Very good sushi. Was served in a timely matter. I was going to just pick it up and go but there was room at the bar. Jake was very friendly and helpful. It was nice I got free soup for lunch! Nice on those cold days

The sushi we ordered was all very good. Three of us had bento boxes. I was disappointed with the amount of meat I had in mine compared to the amounts the other two had. The box includes a chefs choice item. It ended up being some sort of deep fried mashed potato concoction. Was not impressed with it. The fourth person in our party ordered bibimbop which has a fried egg on top. The center was supposed to be runny but came very hard. He asked for a different egg which came out much better but we ended up getting charged for it. The service was spotty with dirty dishes piling up and not even being removed when other dishes were bought out. Not sure if we will go back.

Food was good especially the calamari appetizer but service was really bad– at many times throughout our meal there wasn’t any staff on the floor. Granted it’s not a huge place but I noticed multiple tables with empty drink and water glasses, long wait times between service and patrons glancing around. Our server seemed clueless — when we asked if a dish was large enough for 4 she only brought 1 utensil for it, forgot to deduct something, never asked if we needed anything.

This place has really gone down in my book. We had the worst experience here recently. We went in on a Friday night to use our groupon before it expired. We walked in and were greeted by the hostess, there were 2 of us, I asked for a table for 2, he asked if we had a groupon and I said yes. He told me it was going to be a half hour wait. I looked around at about 6 – 7 empty tables but thought maybe they had reservations coming in so we agreed to wait at the bar. We ordered a couple drinks and a couple appetizers while we waited. 1 appetizer came out right away the other never came. After sitting at the bar for well over a half hour the bartender said the chef had to remake the appetizer 3 times b/c he wasn’t happy with how it turned out. That’s when we realized that the hostess never came to get us for a table. I looked around, still empty tables available. But whatever we were hungry so we decided to just stay at the bar so we placed out orders. I ordered sushi which came out In a reasonable amount of time my boyfriend ordered a steak entre with rice we waited and waited and waited, my other appetizer finally came out which sandy worth the wait and we had to ask the bartender where his entre was we waited and waited some more, finally his entre came. Not sure why a stir fry type of dish takes over a half hour to cook… Anyway after all that we were pretty irritated to say the least so who I assume was the manager came out and apologized for the wait and gave us a gift card to come back… With $ 13 on it… What a joke! The specialty sushi rolls there are at least $ 17 so what am I going to get with $ 13? Also there was another couple at the bar that said they pretty much got treated the same way after being asked if they had a groupon. Interesting that you try to drum up business by offering a groupon but then basically shun anyone who comes in with one.

Had the viva la Mexico and the Hawaiian. Wow!!! Some of the best sushi I have had in all my travels and I have been all over the U.S. Bartender was very good with the recommendations and very personable. Even with the restaurant being kind of small it is a must visit place if the desire for sushi hits!

Great miso soup, edamame and pepper steak. I highly suggest the small plates! Best Asian fusion cuisine in Milwaukee

I Just Don’t Get It For a non seaside city Milwaukee has really good sushi choices. Izumi’s is excellent on the north and Kyoto is as excellent on the south. There’s lots of very good places… and then there’s Sake Tumi. I joined the throngs of downtown eatery enthusiasts as Milwaukee Street was being developed into a restaurant row. Therefore, my first experience was years ago. It was decidedly AVERAGE. There’s was no reason to avoid it or to make a special trip. I was recently downtown so during a late lunch break my colleague and I decided to grab lunch nearby. His choice was Sake Tumi which I thought I owed another try. After being seated at 1:53PM we were given dinner menus. We asked the server for lunch menus to which he responded, «Our lunch menu ends at 2.» I showed him the 1:55 time on my phone and said, «it’s not yet 2.» He responded that he couldn’t change the«policy» without the manager’s approval – then he walked toward the kitchen. At 1:59 he returned with lunch menus. The three maki lunch special was $ 17 making it $ 6 more expensive than the aforementioned places. My colleague ordered it and i opted for a tofu soup with added beef. My soup was quite good and would have been excellent but for the floating clotted clumps of beef that were both gristly and overcooked. My colleague’s maki lunch was pathetic looking. At best it would be described as skimpy and looking unappetizing. It was $ 17 worth of shortchanged rice with a modicum of salmon. The server was pleasant and did a good job. The policy of ignoring the central daylight time zone was weird. The soup was worth having again sans viande. The maki was just silly. Based upon the other reviews I might be back to get toasty with the masses at happy hour – but afterwards I’d be off to a really good sushi place.

