I love this place! The staff is always friendly and helpful. «Happy hour» the hour before closing at 6pm is the best. The apple turnover I had last week was delicious, and I love how the people working are always joking around and seem to be having a good time.

For some reason, it’s hard to find a good bakery that sells a basic carrot cake, which is what my fiancé wanted for his birthday. I was glad to find this place and their specialty carrot cake is amazing! Nice and moist with a great cream cheese frosting. My only wish is that they had more variety with their specialty cakes(like red velvet, maybe), because I think they would kill it!

Stopped by for a quick lunch since I kept hearing great things. I have gone back a few times already. It is likely more of a 3.5 star place but you can’t give Unilocal half stars. Staff is friendly and the turkey panini sandwich is very tasty. They make a nice box lunch deal with chips, drink, cookie to go with the sandwich which isn’t bad but if you wanted the sandwich alone I think the $ 8 – 9 price is a bit much. The combo at $ 11 – 12 is not terrible. But the sandwich is always made well and I’m not disappointed. They have a delicious bakery case with one of my favorite scones that reminds me of childhood, raspberry white chocolate they make it fluffy and delicious, not dry.

We are a cupcake family. Like a serious cupcake family… the kind who researches them like you would a tourist destination(because the good ones ARE!). Georgetown Cupcake? Sprinkles? Nadia’s? Been there, done that. So imagine my joy to learn about FSB’s blueberry lemonade cupcake. The whole month of March featured them with a promise that the proceeds of their sale would benefit the MN Food share. A win/win, right? Well it turned out to be a win/WIN since these tasty treats defy all expectations of marginality. In fact, we now have a new favorite Twin City flavor. Seriously, they are out of this world and if you don’t try one it will be your LOSS. I wish I could rave about the other flavors too, but they didn’t quite hit the target for me… especially the chile chocolate that doesn’t taste a bit, not even a smudge spicy, sigh. The red velvet one is adorned with a Swedish fish, yep you read that correctly. However, when prices drop to buy one get one free at noon on Saturdays, you can afford to overlook little things like that!

I ordered an assortment of mini cupcakes and cookies and had them delivered to my daughter who is a student at Augsburg College — for her birthday. She loved all the treats! The woman who helped me on the phone was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this bakery!

This is a short walk from Sam’s place, so we’ll usually stop over for a coffee and pastry in the mornings. This is also one of the few places in walking distance in Venture Village. They have a wide selection of coffee drinks but I usually get a regular coffee or tea since that would take up a lot of time to make and they’re more of a complement to the baked goods. I love their savory croissants since I’m not much for sweet things in the morning. Ham and cheese or turkey with a cream cheese pesto, both are tasty and keep me going until lunch. You can get a punch card and get a free coffee for every ten you buy, which is great for regulars like us. My boyfriend is a fan of their cinnamon rolls. They’re less dense and more croissant-like. They’re pretty great when warm. Also I like those fruit crumble bar things. I’ve not tried the cupcakes. Sandwiches are pretty decent, and they have a deal on Wednesdays — you’ll have to check since it’s been a couple months since I’ve taken advantage — where you get free chips and a drink. Overall, a great spot in Ventura Village for a quick pastry.

So good. I had a hard time deciding what cupcake to get and I should have gotten two because now I’m going to need to go back for another, it was that good. They had an almond Joy one and a chocolate ganache one and I should have gotten more than one. I went with ancho chocolate. It was good but I expected a little more spice. Still the frosting was amazing and the cupcake was so beautiful. I’ll be back ASAP. Oh and the guy told me Saturdays after noon the cupcakes are bogo! Perfect for me when I’m indecisive like this!

I love this place. It is clean and delicious. Their cupcakes, cakes, and pastries are great. Their sandwiches are okay, I’ve had much much better. The Jersey is good. Normally the customer service is great. Today I went and the young woman at the front who took my order was absolutely rude. She was short and impatient and I felt like I was an inconvenience to her. Avoid the chick with the thick black rimmed glasses. She was even rude to her fellow co-workers.

