This is one of our favorite restaurants, though part of that is living two blocks away. The Friday fish fry has made the list of top places in the Journal-Sentinel a couple of times, and my wife certainly agrees. She only wishes their Friday night specials were available on other days. The basic menu under the new régime is Italian, and my own favorite is the chicken parmesan, since I can convince myself that it’s being chicken makes it healthy for me. The music during dinner hours can feature a lounge-type piano player or a vocalist with accompanist. It makes a pleasant background noise for an older crowd. The décor is, I guess, Art Nouveau, or perhaps just early Mafioso – lots of classical nudes. Some people really like it. There are really good free munchies for happy hour drinkers. In a pinch, a couple of trips to that table could render dinner unnnecessary.

Looking for a special dining experience? Savoy Piano Bar is the place to go in Milwaukee. The owners are Italian and take great pride in authentic Italian food and excellent service. My two favorite dinners are the Siciliano and Sicilian Style baked Cod, but all of the food has been excellent. The service is excellent and the bartender Jerry is the best! He kind of reminds me of someone in the movies but you’ll have to go yourself to see what I mean. They usually have entertainment on Friday night. This is a place you’ll tell your friends about.

Savoy Piano Bar & Lounge — Milwaukee, WI — 1962 N Prospect. Our 3rd stop takes us to a surprisingly nice restaurant located in the historic Shorecrest Hotel. They have 2 choices for Friday Fish — Sicilian Baked Cod for $ 10.95 or Fried — Hand Dipped Cod for $ 9.95. Of course we went with the fried fish. It also comes with fries or potato pancakes, cole slaw, bread and butter. The fish had a delicate batter on it, cooked really well, and portions were generous. Now I don’t normally order potato pancakes because I find that most places can’t make them well but I after hearing how this restaurant made them I decided to take a chance. I am glad I did because the fries were mediocre at best. The potato pancakes on the other hand with the applesauce were the best I have ever had. So far the best fish fry of 2011 and lands in the 10 ten fish frys of all-time. Total bill for 5 people $ 80 including 5 frys and 3 beers. Make a reservation if you decide to go.

First of all, Savoy has reopened as a piano/neighborhood bar serving good food. The emphasis is on the bar, and the menu is pizza, burgers, and deli, rather than the traditional fine dining it was once known for. Ambiance and atmosphere are off the chart here. Situated inside the Shorecrest Hotel, the beautiful museum like décor is nicely balanced by friendliness and great service. The bartender Jerry is a pro and makes everyone feel welcome. The drink menu is fun and the prices reasonable. Free appetizers during happy hour are a definite draw. Although the menu is pared down from the Savoy of old, the food is great – perfect for a late night pizza. This is a great place to stop in for a martini after work or on the weekend. Make sure to walk through the old Shorecrest lobby, it’s like a quick time machine trip.

Great bartender, absolutely gorgeous place to dine. Dressing up is encouraged. Everyone was friendly and there were plenty of drinks to choose from. It got busy and the waitstaff got behind occasionally. We did not get food, just dessert, which was okay(they only had cheesecake left because we ordered it late). I can’t wait to go for dinner. Ambiance: A+ Drinks: A+ Food: n/a Service: A Overall: A

Very nice place, classic hotel setting. We started at the bar, I had a Makers Manhattan and the wife had a T & T. Very good, actually I wished we had gotten there earlier to hang at the bar a bit, we were there and our table was ready minutes later. For entrees I had the fried jumbo shrimp(breaded, huge and delicious) and my wife had the shrimp scampi pasta, which she said was really good. I will definitely go here again, and get there about half an hour before my reservation to enjoy the great bar!
