The best of the best. I’ve always had great service and the quality of products are second to none in the cities. Go here for just about everything meat. This and Coastal are Twin City gems.

Picking up our Sandwiches on the way to Lake Harriet, Windy but warm fall day. We had the roast beef sandwiches with a cup of Seafood Soup. Perfection. The clams, the horseradish, the beef.. . yum. The deli personnel were very congenial and even allowed for a picture. I would recommend this hidden gem any day!

Popped in with just minutes in between commitments in my life. They helped me right away and sent me out the door with an amazing sandwich. Looking forward to going back for more.

Fabulous butcher, including meat, fish, stock, and some smoked and prepared foods. Their butcher case is like *art*. They will also make you the best roast-beef sandwiches. Yes, they also have ham, and other sandwiches as well, but I cross town for the roast-beef. This is not the cheapest butcher in the twin cities, but the meats are well-sourced and you’re paying for quality.

The roast beef sandwich is great here! I don’t get the mustard or horseradish on mine. This is one of the better roast beef sandwiches in town for being cold. There’s no place to sit down and eat here, but the lakes are right by so perfect for sitting by the lake.

Yes to every Clancey’s sandwich. They had a banh mi special one time and I wept. Try the roast beef or pastrami with coleslaw if its around. Don’t come there late bc they«run out of bread» bc artificial scarcity. Lol

Still thinking about that sandwich and it’s been over a month! No sandwich will compare. It may take a while for you to get your food(we waited about 15 minutes), but it was worth it! The staff were friendly, made sure our orders were right, and packed our food & drinks like a picnic so we could enjoy on the curb. Yeah… we couldn’t wait to dig in! These sandwiches are big, full of flavor, and specially made. You can’t go wrong with the roast beef with all the fixings. The horseradish will clear your sinuses, in the best possible way.

Perhaps the tastiest cold roast beef sandwich in Minnesota. The beef is tender, juicy and full of flavor. The rustic bread they use for the sandwiches are crispy outside and fluffy inside. Simple, tasty and extremely satisfying! Come here and grab yourself a sandwich or two. You won’t be disappointed!

Seriously? What’s with the running out of bread for sandwiches? This has happened to me the last two times I’ve gone there. Super-frustrating. Clancey’s, I love you, but get it together.

My brother raved about Clancey’s since he moved to Minnesota. He would always claim that its not just any old sandwich shop… due to many reason, one of them being the way they lovingly make each creation. I couldn’t agree more. You know when you enter into the corporate Subway and they roll their eyes when you ask for extra oregano or look at you like you’re crazy when you ask for a few extra veggies than the regular tomato and lettuce? Or you just feel the burning eyeballs from the people behind you when you’re ordering, causing you to break a bit of a sweat? Well Clancey’s is different. They really do care about your sandwich and you enjoying it to the max. They take their time in making it and you don’t have people breathing down your neck like in a Subway line. Their sandwiches are notoriously messy. The bread is a bit crunchy, so you have to fight to get all the flavors in your mouth. But honestly, would you have it any other way? Their roast beef with everything on it is the way to go. Horseradish in every bite makes a spicy experience truly enjoyable. Potato salad is a treat too. :)

I am reviewing the butcher shop not the sandwiches which I have not tried. As other reviewers have noted service is completely chaotic. There are a number of staff but they seem completely uncoordinated and service is slow. I expected a larger selection of special cuts but the choices are not much different from Lunds & Byerlys where I usually shop. Parking is a challenge. Unlike Coastal Seafood which is worth a special trip because of the quality and service, I can’t see any real reason to undergo the hassles of shopping at Clancy’s.

The roast turkey sandwich I had was quite good. Nine dollars good? Might be a stretch. But really, there are plenty of Unilocalers who speak at great lengths about the food. Heed their advice. But this place deserves an «Eek! Methinks not.» if you’re there on the weekends, unless they make improvements that result in a more orderly process for customers. It’d be one thing to wait 22 minutes for a sandwich if the process was clear and well-managed. Clancey’s customer experience is anything but. As it were, one gentleman started to take my order, then decided that writing down what I did and did not want on it was going to be too much trouble, so he turned me over to the people prepping sandwiches. Now, Clancey’s is not Which Wich. There aren’t 700 different combinations. There are about half a dozen meats and ten toppings. If taking orders is too much grief, print the items on order slips and have customers fill them out themselves. Save your staff the time of having to humor our indecision and let us fill out the slip on our own. But in the subsequent ten minutes he proceeded to take three additional orders and pass those along, all while I waited for anyone to acknowledge my presence. So maybe they weren’t too busy. Now, because Clancey’s does not believe in lines or, like many delis, the take-a-number system, its employees spend a lot of time asking people if they’ve been helped. I was, in fact, asked this question no fewer than four times *after* I ordered — an order that was only taken because I had to assert myself and point out that the people who were supposed to do so had not actually done so. You know what keeps customers from falling through the cracks on busy days? Lines. Numbers. Order sheets. Basic, basic stuff. So yeah, feel free to go at a time when they’re not busy. But stay away if they are. They might put a lot of thought into the quality of the food, but the rest of the customer experience is badly lacking. I know it’s somewhat of a neighborhood jewel and so its loyalists are inclined to defend it at all costs, even to the point where they willfully deny the truth. But the service, friendly as it is, is terribly structured and dreadfully inefficient.