Went for happy hour with the wife Great happy hour specials. ½ off most appetizers and all drinks. From sushi to flank steak to Mai Thais. Fu Manchu was aces. Sake flights. #1&2 Next we ordered the flank steak. Prepared medium. It was tasty. And chicken teriyaki. Yum. Pros — great location on trendy Milwaukee Ave; great service; cheap happy hour specials

Personally this is some of the best sushi in MKE. They have a spectacular happy hour and I’ve always had great service there. The bartender Tom holds it down second to none. Parking is sometimes scarce but its always worth the walk. Try the Shang-Hai Black Pepper Steak! Way to good and its a non sushi item! Love this place!

Been here a few times, I recon it’s about time to share a review! Always had excellent experiences here, good service, good food, a solid sushi experience in Milwaukee. Being next door to another sushi establishment, I would choose Sake Tumi most of the time(next door is a little more on the fancy high-end side). Great happy hour deals on both drinks and food, the food happy hour deals are always more enticing for me — so a good thing to note. Definitely order the crab rangoon! By far my favorite thing had on the menu, also try one of the sushis with salmon skin, it sounds odd but is delish! It was sold to me as the«bacon of the sea on sushi», who doesn’t want something bacon like on their sushi? I would also recommend the sesame chicken if you’re looking to venture away from sushi options. Excellent spot! Be sure to check it out next time you are craving sushi!

I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars but I really liked this place. I bought a groupon and 4 of us visited Sake Tumi on a Saturday night. We made a reservation and our table was ready for us when we arrived. The food was really good. Nicely displayed and very tasty. The other 3 in my party agreed with me. Our waitress, Lisa, was knowledgeable and friendly and contributed to our overall enjoyment of the evening. My wife and I will definitely return. There were some comments on Unilocal about the bathrooms and the fact that they have«a life of their own». In the Men’s room, instead of seeing a reflection of yourself in a standard-issue mirror, you look into a large live fish-tank. I thought it was very unusual but in a good way. Their bathrooms are definitely worth seeing.

Best happy hour in the city, for sure. Half off whole drink menu and half off appetizers. Who can go wrong with that?! Seriously great for grabbing a drink after a day of hell at the office, yeah? Anyway, I’ve been coming here for years, it’s my favorite sushi in Milwaukee. Godzilla and the Kai fire specialty rolls are my favorite.

Not going to lie, sushi in Wisconsin felt like a gamble and we only ended up at Sake Tumi because I heard they had a happy hour. Wow! Such a good choice. We tried the crab rangoons, charred escolar, deep-fried soft shell crab, rare tuna and vegetables, sashimi plate, sesame chicken, and a couple of the maki rolls. Everything(even the chicken which I kind of thought might be boring) was sooo delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Atmosphere was modern romantic. Eat, drink Sake, and go here.

This place was pretty cool. A very elegant place with a large menu. You are bound to find something for everyone here. One thing though: beware of the«aquarium» themed bathrooms. They really don’t mesh into the rest of the restaurant. You feel like you accidentally walked into an underage club. The tuna takari was one of those dishes(appetizers) that I want to eat a few nights of the week. Sauteed with vegetables, this dish was not only delicious, but felt like I was giving my body something it very much needed. The rolls were delicious– we went with the mexican specialty roll with jalepenos. It was amazing in flavor. The rice in all of our rolls fell apart, but I would always prefer that opposed to rice that’s hard as a rock. I didn’t have my favorite seaweed salad here, but it was still fresh and satisfied me. All in all, I would definitely return. Everything was resonable priced. Good spot for sure.

I’ve had a lot of sushi in Milwaukee, but Sake Tumi is definitely a new favorite of mine! After I found a Groupon for $ 20 off I decided to go check it out. I had called ahead to make a reservation because it’s a Saturday and I assumed they’d be slammed but I got in at the time that I wanted with no problem. The parking wasn’t great, but hey, it’s downtown. The restaurant itself is very trendy and beautifully styled, but the atmosphere is perfectly relaxed and casual. The staff were all so kind and the manager was such a nice guy! I had a Lucky Buddha beer, miso soup, crab Rangoon, Tigers Eye, Nigiri & Sashimi Omakase, and the tempura fried ice cream. The beer was great, it had almost a German taste to it, with a sweetish finish. The miso soup was average, it tasted just like it would in any other restaurant. The crab rangoons and Tigers Eye were exceptional. The Nigiri & Sashimi combination was beautifully prepared and delicious! If you go, try to save some room at the end! The tempura fried ice cream was so good! A ball of vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two slices of cake, fried, and drizzled with chocolate. It was so pretty and so good! Overall, Sake Tumi was a great restaurant and a must-try if you’re in Milwaukee and looking for sushi!

