Holy smokes this place is expensive, especially if you wear contacts. On a positive note, they had no problem releasing both a glasses and contact lens prescription to us so that I could order on my own. My husband was changing jobs and we needed to use our eye benefit before he left and we both went here for yearly exams just to use the benefit we’d been paying for. Normally, I go to BeSpectacle’d in Wauwatosa, but they were really booked and due to my work schedule, I just needed to get an updated prescription. It was very easy to schedule an appointment here and the front desk people are VERY nice and very accommodating. I couldn’t have asked for better reception help, and, the doctor was nice, she was friendly enough and professional, but I felt like she assumed I should go to daily contacts and I really prefer the two week lenses. They have a decent selection of frames, but they seemed kind of expensive as well. Again, staff is really nice. When all was said and done, my husband’s regular eye exam was around $ 90ish dollars, covered by our benefits, and my contact lens exam and«regular» exam was $ 177. We didn’t get any special add-ons/tests. Just a straightforward basic exam for $ 177. I have NEVER paid more than $ 119. Even though the staff were nice and the doctor was nice enough, that is way too expensive. We had some really solid vision insurance, one of the better ones(VSP), and it still cost like around $ 150 – 160 out of pocket for my run-of-the mill eye exam.

I’ve been going here for over 15 years. Dr. Leffingwell is very thorough and keeps up on the latest technology. He’s also very good at explaining the technical stuff. My insurance and networks have changed a few times over the years, so It appears they take most insurances. Besides writing scripts for glasses he also addresses medical issues that could be present. Itchy eyes, etc. If there is a medical issue, then your medical insurance will get billed in addition to your vision coverage. This could result in an extra co-pay or deductible, so I feel the need to mention this. The staff has been friendly and professional, but honestly I only go once a year and don’t remember seeing the same staff when i visit. They have mentioned that they don’t work on commission, but they sure do «sell» the extra bells and whistles that accompany lenses and frames(and the cost can really add up when you get premium coatings etc., as well as fancy designer frames). I keep it fairly minimal and still spend a good amount. I don’t always get my glasses here, more often I ask for my script and get my glasses at a big box store when they have specials. If you get a lot of the premiums you can $ave a lot of cash this way. They are a little pricey here, and you could spend less elsewhere, but you do get good service as well as a nice hard case for your new glasses, and a bottle of lens cleaning solution. Tip: If you want to look at their frames, do so before your appointment! They put drops in your eyes, so they can check for glaucoma or whatever, and I’ll be damned if I can focus well on anything within 3 – 4 feet of me!, let alone see how new frames look on me. This is why my wife doesn’t want me to pick glasses on my own. To be fair, I did get good help picking frames.

The staff is nice. They really wanted to push their 1-day wear contacts on me. I wanted the less expensive contacts. Not sure if it was because I’m a woman but my husband had a better experience. I wanted to go with the same contacts he got but they insisted I go home and try it out then place my order. I’m a working mom of a 2 year old plus at the time was 8 mos. pregnant. If they were good at reading their customers they would have taken my order then. One more thing my husband’s contacts were shipped direct to the house. They never gave me that option. I had to take my 2 year old in to pick them up. As a first time customer I wasn’t happy to say the least. But when it comes to the exam they are good at what they do. I may go again but I’m definitely in no hurry.
