Danger! Although the food is 4 – 5 stars, I leave a 1 star review as a word of caution. The restaurant is located at very dangerous place. It’s situated next to a liquor store and across from one of the seedier Walmarts. The last time I was there, a man in the parking lot tried to approach me. On my way back out, he was selling rocks to a car that pulled up. I would not go there after dark.

My husband and I love exploring different cuisine and have had some good experience with Indian food so we decided to try this place out. We ordered the special dinner for two. The server was very nice and was explaining to us what each dish were. We really enjoyed the main course but did not like the side dishes, the sauce and the dessert. To be fair, the food were very authentic and but they are an acquired taste.

Overpriced for the portion… The places I normally go give you double what royal India does for the same price and I actually prefer the flavor of the other place as well… There was almost no meat in their lamb biryani, I was disappointed.

I ordered takeout. Chicken curry, bland, onion kulcha, ok and nothing to rave about, the vegetable platter was good but the dipping sauce did not taste fresh, and kheer(rice pudding, which was advertised as having almonds, raisins, and pistachio but in reality had none of those ingredients and had very little flavor.) Based on this dinner I will not be ordering from them again.

What a spiraling disappointment twice in one week. The only thing this place had going for itself is water refills, nice plates and a cute server. The food was not flavored well, not Spicey or temperature warm. It became cold way way too quickly. The naan was amazing the first day and dried out, burnt and crispy the next. The buffet is 10.95 and doesn’t include Chai or soup or soda and only has 2 dessert items(the kheer was a total let down) I expect more because every buffet in the area has set this expectation.

Love, love, love the food here! The lunch buffet is one of our favorite stops. I love curry and always have multiple delicious choices here. The offer naan on the buffet, but we usually end up ordering garlic naan instead. Ma’am piled with garlic and cilantro – yum! I just wish they would deliver!

I have been here often because it’s only about 6 blocks from my house. When I went there two weeks ago, I was the only customer there, around 1:15pm The rice was dry. The naan was dry. I was not offered a drink besides besides water — AGAIN. They didn’t remove my first buffet dish. They never refilled my water, and that was all I had to drink. I normally leave a 20% tip. This time I left $ 12.00, and the bill(which they didn’t give me — AGAIN) would have come to about $ 11.50. I have seen them bring cups of tea to tables. They have never done that for me, and still I would leave a good tip. I won’t be back. I will drive out of my way to get my monthly Indian fix

Truly the very best Indian food Milwaukee has to offer. Believe it. Heaven on a plate. I have been to(supposedly) great Indian restaurants in New York City where I could not taste the food because my mouth was burning so badly. Not so at Royal India. Although they will cook food as spicy as you like, I always order medium spiciness and although the heat is definitely there, the savory masalas and curries are never compromised.

The Tikka Masala and the naan. Oh my goodness. Everything we have tried has been great!

Great food just what I was hoping clean restaurant service puts it at a 4 instead of 5 because waiter was rather short and quiet but that’s ok definetly will go back and cure my Indian food cravings

I’ve gotten take out three times from Royal India. Each time, it’s been fantastic. We’ve ordered Palak Paneer, Channa Masala, and Chicken Makhani. I couldn’t recommend each of them more. I could eat the Chicken Makhani every day of the week and twice on Sunday. It’s that wonderful. Royal India has been added to our regular rotation, and their food is one of the better ways to spend dinner.

I went with a friend for lunch and we got incredibly lousy service even though it wasn’t busy. The waiter never even took our drink order or offered us menus — he just said«buffet» like it was a directive. Yet, I noticed that he was providing great service to the other tables. What was the difference? We were the only ladies in the place.

This is one of the better Indian restaurants in the area in my opinion. The $ 10 lunch buffet is about as you would expect. It has a decent selection of vegetarian dishes(Saag paneer, Dahl, Fried and white rice) and meat dishes(Goat curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Tandori Chicken) as well as a few desserts and salad. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Mushroom Muter were the best I’ve ever had. I would come back just for those. The Lassi drinks are not as good as those I have had elsewhere, so skip those and go for the Chai or Masala tea.

