I’ve had some pretty good food here in the 9 – 10 times I’ve been here. The décor is a bit on the Day of the Dead runs a Nightclub side but the freshness of the food and the fairly good service always compensated for anything lacking in ambience or décor. But the bummer now is not knowing if the are really open for business or not. There was a post on the Bayview Neighborhood Facebook page in mid-September that said there was a note on the door indicating they were closed through the end of the month for fall break. They may have opened a day or two in early October and now, as of October 10 the places is looking pretty desolate. A phone book(they were delivered in this neighborhood at least a week ago) sits in the doorway. Errant UPS delivery post it notes line the doors and all is dark inside. It’s really too bad that they appear to be closed and neither their facebook page nor the door to the establishment offer any clues. Given that this is prime real estate in downtown Bayview. And a Thai or Japanese restaurant would be a very welcome sight I certainly hope this place doesn’t become an eyesore!

I’m pretty bummed giving this place only a few stars. My husband and I came here for the first time a few weeks ago. It was awesome! Totally 5 stars(as my husband’s review indicates). The waiter we had was super attentive and went out of his way to assure we had an enjoyable meal. Now fast forward to out latest visit. It was a Sat after the lunchtime. We asked to be seated outside. We were the only ones here, so we assumed we’d have quick and efficient service. To start –The waitress handed us the menu’s and let us find our own seating. Hmmm Ok. Next we asked for a blended margarita that we had tried our last visit and loved. Apparently they couldn’t make the blended version, they were out of something. Ok. Then we asked for the phenomenal pico that was served with the chips last visit. Apparently they were also out of this… Sigh. Ok. We ordered the ceviche which had all the ingredients that would go into the pico. So I was a little disappointed they couldn’t have made more pico for us when we asked for it at the beginning. I had also ordered a soda at the beginning of the meal. I asked for it again 20 min into our wait and after receiving our appetizer. I Didn’t receive an answer and Thought she maybe she didn’t hear me. I Asked again when she came out the second time to refill our salsa. And she said she was still waiting on it. Deep sigh. Okayyyyy. I’m not sure what sure was waiting on, she didn’t really make that clear. So I cancelled that. She was kind enough to leave a pitcher of water on the table so that we could refill our drinks. Now this is what did upset me. After receiving our ceviche and placing our order(20 mins in) the waitress informed us the credit card machine was down and we’d have to pay cash. I wish she had informed us when we arrived or prior to ordering. Finally, the food. My husband ordered the owners special(amazing the first time we had it!) it was something completely different! All out dishes had cold rice and the steak was dry and chewy. At the end my husband mentioned it was different than our first experience. She took our feedback regarding the food, hopefully that feedback will go somewhere. I’m just not sure what happened. This was to be our go to Mexican place! I’m not sure if we’ll be back soon, maybe for dinner since our experience was better during that time.

I love bayview and this is one more reason to hang here. Cool day of the dead(dios de Los muertos) theme. Intimate space. Now the food: I had the lunch special. Molé is my favorite sauce and it was how they served the enchilada. Simply perfect! Also had a pork burrito which was really enjoyable too. We also got fajitas which were great as well. Tasty chicken in a unique balsamic sauce. Kudos to chef. Very unique. Friendly and local = awesome. Tip: get a groupon and enjoy!

Delicious Mexican food delivered to my door? Yes, please! Thus far I’ve only sampled the wares via delivery, so I can’t speak to the ambiance of this establishment, but the food, my friends, is yummy. I tried the vegetarian burrito with green enchilada sauce. Per the menu, I understand this would come smothered in sauce at the restaurant, but my sauce came on the side so the tortilla wouldn’t disintegrate by the time I started eating. I LOVED the sauce. It has just a little sweetness which I think is unique. The beans weren’t my favorite, but I mixed them with the rice and liked them a bit better. Husband ordered pork enchiladas with red sauce and devoured them in minutes. I tried a little of his sauce and liked it, but not as much as the green stuff. He had the same opinion of the beans. Excited to have a new delivery option in Bayview.

The chef from when they opened is back. Rice and beans recipe is updated and still pretty good. Key change is more cilantro in the cilantro rice. Also new is the Wednesday Night Wing Night which launched last week. Flavors include Fajita Mojo, Mole Modelo, Patron Lime Verde, Mango Mezcal, Chipotle BBQ, and Tapatios Hot Sauce. I ordered a split of Patron Lime Verde and Mango Mezcal. The lime and mango flavors were very subtle, but overall flavor was very good. Part of the cooking processing is char grilling the wings, which I could distinctly taste and was a great surprise! Looking forward to see future tweeks to the menu.

