Awesome hike! Mostly uphill on the way up. Make sure to wear shoes that have good grips on the bottom because there can be slippery parts. The view from up top is amazing. Took my friend and I about 4 hours to get in and out!

Beautiful! Mt. Brokeoff is a 3.5 mile hike to the summit of the second highest peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park. In my opinion it is far better than the popular Mt. Lassen trail. It is also the less popular of the two peaks which usually leaves the entire hike to a small handful of people. The trailhead is located just inside the park’s north boundary at 6800′(trail parking is actually reached before the south entrance station. Be sure to drive in to pay admission or you will get a ticket for parking with out paying) The summit is reached 3.5 miles later at 9235′(7 miles round trip). The 1st half of the trail is really mild with lots to see. About half way through you reach the«base» of Brokeoff and the ascent begins. From here the trail is tough as you begin to climb above the tree line. The whole way there are awesome vistas of Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta, Lake Almanor, and the Sacramento River Valley. The summit is just a rocky crag with a shear drop on the north side. There is also a hikers log of sorts there where you can scribble a note or leave something small behind. We had fun reading past entries over lunch at the summit. Over the course of the day we only saw 2 other groups and they were both on the lower half of the trail. Pros: Less popular than other well know trails in park. Awesome views in all directions from summit. Good place to escape the valley heat during summer.