Eww. The end of this review includes the details of why we found this place so disgusting. But this first portion is an evaluation before«the incident». I got a weird vibe from the server, he nicely folded and laid out my partner’s napkin but then threw mine down onto the table, unfolded. He handed my partner a menu first, looked at him first to order, and gave him 99.9% of the eye contact. My partner is male. I also noticed the food runner said«here you are, sir» with me sitting right there. It was weird. The food itself sadly was made up of frozen vegetables. Lacking in flavor and imagination. The saag paneer was pretty good, but the vegetable curry was very bad — all frozen veggies that did not absorb any flavor. The naan was good. Now, for the gross part that ruined the evening. Don’t read on if you are squeamish. Nearly done with dinner, I walked to the rest room. Mid-way there, right in the main dining room, I ran across our server(the one with the strange attitude and behavior toward me) knuckle-deep in a nose pick. There is no room for Seinfeld ambiguity here. He had to be getting close to his brain. We were supposed to get dessert with the vegetarian dinner for two we ordered, but I wasn’t going to eat another thing there. Unacceptable! If he is willing to full out pick his nose in the dining room, imagine what he does when he thinks no one is watching.

I’ve been here about four times now and I figure this place is worth a review. Tucked into a tiny shopping center with a liquor store, this place is easy to miss. That’s a real shame because it’s one of the few places to eat on 27th Street that is(A) good, and(B) not a giant chain. The ambiance is really unusual juxtaposed to the world outside. Outside, you’ve got cars going by, garbage blowing across the street, usually some guy standing outside of the liquor store looking vaguely buzzed. Inside, spotless. Plain, fresh white tablecloths, a carpet that looks perpetually brand-new, chairs and counters that don’t have so much as a chip in them. I always feel a little bit underdressed. The service is decent enough. They are efficient and as polite as they need to be. There aren’t any pretenses here. The food itself is pretty good. It’s a bit lightly spiced compared to a lot of Indian food that I’ve had, but it’s got excellent flavor. By that I mean that the vindaloo might have a bit of kick, but it’s not going to burn your tongue up even if you order it hot. What they do really well is their kormas – they’re sweet and have a delicious complex flavor to them. I have also been quite happy with their tandoori selections. I’d definitely recommend it for dinner. The lunch buffet is still on my to-do list.

Not too shabby. I came here with my family as a birthday treat for my mom(mom picked Indian food, dad picked this specific location) and it wasn’t bad at all. The place was large enough to accommodate the five of us for lunch and then some — pretty spacious, with a buffet in the back. We didn’t know it when we sat down, but the lunch buffet was just about to end(we made it inside of 30 minutes or so), but they still greeted us with a smile and were welcoming, not rushed. The buffet had all the basics from tandoori chicken to lamb and goat curries and the naan was really good(not too buttery, just enough). Desserts were sort of sad, but I guess that is to be expected when the buffet is coming to a close. Still, there was a nice fruit spread that made up for it, While none of the food really knocked me out of the park(please note that everything is also extremely mild with little spice, which is a no-no for me — I need soooooooome KICK!), it was all solid enough and good enough for a lunch with family or friends. We capped off the meal with traditional Indian tea which was really the highlight of the meal, to be honest… perfectly made. Plus, since the waiter had already brought us the bill before we were able to order the tea, he gave it to us complimentary instead of taking the bill back and adjusting. I’ll take that any day. All in all, a solid place for a lunch buffet. I would try it out again for dinner and get a singular entrée instead though and see how they do with that.