I was really looking forward to this place being amazing when I read about it. As you approach, the smell of the bread is pumped out into the street. It is very inviting. We stopped in for sandwiches and snacks. I tried the Jersey Sub and the Grilled Ham & Cheese sandwiches. The grilled sandwich was skimpy on the meat(about 2 oz. worth) and a little soggy. It could have used a few more minutes on the grill. They don’t hand slice their breads, so the panini press really pancakes it down to nothing. Plus it was $ 7.50 for the sandwich. I tried their version of the cronut, the turtle metropolitan(?). It was a little stale and tough. Flavor was ok. Not a great success. I next tried their Raspberry White Chocolate Scone. It was better, but could have used a lot more raspberries or perhaps a different technique altogether. It was moist with a nice sugary crust. But its the sugary crust that you taste and that’s about it. The last thing we tried was the Iced Gingersnap cookie. It was $ 1, so not a bad value. It was heavy on the molasses and powdered ginger to the point of being hot or spicy. I would have like a more well rounded ginger flavor. The cookie was at least moist. I didn’t get the chance to purchase any cupcakes to try since the decorator rather rudely asked that I not photograph my food. I guess that’s why this place seems to lack much in the way of an online presence. So, Maybe this is place is for you. But it certainly wasn’t up to my standards. It seems like a slightly upscale grocery store. Its not an artisan bakery. Basically a factory.

This review only speaks about their amazing cake. SOAMAZING. For my boyfriend’s bday, we planned to come from Chicago up to Mpls to celebrate. I wanted to make sure we had an awesome cake for his day, so after a little searching, I settled with Franklin Street Bakery. The custom ordering process was super easy — I called first, and the woman talked me through a few things and said to email Lynne what I was looking for. I emailed her a few pictures(both of the album cover I wanted the cake to resemble, as well as another similar cake I had seen) and crossed my fingers. Can’t really have a plan B when you’re coming in from out of town on the day you need the cake :) I went in to pick it up(great looking place and lots of tasty goodies to be had) and I was so extremely pleased with the product. It looked amazing(even better than the pictures I had sent over!) and tasted amazing too! I also appreciated that they gave specific serving instructions based on what type of filling/frosting you had on your cake(we had buttercream and were instructed to let the cake sit out for a bit to get the best texture and taste). The cake was also so beautiful we may not have eaten a piece on the first day we had it :) I would definitely recommend Franklin Street Bakery for your custom cake needs!

First thing in the morning: Great! Anytime in the afternoon: Ugh… I’m in here almost every morning to grab a cup of coffee and, about half the time, some kind of pastry. At least once a week I grab a loaf of their amazing cranberry wild rice bread as well. The staff in the morning are nice, polite and engaging. But every time I pop in during the afternoon, I encounter these unenthusiastic zombies who seem like they couldn’t care less about… literally anything. I almost wish I’d never gone in during the afternoon. That way, this would be a short, sweet, 5 star review. Today, the afternoon zombie seemed confused that I wanted hot coffee. He kept pushing the issue, finally asking: «Do you want me to pour some cold water in it, then? I mean, it comes out pretty fucking hot.» At this point, I’m not sure if I should feel insulted or sympathetic. Hasn’t anyone ordered a hot cup of coffee from this guy before? Maybe he has some weird short term memory disease where he doesn’t recall how coffee is sometimes hot. And people like it like that. To top it off, he was nice enough to make a smart alec remark about my 5 year old daughter as I signed the credit slip. Really, really classy. So here’s my advice: Go in the morning. That way, you’ll actually want to come back.

We ordered custom photo cookies for my grandmas 70th birthday. I was concerned about the photo quality since it was an old picture but they turned out great and a reasonable price! Normally photo cookies aren’t the best tasting either but these were delicious and a huge hit at the party ! Lynn was great too, awesome customer service and very helpful.

There are lots of bakeries in town, but this one is my favorite. I wish I lived closer. Everything I’ve had is good, but by far my favorite is the chocolate cupcake with the mousse in the middle and the chocolate shavings on top. YUM! It’s decadent without being TOO decadent. It’s also a great place to grab a box lunch sandwich. Definitely recommend.