Bottom line: I think this place is overrated. I looooove sushi and I find the sushi here unremarkable and kind of average. The servings are large, but the food is expensive! The best thing I’ve had on the menu is the eel(one of my favorites) and I can’t even say that particularly stood out. My experience is limited to lunch so maybe dinner is better, but the lunch crowd is kind of schnooty. My lunches for one person have been easily close to $ 30. I just feel like there are a lot of other places in town where I can get superb sushi for a lot less of a hit to my pocket book.

I’m eating at Saki Tumi restaurant today for my birthday and I received bad news that I can’t use my birthday coupon. Bummer! The manager says it can’t be used because I’m ordering during happy hour although, it’s not stated on the coupon. I wanted to explain to the manager, LJ, that these exclusions should be included in the birthday coupon, but according to the waitress he was too busy to speak with customers. I won’t be back here again! What manager doesn’t have time to respond to customers?

I happened to stop by during happy hour, which, of happy hours I’ve seen — they have a pretty good deal: half off their entire drink menu and half off their small plates, making for a great afternoon and a variety of choices. Considering that I had to go to work shortly after this meal, I opted out of a drink, but ordered the Buddha pouch, soft shell crab Kara age, gyoza dumpling and crab ragoon. The Buddha pouch was by far my favorite — there were so many flavors in the curry sauce that came with it, and it was a good portion. The crab ragoon was also fabulous– the perfect shell to filling ratio and the sauce was superb. The dumplings, and soft shell crab were just ok — not much flavor, nothing to write home about. My server(the bartender) was great — knew the menu pretty well and had some good recommendations. Overall, it was a pleasant meal. So why the four stars? I sat by the window. Five minutes after I sat down, the person I assume was the manager started washing the window it was sitting at. Seriously? I haven’t worked in the service industry long but even I know you don’t do that…

If I could give six stars I would! The lunch I had today was worth at least one full star. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend a tasting event here to choose some new menu items. So I started my meal today with one of the winners; Salmon Pinwheels stuffed with Green Olives on a Bed of Green with Sesame Stick Croutons and Asian Dressing. The salty green olives were a nice balance to the fish oils in the salmon. And the bed of fresh greens was topped with Daikon sprouts with added a nice crunch when paired with the sesame sticks. But Sake Tumi didn’t stop there in wowing me. My entrée was the Sexy Scallop rolls, and they have some of the best flavors I’ve had in a Japanese restaurant. Panko crusted scallops were rolled with a small dollop of fresh cream cheese and a healthy portion of equally fresh avocado. The always tasty tempura flakes were also rolled inside. This was then topped with a thin egg wrap which was covered, really covered(see photo) with the most tender and well seasoned shreds of scallops. Who knew you could shred scallops, let alone make them taste so amazing. And a tangy wasabi mayo adorned the entire dish. Service at the bar was spot on and they even changed the television channel to the Brewers game at my request. Quite frankly, if I had the time, I could have sat there all afternoon. But I really needed to write this review(and get back to work)!

We want to Sake Tumi a few days ago with a Groupon. We had a wonderful waiter who was very attentive and accommodating — he fixed our table, which had a slight wobble, and was prompt with refilling our water and clearing away dishes. As for the food, for an appetizer we had vegetable gyoza. Now, I love gyoza and h e been on a gyoza kick lately. The gyoza at Sake Tumi was not good. They were tasteless — it was like the outside was over-cooked(soggy) and the inside was undercooked(the texture was a little off). There were hardly any vegetables. Honestly, it tasted like something we could have bought in the frozen aisle at Pick-n-Save. For dinner, we split the nigiri and sashimi dinner and also had a salmon avocado roll. The chef gets to pick the fish. For sashimi, we ended up with tuna, super white tuna, and octopus. We thought that octopus was an odd choice — and it was sinewy and of course rubbery. I like octopus, but not as sashimi. The tuna was amazing, but the super white tuna was hard and fishy. The nigiri was pretty good, actually — we liked the choices of fish, especially the hamachi and salmon. As for the roll, of course that was good, since you can’t beat salmon and avocado! I’m giving Sake Tumi three stars, because we weren’t really impressed by their food. And since it’s right next door to Umami Moto, I’d recommend going there instead!
