARNING! Order mild the first time you come. I don’t care how tough you think you are. And for those complaining about the spiciness of the jerk chicken, it says right on the menu to order something mild on your first visit and that the jerk chicken can’t be ordered mild because of the recipe. The warning is there. Just sayin’. Anyhow, there have only been two dishes in my life that were far too spicy for me that I couldn’t stop eating. I had a lamb vindaloo curry in Falmouth, England that kicked my butt, and the jerk chicken rhoti at Harry Singh’s. Both were so delicious that I couldn’t force myself to stop eating, even through the intense heat of the peppers. The chicken here is cooked to a tender perfection that I have never seen before, and the blend of spices and vegetables lends an incredibly unique but very delicious flavor. Harry himself usually acts as waiter, and is an extraordinarily friendly man. If you are in the mood for an interesting conversation and business is a little slow, strike one up. I have tried a number of his dishes and haven’t even come close to being disappointed, but I keep going back to the jerk chicken even though I know it will destroy me. Maybe I’ll build a tolerance if I keep ordering it as often as I do. This is a great place for people with an adventurous palette. I have never been to the Caribbean, so I can’t comment on the authenticity of his dishes, but I can say that there are many dishes here that differ greatly from anything I’ve ever eaten before. I highly recommend trying a few of the unfamiliar beverages available.

We had a great meal at Harry’s, the food was full of flavor and authentic. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu. I would absolutely recommend stopping in for a meal.

Had the jerk chicken. Outstanding. Very spicy, but very flavorful. It’s not as sweet as most jerk flavoring in the US. It’s truly authentic. I tried both the mild and hot sauces. The mild was so hot it gave me tunnel vision after a few minutes where I really loaded it up(the menu forewarns you that you should start with the least amount of spice possible and go from there). If you like spicy food, you don’t need to up the ante by adding the mild sauce. However, it you do, the hot sauce(made with scorpion peppers) is both flavorful, and not for the faint of heart. I’m going to be going back here again and again!

Ok, I like the food. It’s good, but it’s hella hot. By hot, I mean burn-the-back-of-your-throat sizzlin’. I ordered the Carribean jerk chicken roti. It was my first roti and wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve had jerk chicken before in Jamaica and it wasn’t nearly as hot as what I suffered through last Sunday with my roti. I could only eat a few bites of this roti. It’s thinner than naan and it’s more like a corn tortilla but with pita tendencies…(it’s good, but it gets soggy from the insides). The inside was filled with jerk chicken drenched in spicy sauce and random vegetables – looked like cauliflower and carrots). The spice was just a little overwhelming and a little hard to kick. Half of the table ordered this and it was a mutual agreement that it was too spicy. Some friends had the curried rice and that looked manageable. They said the spice wasn’t nearly that bad. Smart people. We also shared some appetizers which were ok… but don’t dip anything in the«hot sauce» on the table. It really is hot as hell. No joke. I can imagine this sauce in chili but hiding but not as a dipping sauce… ever. It’s quite a small restaurant, so don’t expect an overly sexy dining restaurant. It is a hidden gem on Eat Street. I just know not to ever order the jerk chicken unless I want a fire roaring in my throat and my intestines to go to war.

This is probably one of may favorite restaurants and I live so close yet don’t come here enough! Harry Singhs is a little hole in the wall restaurant with lots of spice and flavor. We always get the jerk chicken and have never been disappointed. The food is spicy so be prepared, the jerk chicken especially. The portions are very generous so great for leftovers. I would highly recommend this place is especially good on a cold winter night!

If you want legit Caribbean/Trini food please come here. The food is great and it feels very homey! Every time I’ve gone Harry(the owner) is the one to come out and serve us. He is incredibly nice and sweet and is always able to give great recommendations for what to order when you tell him about your food preferences. As with all Caribbean restaurants watch the spice when you order. Personally, I usually like between medium and mild because these way I am able to truly appreciate the spices and taste of the food. I’ve had a few different things here but by far my faves are the patties and the curry chicken roti. They are delicious! Just writing this review is making me want to go to Harry’s for lunch. Tips: Parking is fairly easy to find on the street. Closed on Mondays

Went here for lunch just recently, and I would say was just OK. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but service was definitely slow. I have only one hour for lunch, and I would never come here if I was pressed for time. Ordered the jerk chicken with rice. I was not prepared for how spicy it was, I was literally lightheaded after the meal. The chicken itself, if you take out the spiciness factor of it, tasted great and was seasoned well, which what prompted me to masochistically finish my plate. I would likely come back and order something less spicy in the future.

