Get the bahn mi sandwich! This place seems a little shady from the outside, and the inside isn’t much better, but it’s worth it for the sandwich. When we arrived there were a few people eating, but we waited up front for about 5 minutes before we saw an employee. Once we were seated the service was pretty quick though. The sandwich is huge, and it’s packed with charbroiled pork and other toppings. The marinade on the pork is really flavorful and the charbroiled taste adds an extra dimension of flavor. The bread is also pretty decent– the outside is slightly toasted so the bread is nice and crispy, yet soft in the inside. I can’t attest to the other items on the menu, but I’ll definitely be back for the bahn mi sandwich!

Dac Biet Xe Lua(#1) Phở: Special combo phở. It’s served with rare sliced steak, brisket, tendon, trip, and meatballs. It’s about $ 10 a bowl, but it’s expected since there aren’t a lot of phở restaurants in WI. However, the broth is excellent and the portions of noodles and meat are good. Definitely good enough to keep us coming back. Special Fried Rice, Com Chien Duong Chau(#58): Fried rice served with shrimp, pork, and chicken. Good portion and good texture. We did have to add soy sauce and chili pepper to kick it up a notch. This is not a knock on the cook. I think my girlfriend and I just have salty taste buds.

I eat here at least once a month, sometimes three times a month for lunch. This is the best Vietnamese in the Milwaukee area, in my opinion for phở, pork sandwich and spring rolls. Today was the first time I had Phở #1 that was«off». It had noticeable grease floating and was missing the earthy spice flavors. I added extra chili garlic paste, a little hoisin sauce and even black pepper. It was not horrible and actually tasted fresh, so thinking it may not have simmered as long as usual. Today’s soup is typical of some of the other restaurants who serve phở. I didn’t say anything to the owner as she was interacting with a service technician during my visit. I’m guessing she was just pre-occupied.

As much as they do have good food, their service sucks and is not sure if it is worth the wait. The restaurant had less than 5 tables — all of which were eating or had ordered and we still waited 10 min after being seated before we were waited on. I think 10 min is too long before you are greeted and offered a drink, especially WITHOUT an apology of the wait. The meal came up fairly quickly once we were able to place our order… but then the same thing happened when trying to get our check. Work staff was monkeying around with their karaōke system and we were ignored until we stood up and walked to the counter.

The banh mi is delicious! I normally order carry out and haven’t had any issues with the service. They always get my order right and the food is tasty.

1st time having Vietnamese food. Took my son who is a picky eater and he gave it a thumbs up. I was a bit concerned going in as no one else was in the restaurant but since it was a Monday I figured I would give it a shot. Had deep fried calamari as an appetizer and was happy they served it with jalapeños which I liked. My son had some sort of shrimp soup with thin rice noodles and I had a beef dish that came with the noodles and a tasty salad. Place is outdated but not a big deal. Glad I tried it, will definitely go back.

If I could give it a negative, I would. First of all the phở wasn’t as good as it used to be. Secondly, the service wasn’t all that great. It took a while to get menus and our water. The water tasted weird and we found a COCKROACH in our water cup!!! Nasty!!!

The food itself was amazing but the last two times I went in there. The debit and credit cards I used were hit real hard with fraud it’s shame because this was the first place that reminded me of the good Vietnamese food I used to get in California.

Just to be clear… this place MAY have good food, but I never found out. Stopped in around 11:30 for lunch and I struck by how DIRTY everything looked. There was no one in the restaurant and half the tables were dirty. The rug looked like it hadn’t seen a vacuum in a few WEEKS. The fishtank was 1⁄3 empty and pretty gross-looking. When my wife arrived to meet she walked in and looked at me and shook her head. She said«no way» and we left. If the part of the restaurant that YOUKNOW everyone is going to see is left gross and filthy, imagine what the parts of the restaurant that they think you will NEVER see look like. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it.

This place is the best Vietnamese cuisine in town. The #43 — Charbroiled pork over rice vermicelli and vegetables and two tasty egg rolls — is one of the best meals on the planet. Never crowded and always super fast. Please go and check them out.

MAN! I really wanted to love this place. Bubble tea at Hue is better. Phở at Phan’s Palace is better. Banh mi at Bavette and other places is better. Nothing is bad, I enjoy the place but it’s just not the go-to for anything. The«Bun» is normally fantastic(cold noodles w/grilled meat). Great place for a large party. Also great for to-go orders(especially on a lazy Sunday). Locals and neighborhood folks like it. I’ll keep going back but I bet it’s a fun place for live music on busy nights.

I haven’t had time to sit down here and eat. I will though and do follow up review. I have only ordered the #71 togo sometimes. That sandwich will change your life!

I’m breaking up with you, Phở Hai Tuyet. Your food is good, especially your unusual banh mi, but I just can’t subject myself to your terrible service any longer. Food comes out at all different times, servers are just clueless and you never know if you’re going to get forgotten about, or purposely ignored. The last straw was using an Entertainment book coupon last year. Got some schpiel about how that was the«previous owner» that put that in the book and that they can only give 20% off the bill instead of buy one get one. Well, ok fine. She handled it very awkwardly and rudely, but I understand these situations occur, and I still got money off. But then we buy this year’s book… Guess who’s still in it, with exactly the same coupon??? Give me a break. With all the other service issues, the food just isn’t worth it anymore. I’m not really sure the ownership here respects their customers.

