Sorry, all, this place is far too hyped and over-priced. I went with two coworkers, ordered 8 different plates to share and none of us wanted seconds on any single dish. While the atmosphere hummed with the ubiquitously trendy, dim Edison bulbs and menu items were brimming with buzzwords, none of the dishes were commendable. Every single one was over-complicated, stodgy and muddled. I can actually say this is the first time ever I didn’t like a preparation of cheese curds, and those are extremely difficult to mess up. The food failed on all levels.

Easter Brunch was NOT worth $ 50! They had a limited menu compared to what is typically offered at the $ 30 price point. Only 2 ‘order off the menu’ items, no ribs, no candied bacon. The added a seafood station that included pealed gulf shrimp that were soggy from sitting in ice and small cups filled with crab and a ceviche, completely underwhelming. The carving stations were the standard prime rib and ham, and made to order omelets. Other than that there were a few salads, hot pasta, bacon, sausage, waffles. The desert station was slim pickens, a few brownies and cut up cringle. So disappointed compared to the regular brunch, I thought for $ 20 extra they would of at minimum had their usually offering.

Brunch was delicious Especially for the price. $ 29 and includes 3 mimosas! Love that they were able to accommodate our rather large party of 30 on a Sunday. Not too many brunch places that can do that. The food was unique and a great variety. My favorites were the fish tacos and red velvet pancakes. The atmosphere was nice and cozy, service was prompt. I loved that you can order off the menu and also from the buffet which is all included in the price. Unlimited. Worth the price! Will definitely come back again!

I’ve been hearing about this Great Northern Brunch for a while now. While $ 29 can seem like a high entry point for brunch, having 3 included mimosas evens it out quite nicely. There’s something for everyone, between the carving station for meat eaters, fish, cheeses, fruits and veggies set out, as well as your standard breakfast fare. Where the Great Northern Brunch stands out is the made-to-order section, where they throw together small serving size dishes that are TOPNOTCH. I’m not a big pancake fan, but their Tiramisu Pancakes are the most delicious thing I’ve had in a long time, and the Crab Benedict was perfectly cooked and I’m 80% sure I’m drooling just thinking about them again. The service was relatively fast, and the only issue was that after being there for about an hour, we did feel a little rushed out. Outside of that, I definitely feel like we got what we payed for, and I might have a new monthly tradition.

We went here on Feb 4th for my daughters 16th birthday lunch. Service was good, but the food was over priced and not very good. My daughters ordered the fish tacos and they were terrible cold fish and cold tortillas who does that? No one wanted to eat them. The soup made me sick, the wings were good and the chicken sandwich was also good. Overall very disappointed!

My husband’s company has hosted their Christmas Party at the Iron Horse for the past 3 years. On Sunday morning we come down here before checking out and it is amazing! There is a huge Sunday brunch with an amazing variety of quality food. To go with the brunch you can also order select items off the menu like eggs benedict or waffles. The brunch is quite pricey but is so good and such great quality of food. If you get there before the brunch they also have great breakfast items to order from the menu. This menu isn’t nearly as pricey but you are limited to what you can order. All food is amazing no matter what you order!

It’s very difficult to give a totally objective review of Smyth, because the day that I visited I was in a good mood and was in the midst of a great visit to Milwaukee. Having said that– this review is for breakfast which I didn’t see that many comments about. There are so many delicious sounding things on the menu to choose from– it’s truly a difficult decision and equally difficult to not over order more than the average non truck driver«should» have as their morning meal. After some deliberation, I ordered the sour cream pancakes with a side of fresh fruit. I felt that both were delightful– with the pancakes being served on a cast iron plate on top of a wooden trivet like thing(I am sure the foodies have a more specific and technical term for it) which seemed to keep them warm. The pancakes had a wonderful texture and as I told someone else– were like a party for the taste buds. The syrup seemed to be genuine maple syrup rather than high fructose corn syrup with flavoring– and it certainly tasted the part. The coffee was interesting– being of good character and body but without the bitterness of some coffees that people seem to be addicted to these days. The service that I received was excellent without being intrusive, and I felt that it was the just right start for a day of adventure in Milwaukee. My breakfast at Smyth was a bit pricier than the average iHop breakfast, but in my estimation, the additional cost was worth it.