I wasn’t expecting much when I walked into this hole in the wall. There was no one in the restaurant besides a guy pacing up and down an aisle talking loudly on his phone in a thick Caribbean accent. A friend and I sat down in one of the booths and out from the kitchen comes Harry Singh to drop the menus off at our table. We decided to get the chicken wings, fried plantains, and jerk chicken roti. Wow were we impressed with the food! Jerk Chicken Roti — This dish is awesome! I can tell you from growing up with Indian food my whole life that this definitely has authentic Indian flavors(not so sure about Caribbean but it’s a bit more savory and sweet than traditional Indian). It has the hearty meat and bread feel us Minnesotans love with spicy and savory flavors from his Indian-Caribbean background. Like authentic Indian though, it definitely is spicy so watch out for that! Fried Plantains — Lightly fried to make the plantains nice and soft. Very good. Chicken Wings — Whole wings in Harry’s Caribbean hot sauce. Texture of the chicken was perfect — crispy skin with warm meaty inside. The sauce is delicious. It’s spicy, sweet, and savory but doesn’t overpower the chicken. The food here is bomb and I’ll definitely be coming back again!

Not entirely authentic but it is a good mock up. Harry is a nice guy. Service is sometimes slow but you wait for quality food. If you don’t like heat make sure you let them know! Was disappointed in the beef patties though. I know back home I would get a pattie that didn’t have beef paste in it and it would be packed with beef. Here there is barely any beef and the pastry isn’t flaky and light. Overall good place for«pretend» Caribbean food but it’s hard to get that back home flavor to the states, although my mom does it just fine :).

After mistakenly making dinner plans for a Monday(it’s closed then – they need to update their website), we finally made it to Harry Singh’s. I saw the restaurant on local TV and wanted to check out the Caribbean chow mein. It was a delightful experience. I was reminded of those old-time diners where half of the fun of going is to interact with the owner and take the quirky atmosphere in. Not many places like that anymore. The food was hearty, flavorful, and tasted like home, even though I’ve never been to Trinidad and Tobago. The meat was tender with a warm, mild spice, and the fresh vegetables offered a nice counterpart. I was relieved to see that there were no crunchy canned noodles. It was like a fried rice, except the vegetables were a fresh garnish and it wasn’t dry. I loved the homemade ginger beer. It had a soothing flavor, and just the right amount of sweetness. I also tried my friends’ callaloo and vegetable roti. The callaloo was great, and the roti packed a powerful punch. It’s unusual for me to envision myself returning multiple times to try all of the different dishes and drinks while I’m still in the restaurant, but Harry’s had that effect on me. Mr. Singh is very charming, and as others wrote he came out personally to seat us. He’s soft-spoken, so it was a bit hard to hear him over the bright Caribbean music. I asked him about his days at UST(’77), and he has fond memories of his days in the social work program. He gave us some menus to take home. The menu itself is a work of art in terms of font, layout, descriptions, and stories. I’m tempted to hang it up.

Kind of hole in the wall place. I was confused if it was open because when I got there no one was inside! But the owner came and served us. He was very nice. The place has a lot of interesting décor but can be overwhelming. He gave us a whole pitcher of water at first which proved to be useful later… I got the jerk chicken roti which was just enough spice for me. I love spicy food but their food is VERY spicy(not the minnesota spicy). That being said, the seasoning is bomb. My chicken was tender and the sauce, slopped up by the roti, was delicious. The other dish goat curry roti was also very good but lot spicier than mine! We could not finish both and end up taking the leftovers home for dinner. Overall good experience. Place to go with very small group. It was a bit pricier than I would have expected based on how busy the place was, the ambience and the food, but there are not many opportunities to have Caribbean food(especially in MN!) I also liked the attentiveness of the owner, who was very engaged. I just wish they had more options because most of the available dishes seem similar(especially without description).