The food was okay, but not the best. Phở Cali on 27th is better. Waitstaff left a little something to be desired. Table was really shaky too, had to move or would have been wearing my soup. We went there today 1÷14÷15 with our BRANDNEW2015 Entertainment Book, that had two coupons in it for this restaurant. We normally go to Phở Cali or Phở King, but because we had the coupon we went a little further to try this place. They would not honor it! They said it was the OLDOWNER’S coupons! The book has only been out 14 days! Rude! Won’t go back. Still recommend Phở Cali on 27th.

Goddamnit, Phở Hai Tuyet. No, seriously, goddamnit! I keep wanting to rate you higher. I keep coming back to you for your delicious food, hoping«this will be the time I can bump them up.» I took a date here last night. She’s been a little sheltered in the food department, so to help break her out of it I decided – sorta on a whim – to take her here. I finally got to try that banh mi. It was orgasmic. Honestly, one of the best sandwiches I’ve had anywhere. It was huge, and it was loaded! …And then my date found a few long, wiry hairs in her stir-fry dish. Son of a bitch. And the beautiful fishtank is still sitting sad and empty, too!

«Everything I do, I do it for you.» This place is both an aural and an oral treat. The music playing in the background consists of all kinds of romantic, sappy, cheesy love songs from the 80s-90s. It definitely transported me to another time. Who would expect that when going to a restaurant for some phở? In terms of the food, got to try the vermicelli dish and the phở. Both were quite tasty in their own rights. I haven’t had the chance to try other vietnamese places in the area, so I can’t say whether it is the best phở in town or not. What I can say, is that the contents of the bowl contains all the right ingredients that a restaurant style should have — steak that cooks in the broth, tripe, tendon, and then all the fixins on the sides(sprouts, mint, etc). «Don’t tell me, its not worth trying for, can’t tell me, it’s not worth dying for.» In terms of the ambience, the restaurant was pretty empty when I went there. It is unfortunate, as the emptiness can lend itself to an awkward vibe. But I guess I was too in the zone with the music and the phở to even care. I saw there was a karaōke stage, for some purpose, I know not. The outside of the building reminds me of something that used to be a fast food joint, but I don’t know what. In summary, if you are in the mood for some nostalgia and phở at the same time, this is your best bet.

At a Unilocal event not too long ago, I was literally ordered to go here. Not requested. Not suggested. A Unilocaler said«Go to Phở Hai Tuyet!» Okay, okay, it took me a couple of weeks but I finally made it. Well worth the decision. I wish I had been with someone because each of the entrees was too big to share. The bowls of Phở looked like little swimming pools full of goodness. But it was the 71 sandwich that I was told to order. Fortunately, the menu has numbers, so I didn’t have to try and translate«sliced pork sandwich» from Vietnamese because I would have ended up ordering my grandmother’s shoes. When it arrived, I knew right off that the sliced peppers had to go. One they were safely out of the way of obliterating my taste buds, I sliced it in half and dug in. Great texture with fresh cilantro and sliced cucumber and tender spicy pork plus I think peanuts. Delish! I had it with a Chinese beer, Tsing Tao. It’s not Vietnamese, but it’ll do.

I was thrilled to find out that they opened this location when I found out that the 27th St location closed a while ago — I had gone to the 27th St location and was a fan of the food there and had missed going to the place. The service was very good — they were very attentive. They took our orders in a timely fashion and had refilled our water on a regular basis. The food came out quickly and it was very good. I had the phở and it was just like how my Hmong friends made it — it was super yummy! The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, which I am happy about. I am definitely going back!

I went to their previous location on 27th street, which I liked much better. Also, that location was always full of Vietnamese customers, which is usually a sign that the food is authentic. This Layton location was mostly hefty white people so I’m not sure if they have Americanized the food for the new clientelle. The ambiance is nothing to write home about, it clearly used to be some sort of fast food restaurant like Wendy’s. It definitely feels like a cafeteria. I found the menu to be overwhelming. There are SOOOO many options but they are so similar to each other that it doesn’t really even seem worth offering them. For instance, what is the difference between mixed vegetables with rice noodles and the pan fried rice noodles with mixed vegetables? My waitress couldn’t tell me either. She simply read the two options to me, as though I couldn’t read myself. The service sucked. Initially, I thought the waitress was really friendly but she never came to refill our water and we had to ask for the check. I won’t fault her for not knowing all the differences between the 2 million menu options, but if she is not sure, she should go ask the chef instead of just reading the two names to me like I am a child. I made clear that I was vegetarian so when my food came out with what looked like may be fried shrimp, I asked her what they were. She said she didn’t know. I requested that she ask because I am vegan and I want to confirm they aren’t shrimp. She then said«well don’t you know what you ordered? it was in the vegetable section.» Wow. Terrible service! She then said she hadn’t worked there long(and I don’t think she should work there much longer) so she went to ask. Turns out they were fried garlic or onions(still not sure). The fried noodles and vegetables with tofu were really boring. It was also really annoying that they charge $ 3 extra for tofu. Why does a tofu-veg dish end up costing more than a meat dish? Poorly designed menu. My brother-in-law liked his phở(his first time trying Vietnamese) but he was also incredibly disappointed with the services so we likely won’t be back.