Not quite on Sixth and not quite in Walker’s Point, the Iron Horse was a little more difficult to find than I was expecting, though I imagine it’s trying to figuratively bridge the neighborhood and the Harley Davidson Museum, which drives(much too loudly, as is the case for all Harleys) a lot of its business. As a destination hotel, Smyth does a more than adequate job of matching the boutique nature of the hotel rooms: the dark wood and literal iron goes a long way towards establishing a solid concept, and the strong meat-centric menu produces food to match. Grilled lettuce salads are a little passé in 2016, but I’ve always liked the little bit of smoky dimension it provided, especially when paired with bacon. And a crispy chicken sandwich might be the safe boring option at other restaurants, but here it’s a full-on assault on Chick-fil-A, besting it in every way — a flavorful brined chicken breast, much crispier than the fast food restaurant could ever hope to achieve, nestled between a pillowy soft potato roll. It’s comfort food, and more delicate than you’d think the blacksmith-tinged restaurant was capable of being.

Reviewing the $ 29 brunch buffet– not great. The buffet items were all average — blueberry crepes totally flavorless, cheesy potatoes were undercooked potatoes in velveeta-like slime, ribs were tough and sauce was overly sweet. Of the made to order items the bright spot was the tiramisu pancakes. Corned beef hash didn’t have much in the way of flavor. The prime rib was cold, and the Belgian waffles had no toppings available??? Who eats Belgian waffles with only syrup on top? The 3 limit on mimosas was a drag, and our waiter asked us frequently if we were ready for the check. which was annoying. The setting is a lovely spot. Lots of good ideas but nothing was that well executed. I left disappointed.

We’ve stayed at the iron horse 4 times and always have a couple meals here. This morning, we had breakfast. My daughter ordered the French toast and I built a healthy omelette with red peppers, spinach and Wisconsin bacon, potatoes on the side for the kids. Blast it that the potatoes were delicious breakfast French fry morsels and the French toast was insanely good. I ate both and destroyed my carb avoidance. Totally.worth.the.carbs

1 word — disappointing. I’ve been meaning to try Smyth for quite a while and have heard lots of good things. I finally got the chance last week and have to say I was unimpressed and doubt I would return. The atmosphere and vibe was a little hip/trendy with a reasonable level of noise. Our service was fine, but forgettable. The food, which was what I was excited to try, on the other hand was really unimpressive especially at this price point. I tried a salad, when they brought the right one(got someone elses first) it was fine, the meat & cheese plates were as expected, but again nothing unique, for diner I went with the rabbit meatballs and Trout. The meatballs were ok, but a touch dry and a little gamier than rabbit I’ve had in the past. The trout was pretty bad. A touch over cooked, and quite oily made it just not good. For something trying to be a more elite dining experience Smyth fell short on most every level.(I’m not even holding it against them that the valet went home with my keys in his pocket and left me waiting while he came back to work).

Stopped in with my husband for our anniversary. I started by getting an old fashion sweet and it was on point. I then had the Autumn Greens salad. The endive added such a fun texture to the salad and the giant chunks of blue cheese were delicious. My husband had the butternut squash soup and told me he would have liked to lick the bowl clean. We then shared the rabbit meatballs and diver scallops. I love scallops and these were done to perfection. I have never had rabbit so I cannot compare it to any other dishes but it was really good. The meatballs were moist and rich. We also tried the Brussels sprouts and the sauce they came in was divine. Overall this restaurant lived up to the hype and I would come back to try the other things on the menu in a heart beat.

The restaurant inside the Iron Horse hotel. Simple and fabulous food. Great service and attention to detail. We had a big lunch so we had an appetizer and two medium plates: the rabbit meatballs, and the scallops. Wow. As a visiting San Franciscan and former Chicagoan, I continue to be blown away by the quality of the food in Milwaukee restaurants and Smyth did not disappoint. Chateuneuf Du Pape on the wine menu completed a perfect little menu

Great food fresh and unique Kyle and cauliflower, diver scallops, every good steak and many other tasty delight cool items. But the real store is the top notch service by the whole staff. From the bartender, server and kitchen staff. All four of order 6 minutes before the kitchen closed. Everything come out on time warm and Beautiful. Thanks to all

Pork Belly sandwich. truly was the one of the two absolute best BLT sandwich I have ever eaten! As expected, it is extremely fatty. but sinfully delicious. Truly, it is a sandwich to die for(which you probably would, with clotted arteries!). By the way, parking is free, only for diners. update: they no longer have pork belly sandwich.

Came here for lunch. I had their burger and it was very good. My companion had the fish tacos and he was very happy also. What impressed me most was the service. We were treated like VIP guests and the staff was super-attentive. I will definitely return. One thing I would like is a changing menu here and a few more options.