I’ve been to Clancey’s twice now. Once I called ahead to pick up lamb for a crock pot recipe, RIP Lamb Chops, it was a simple process and the same price as Whole Foods and Kowalski’s. The second time was after a walk around Lake Calhoun. My friend Beth suggested rounding out the healthy stroll with sandwiches from Clancey’s. We walked in around 2:30 pm on a Sunday and the place was packed as the shop only has room to walk through between the counter and freezers on the wall. We weren’t the only ones on the late lunch train that day. I had the smoked ham sandwich. My party of four waited while our sandwiches were assembled behind the counter. The bread was crunchier than I would like, it’s good but it’s comparable to eating a cliff bar where it’s practically a jaw exercise chewing. It’s soft on the inside but a beast to bite through. Where’s the Vietnamese french bread when you need it? The meat and greens were superb though! Ordering was a little strange, one after the other my party had to repeatedly ask the person behind the counter what the topping options were as there was a good assortment but it’s not listed anywhere in the store. There would be a benefit to having them listed or a sheet for customers to fill out, I’m not trying to make it a Jimmy Johns but this would be a much more efficient and logical process. Clancey’s is now a mandatory stop if I’m walking nearby, worth the wait.

This hidden gem is the best! I don’t even like roast beef sandwhiches. Somehow I stumbled upon some reviews and we decided to come try there famous sandwich! The first time we had everything it comes with now I am not a fan of horseradish so I asked for none and the mustard does come with a little bit of horseradish in it! It was still delicious just I myself prefer no mustard it is still too strong for me!!! This sandwich will make me keep on coming back every time we are in the neighborhood! The people that work there are all awesome! Love coming here!

.sandwich.ever. I’ve gone back now twice within a week! Highly recommend trying the corned beef and roast beef sandwiches. Also recommend their pâté, smoked trout, and truly thick cut bacon. This place is the reason why I could never be a vegetarian.

Came to get a couple of roast beef sandwiches, with everything on it! We crave it often but can only make it here every now and then. It’s that good! Love that they use Rustica’s banquette, the best banquette in town. The meat case was just amazing! It’s a meat lover’s heaven. Now I feel lucky that I don’t live near by, otherwise I’d be here everyday. The deli case also was amazing w all kinds of pickled stuff. People there are friendly and helpful. They must have tons of regulars as they seems to know everyone walking in the door! Love it.

Do you care about what you put into your body? I thought so. So why are you getting your meat from a store that deals in volume and has almost no chance of being able to tell you where the meat your are buying was raised? Sure you can get a TON of meat for cheap, but how much antibiotics were pumped into the animal to bulk it up to be slaughtered? If you have never had a pork chop from a heritage breed of pig, you are losing out. If you would like a sausage that is not full of lips, snouts and ears, or other non-appetizing parts you can talk to the guy that made the sausage at Clancey’s. If you care about what you eat, and you eat meat, you should deal with the frustration of Linden Hills and introduce yourself to the way meat should taste, feel and make you feel. Which is so much better than the antibiotic and steroid laden meat sold in grocery stores. Great meat, excellent people make Clancey’s a no brainer.

CLANCEY’s is sooo good i’d brave a MINNESOTA winter for their sandwiches. course it’s easy to say that when it’s mid august and i’ll be headed home to balmy SANDIEGO in a couple days but that doesn’t make it any less true. This is a neighborhood gem and by neighborhood i mean anywhere close enough you can get here in a day even if that means enduring a plane ride ‘cross country. JODI, the wife-unit, had a SALAMI sandwich(fresh mozzarella and roasted red bell pepper and dressed with vinegar and olive oil) and i had the ROASTBEEF(spicy horseradish mustard, lettuce, tomatoes and house pickled red onions). both sandwiches were on that amazing(chewy, crusty baguette style) bread from RUSTICA and both were indescribably delicious. nine-year old JULIANA had a bowl of cooked and chilled SHRIMP and seven-year old WYATT a hunk of SMOKEDSALMON. both right out of the meat counter and both were superb. left wishing we had a kitchen so i could grab something to cook up for dinner. everybody behind the counter took great care of us. even picked up a couple t-shirts and when we get home you can bet we’ll be spreading the word. some things(and CLANCEY’s on the short list) are just too good not to share. this place is seven stars on a five scale. go out of your way to get here(we made the pilgrimage twice) — whether you’re just down the block or can see where the blue PACIFIC meets the left coast from your front porch, it’s sooo worth the journey.
