Wendts

I stopped here with my husband because we drive by it all the time. We ordered a pizza and the Wendt’s 3−2−1 platter.
The pizza was mediocre and the platter was horrible. I wasn’t able to finish it. The waitress was told about how disappointing the platter was and she offered nothing to help remedy the situation — no money off or having them remake it or offering to let me order something else.

Not too impressed, it’s very clean and nice, but the food is just typical bar food. Had the buffalo wrap and it was «ok», nothing spectacular. Paid extra for the criss cut fries (which are my absolute favorite) and they were way over cooked and chewy. Maybe the food tastes better later at night with a couple beers in you???

If you play the video slot machines and try to collect you winnings forget about it! It’s next to impossible to collect. The unfortunate thing is that the winnings were not actual winnings but some of my money back from my investment. I didn’t «win» at all!

While this is probably a local’s hangout, it’s a biker bar, pure and simple. It’s a block from House of Harley (reviewed previously) and is decorated with biker memorabilia. That makes it a biker bar!
After getting the GPS installed, we wanted lunch. Not Subway, not McD’s, but burgers & beer. The guys at the shop told us that the food was pretty good, so we took a walk. The place was packed! The bartender handed us the special 110^th menu, which was pretty much burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs or a salad. Burgers it is! They must have just restocked the beer, since it was still slightly warm, but the bartender did put a few on ice for us, which was great since the temps were in the mid-90’s outside. The food did take quite a while, but that was ok because we were sharing ride «war stories» with some of the other folks at the bar. The one odd thing was that the bartender didn’t take the food order, a waitress did as well as deliver the food. The burgers were pretty good, especially when washed down with one of the ice cold Budweisers!

One star is deserved as it looks neat and clean in the bar/​seating area. What does not get any stars is everything else.
Our service was slow and inattentive. They were out of iced tea and blamed it on ‘someone’ not re-​ordering from the H-​D 110^th (which was two weeks ago). The server was polite but not friendly. Since it is more of a bar than a restaurant, I expect a little more smile and welcome — like when Norm went into Cheers.
We stopped in to try their ‘famous’ hot wings and were sorely disappointed. The wings were tough and chewy with very little meat on them. The basket came with 4 maybe 5 wings, totaling about 3 ox of meat for $ 8. Want fries? That is another $ 1. The Bleu Cheese and Ranch were standard bottled Sysco fare.
The waffle fries (yes we paid the extra) were ok. They were recently prepared, cooked to temp. and not soggy. No big whoop, but fine.
We also tried the Reuben rolls — one of my go-​to apps when I can get them. The wrapper was a little thick and chewy. And the stuffing was cheesy with a small portion of meat and I do not remember any karut in them. There were four of them for $ 8.
My bloody mary was good and it came with an assortment of garnish (cut in half — who gives half a pickle?). I have to confess it was a ripped off kind of feeling when you pull the toothpick/​stake out and see that your beef stick, string cheese and pickle are ‘just the tip’. And then the price was about $ 7.
The server did take the wings off the bill when we mentioned our complaints and I thought that was fair.
I wanted to like Wendt’s — we have been searching for a nearby locally owned wing spot for a loooong time. This was not the place and it does not seem to be the place for any food prepared with love. It appears to be an ‘open the frozen bag and fry it’ kind of place. And that is just not good enough to go back.

Fish fry was very good and my hubby loved the clam chowder. The potato pancakes were interesting but very good. Will definately come back.

If you’re looking for quiet romantic table in the corner type of environment this is not your place. This is a bar atmosphere with an classier bar crowd. My wife and I frequent Wendts at least once a week for after work sandwich and drinks. The chicken wrap with waffle fries is a great start for a first timer.

I rarely need to change a review but I feel this is necessary. I took my Brother and Sister-​in-​law to Wendt’s because they always had a fantastic pub burger. Unfortunately times change. Each plate always came with a home made cookie. It was a nice sweet treat. This time though the cookies were Keebler. The burger that was once hand shaped and cooked to order was now an obviously shaped and frozen patty. If I wanted a burger patty I’d go to McDonald’s. Very disappointing.