I expected better. Typically I try to not have high expectations of any restaurant, despite what I may have heard. But Smyth is well established, and given the advanced billing, and the price, I expected better. The décor is fantastic, as it is in the entire hotel. It’s rustic meets biker meets traditional/classic. There is dark wood, dark iron and dark slate. Most likely I would not have chosen this restaurant, but their participation in Walker’s Point Foodie Week prompted a friend to want to go, so I agreed. The Foodie Week Menu offered three courses for $ 31, from a choice of two appetizers, three entrees and two desserts. The appetizer round delivered a Sweet Corn Chowder and a Chicken Liver Parfait. The chowder featured plenty of fresh sweet corn and a few red peppers in a very rich cream broth. The chicken parfait was a liver spread served with a side of fresh bread. The chowder was very laden with cream and butter and a bit too rich for me to taste more than a few spoons. The parfait spread has good flavor, but no real wow factor or taste that made me want more. Our entrees were Black Earth Pork Tenderloin topped with Pork Belly and Onion Tortilla. The Pork Tenderloin was served more rare than I had ever had pork and the low lighting made it a challenge to decipher how low, until I saw my photos. The pork belly was ok, it also appeared a bit underdone. The tastiest part of the dish was the bed of dumplings under the pork. The were handcrafted, light and delicious. The onion tortilla had a good flavor, but the portion was rather small. Desserts were rich, as could be expected. Salted Caramel Pudding had a cream forward taste and very subtle notes of caramel and salt were lost in the richness. Peach crepes were good, but again so much rich cream buried the taste. For my palate the over-abundance of butter and cream really took away from the actual flavors of the food. Instead of enhancing, they became very overwhelming Sadly, there was little in this meal that would entice me to return.

I was wavering between 3 and 4, but the food tasted good, and the service was mostly spot on, so I think they earned the 4th star. The place: classy. tons of different sized jars with oil and wicks aligned the walls. dim. service was very attentive — poured our water, changed our silverware — except when I needed a knife for my dessert crêpe… but I got one eventually. The only somewhat odd thing is some of the seating arrangements they have. We were seated in a booth with 2 separate tables(big enough for 3 or 4 people to sit at, each), and the group of gals also in that booth commented(loudly, rudely) that they were dismayed that«other people» had to sit near them. This isn’t entirely a reflection on Smyth, but I could hear every single word that came out of their mouths, and to me, that’s not a really conducive to a pleasurable dining experience. The taste: We went for Walker’s Point foodie week to try it out, since the hubs is sort of averse to eating in hotels(after all, they’re usually catering to people not from around here, so in our experience, have been sub-par). He had the chicken liver(with these amazing apricot noyeax… which should have been called YESyeax, because they were great), the pork belly, and the salted caramel pudding. I had the bread salad, the trout, and the peach crepes. Everything tasted good… interesting, well prepared. Amazing? No. Mediocre? No… Just not very exciting or unique, in my opinion. From this experience though, I would consider it for a group of people who aren’t very adventurous eaters, and I think everyone could find something on the menu that suits them. My face: Wondering if we could have eaten off the regular menu for less than $ 62(plus tax and tip) — and I think we could. Normally, we don’t each order an appetizer and a dessert, but we might have opted for other entrees. Content with our choice for Walker’s point foodie week, and would recommend for a date night, if anyone asked.

Overall I think this place is very unique and has some great food to offer. That being said there are three minor things that I think is a little annoying here. First off the large dinning area is extremely loud, even after asking our waitress to turn down the music the place was still hard to head someone sitting across from you. Second, the menus can be confusing with needing to select large, medium, or small plates to eat. And lastly, the cost if everything is very very high. The Cowboy Ribeye is $ 56! This place doesn’t seem like it would be serving a steak that is that expensive. Now! Even though those three things are downfalls, the place is still a great place to eat, the food is fantastic, the dining room(although it is loud) is very different and cool compared to other places I have seen in the area, and the service was on par to what I would expect from a place like this.

Brunch at Smyth was definitely better than dinner. Was it because I knew what to expect? After all, brunch is rarely a fine dining experience like I expected at dinner. But no matter the reason, if you are in the area, check out brunch! We were warmly greeted and shown to a seat along the wall. The menu has a very good selection of items. I went with the«plain Jane»(2 eggs anyway I liked) a side of Bernie’s bacon(a Port Washington specialty) and a taste of Racine Kringle. My dining companion went with the breakfast sandwich with his choice of meat. Our entrees came up quickly, our coffee cups kept full and my Bloody Mary perfectly pierced(loved the beer chaser!). And while any bacon is good– this thick cut, applewood smoked treat rocked my world!! i would go back just for more of that bacon! And the size of that breakfast sandwich was unbelievable! All in all, a great way to start my weekend in Milwaukee!