Deals: Monday: Free coffee with purchase of breakfast item. Tuesday: Butter Croissants are .99 cents. Thursday: .99 cents on select breads. One of my favorite local bakeries in the city. Besides their savory morning pastries, they have«Box lunches» for $ 9. It includes your choice of sandwich or salad, potato chips, a soda or a bottle of water and a cookie. Sandwiches are served on bread of the day. You can ask what your choices are. My favorite is the ‘Jersey Hoagie’(Ham, salami, provolone, tomato, onion with red wine vinaigrette). Have a special event? They cater too. Although I have yet to use their dessert trays, I am sure I will try it at some point, perhaps for a Super Bowl party when the Seahawks lose.

We moved in two months ago and since have been here at-least a couple times a week. Why go to the store and buy crappy bread when you can come here get fresh bread for the same or half the price. The bread here is so good it’s driving worthy bread. Sometimes I come here and am lucky enough to get a loaf of bread or baguette for $ 2. OH! and the Muffins! The Muffins here are to die for. We each had a carrot cake muffin with cream cheese filling yesterday and it was literally heaven in my mouth. Only wish I have in the world is that they were open on Sunday!

I recently rediscovered this bakery after driving by it numerous times along France Avenue. It’s just off the main drag so it’s easy to miss if you arent specifically looking for it. But, Im glad I made the stop because they really do have a tremendous business. One thing I like about this place is the interior. It has good colors and gets a lot of sunlight through the front windows. The space is open and the ceilings are high. Plus, all the baked goods are displayed well which is a huge plus. The variety of baked goods, particulary the cupcakes, was impressive. It isnt at the level of Cupcake, but who else is right? The quality was extremely high though in my opinion and they had some creative things like the mini-cupcake pop which had three mini-cupcakes on a stick dipped in chocolate. If I had to rate local bakeries/pastry shops, I would have Franklin Street Bakery just behind Patisserie 46 and Patrick’s. I don’t think you can go wrong stopping here for a snack. Pros: Excellent pastries, creative items, nice interior and dining space Cons: Location is a bit hard to see unless you are looking for it, not super expensive but not cheap either

Cute little bakery. Nice parking lot in the back or if you are lucky, there is street parking across Franklin. This bakery was way smaller than I had anticipated but its stock full of yumminess. We tried the Chocolate Ganache and Peanut Butter Ganache cupcakes. I loved the Peanut Butter one and really wished I had not agreed to split it. I wanted to eat the whole thing myself. I was really upset when I tasted my half of the chocolate ganache cupcake which is what I traded for my other half of the peanut butter one. Hands down, the peanut butter one was far superior to the chocolate one. From reading other reviews, I am in the minority as to my opinion on the chocolate ganache but even my daughter that loves loves chocolate agreed the PB one was far superior. Try one yourself. I also bought a few Halloween sugar cookies and they were nothing special. I would like to try the Ham and Swiss Croissant next time. I will be back but will not be purchasing another 4 dollar chocolate cupcake.

After reading some of my fellow Unilocalers reviews on this place, I had to check it out for myself. And let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. I had gotten myself a delicious assortment of pasta salads from Seward Co-op and now needed a little dessert. The overall bakery is quite small, yet don’t let that fool you, as there are an assortment of wonderful options! It was hard to choose between a cupcake, cookie, or that rhubarb crisp I spotted. But after speaking to the very knowledge associate, I had my mind made up. And the associate swayed me from choosing the carrot cake & vanilla bean cupcakes, to the chocolate ganache & strawberry cupcake(with edible flower!). Both cupcakes were delicious & afforable, but that chocolate ganache cupcake was OUTOFTHISWORLD. I would go back in a heart beat to eat that glorious thing again. Also, as other mentioned, there is a customer parking lot behind the building! And don’t miss out on cupcake happy hour 5 – 6 pm, Mondays through Fridays. I will definitely be back during HH to get a few more chocolate ganache cupcakes. please do the same.