Indian ranks up there as one of my favorite types of cuisine. And since Milwaukee doesn’t have a ton of Indian restaurants around, this place gets 3 easy stars right off the bat. The interior is pleasant, spacious and clean. Sure, it’s nothing too spectacular but it’s inviting and comfortable nevertheless. The service was ok. We chose the buffet option so we didn’t need much assistance ordering. The buffet was solid when it came to variety: tikki masala, lamb and goat curry, chicken tandoori, biryani, etc. My only complaint was that they dumb down the spices quite a bit. Nothing… I mean nothing had the flavor or spiciness that Indian food is so popular for. Side note: After you eat, be sure to drink some chai Indian-style tea with cinnamon and cardamon. It’s a great way to unwind after a heavy meal and their version here is exceptionally good.

After two years living near London, I know a bit about curries. Not a lot, but a bit. And when I had a curry craving in Milwaukee, I let Unilocal bring me to Royal India. I had also searched«buffet» but it turns out that it’s only available for lunch and not for dinner. I was(again!) the only person in the restaurant. This always seems a bit odd but I stuck it out rather than turn and leave. I had a very simple order. Cheese pakora to start(you Wisconsinites might compare them to cheese curds), and for main, lamb curry, cheese naan and riata. The timing of the meal was good, considering that I was the only person here they were able to pace it out well so that I was only just about to finish the starter when the entrée arrived. The naan was excellent. Probably the best part of the meal. It was fresh and crispy and doughy just the way naan bread should be. The curry was good. I had asked for medium spice and I got medium spice. It was still quite hot, temperature-wise but a scoop of the riata(which is a yogurt side dish) cooled it well. The chunks of lamb, though, let down the side. I found them to be nicely cooked but fatty. So the flavor was there but the good just weren’t.

About once a year, I get this big time craving for Indian Food. I have been to a couple of places on the East Side of Milwaukee which were good, but the Unilocal reviews for Royal India could not be ignored. So we made the drive over to the south side to fill our bellies full of Indian Food. We started out with the Samosas. The exterior was light and crispy, not greasy at all. The filling was piping hot, but the flavors were so good that I was willing the risk of burning my tongue. For our meals we ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, and the Aloo Palak. The garlic naan was light and crispy but still with a bit of chewiness to it and I used it to sop up my sauce from the Chicken Tikka Masala. They give pretty big portions and was happy to take home some leftovers for lunch the next day. I also had the indian tea and it was delicious. It is kind of like a chai tea if I need to compare it to something, but lighter. Services was good, but it was just us and another table in there. I like that my water glass was always full and that they exchanged out the dirty plates with clean ones. I think they do a lot of carry out business and also thinking they are pretty busy for their lunch buffet(which I can’t wait to go back and try). I have been raving about this place to my friends since our visit.

Unfamiliar with Indian /Pakistani Food? Let Royal India introduce you to it. They key to a happy marriage is to never stop trying to make your spouse happy. My wife’s love of subcontinental cuisine is well known but I had resisted it for 10 years based on a few poor experiences early on in our relationship. I agreed to give it a try if my wife agreed to take me to someplace where there will be something«not too Indian» that I could eat. To Royal India we went… Several visits later; each time ordering something more and more«Indian,» I will now agree to go out for Indian food any day of the week. My go-to selections are usually tandoori chicken, tikka masala, or kaftka kabobs. Garlic naan and daal chana washed down with a mango laasi are always a must. I even have been known to visit during their lunch buffet for endless amounts of my favorites. I’ve never been a fan of curry. It smells too much like dirty feet. I still feel that way, but I have now realized that there is more to Indian food than curry. It’s probably this revelation that has led me to explore Pakistani food which tends to be more meat based. The restaurant was remodeled a few years ago and now has an upscale feel to it. One thing that has never changed is the upscale service. Whether you visit for the lunch buffet or for dinner, you can always been assured of snappy, friendly, and informative service and most importantly, a very clean dining room Thanks Royal India for opening me up to a whole new cuisine. After all, 1.2 billion Indians can’t be wrong!
