Books are expensive here. As always, look to find your books online first before purchasing them here. If you try to sell your books back to the UWM Bookstore at the end of the semester, they’ll offer you pennies on a dollar. So sell your books online or to friends! Good selection of merchandise and college hoodies, etc. I snagged a zip-up freshman year that I still have after graduating, and I bought another as a gift for someone who wore it until it had holes :-). Lines at the cash registers suck at the beginning of each semester… you can easily stand in line for 45 minutes waiting to check out. So if you do have to buy books, get them before the first day of classes to avoid the worst lines. Big purses and backpacks are not allowed in the store, so use the small lockers that are near the entrance. Bring a quarter because you need one to get a key to use the locker, but it automatically returns your quarter when you retrieve your stuff. I think they could have better hours, as they are completely closed on Sundays.

I saved this review for my final semester at UWM. Simple avoid buying your books here. They are overpriced(particularly for used books) and will likely tell you your book isn’t being bought back at the end of year. They moved the«tech store» in here and I was foolish enough to visit it to make a laptop purchase 2 weeks ago. I paid $ 600 for a «new» Dell PC that I was promised would have both anti-virus and word installed for me. I was constantly assured this… my only reason for buying one on campus was that I needed one STAT and am not good at tech stuff like virus protection. So after I pay for the laptop they inform me I need to go to the uwm tech department. I was promptly told by them that LEGALLY they can’t help me with anti-virus. Awesome. Would have never spent my money at the bookstore then. Now, since I’ve been home, this laptop runs like some shit from 2005. It won’t even access websites once they’re typed in to the browser and submitted. I tried call the tech store for help(the one that sold me the laptop in the bookstore) and they told me «no returns» and«they really don’t know what to say.» To me, this is UWM finding one last way to give me the middle finger before we part ways… and I’d like to give it right back.

Be forewarned, if you have a backpack or large purse, you aren’t allowed to bring it into the bookstore. Fair enough. They don’t want to take the risk of people stealing books. I get it. However, this means you have to leave your bag at the door, unattended, on the floor. Why not add lockers like the UW-Madison book store? People carry laptops & iPads with them and are forced to leave those unattended. Yikes! Also, an ID is required with all credit card purchases so don’t forget your ID!

Um, there are 2 big banks of lockers, so, yeahhh… not sure where that other reviewer was. Overpriced though. That’s what you get on a college campus. Get your books online.