I’m a snob when it comes to Mexican food but have to say this is one of the top places in Milwaukee. Everything on the menu is delicious and fresh

Mr Webo’s is a nice little not so typical Mexican restaurant in the heart of hipsterland Bay View. I came here for dinner on a Sunday, and was surprised how empty the place was. They have an interesting outdoor area which almost seems like a patio in someone’s back yard. The chips and salsa were similar to Bel Aire with 3 strange sauces, 2 of the 3 sauces I didn’t like. I ordered the Tacos to be safe and they came relatively quick. The margarita’s appeared to be small but they apparently tasted great. To my surprise the tacos didn’t have any cheese on them, instead a ton of cilantro and lettuce — almost too much. Unsure if I could enjoy a taco without cheese, I took a bite and realized I could. The meat was quality and the tacos had a great flavor to them. The person I was with ordered fish tacos which were very very good. The rice was average and the beans were seasoned in a way where they tasted strange. I was not a fan. The prices were very fair compared to other popular Mexican restaurants. Even with hardly anyone dining there, the décor and atmosphere was really cool. They have a 10 foot large skeleton hanging above the dining area. Would I come back to Mr Webo’s? Sure. But I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

I was looking for a place to eat on the way home from picking up my wife from school. I came here on the promise of fish tacos and Mr. Webo’s didn’t disappoint. The meal started with the traditional but not so traditional chips and salsa here. I appreciate the chips being warm and the interesting salsas and pico that came with the chips. I loved the sweet-yet-spicy orange salsa(the server told me the ingredients and I forgot). We ended up ordering a side of Guacamole and it was among the best I’ve had at any restaurant. Our server said it is made as it’s ordered and it sure tasted like it. Speaking of our server, she was full of info and awesome. It’s too bad it was her last night on the job. Anyways, on to dinner and since it was Taco Tuesday, I gladly ordered the All You Can Eat Fish Taco. These tacos were absolutely incredible. Lightly battered and fried pieces of Tilapia with cabbage and this awesome sauce that seemed like avocado, sour cream and Jalapeño mixed together on a flour tortilla. I pounded down these tacos so fast I forgot I had ordered a small chimichanga. A lot of restaurants have troubles balancing out the meat and cheese in a chimi, but Mr. Webo’s has it down to a science. I enjoyed the little chunks of chicken breast as the cheese stretched so far I had to ask the sever what kind of cheese they use(it’s Chihuahua). The cilantro rice had a little too much cilantro for my taste and the beans were a little too watery for my liking, but in the long run that didn’t matter because I was stuffed on everything else. I will definitely be back.

Yesterday was Bay View Gallery Night and although my party of 4 were planning on actually looking at more art, we missed the rest of the night due to extremely slow service and mediocre food. They were obviously very busy around 7pm and they sat us outside on the back patio. That probably should have been our first warning; servers tend to forget everyone outside. How long does it take to make tacos for 2, enchiladas, and nachos? Apparently 90 minutes from our order time to delivery. C’mon, this is really bad service and food preparation time. I’m not expecting such a long wait for lukewarm food that had been sitting out for a massively long time(my friend ordered nachos and there were globs of cheese stuck on the chips; not the just-melted-stick, more like congealed and forgotten kind). Our waitress didn’t even bother to check up on us to update us on the status of our food during the 90 minute wait. We had to flag down another server who was picking up dishes to refill our water. Then the waitress brought my friend tacos that she didn’t order, and then she brought back only 1 taco, and then took only a few minutes to get the fixed tacos. Oh yeah, no silverware brought over either. By the end of the night, we were mostly full from our complimentary chips and salsa and packed up half of our meals. Apparently, everyone in Bayview knows not to go there? If you’re looking for Mexican food, just walk over to Guanajuato(GTO) instead. I wish I asked my friend or consulted Unilocal before going there for dinner and wasting my night there.

I was born and raised on the Mexican border with Belize. And for the first time in the years I have been in Milwaukee, this is the first time I have had good, real, kick ass Mexican food. Those fish tacos though… Thank you guys at Mr Webo’s, I tip my hat to you.

Descriptive phrase: fresh takes on traditional Mexican. Mr. WEBO’s is an eclectic place inside, but nice(save for the bathrooms). I started with El Machete($ 7, shot of tequila in a Corona), and ordered Mr. Webo’s Signature Tacos for dinner($ 9.95). Out came 3 sizable tacos next to plenty of Mexican rice and re-fried beans. The beans and rice were both good, but the tacos were the centerpiece. The unique combo of scrambled egg, just-slightly-tangy chorizo, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, and avocado mixed together surprisingly well. They were the perfect portion size, and I’d certainly order that dish again.

We had a very good experience here on a Friday night. We came in around 8 and there was only one other table filled. The inside got a remodel from the last place and looks much better. The name doesn’t make a lot of sense, but the experience was a good one. The menu is small compared to many other local Mexican restaurants. Vegetarian items are clearly labeled, which is fantastic and doesn’t have me guessing if lard was used. Our table ordered enchiladas, burrito, and fajitas. Complimentary chips and salsa arrived nearly immediately and were refilled. House margarita was quite good, with a generous portion served in a mason jar. My enchiladas were absolutely the best of any I have ever had. The cheese was creamy and the right amount, the onions were cooked perfectly, and both the red and green sauces were GREAT, absolutely positively the best. Clearly made in-house and from quality ingredients. I couldn’t decide between the green and red sauce so the server suggested I do half and half, so glad I did. The beans and rice that came with the meal were awesome. The best I have had. Everything tasted fresh. The fajitas my brother ordered got high marks from him too. Needs Improvement: Overall it seemed clean enough, but the bathrooms need help. The tables have slots in them due to the decorations and food stuff falls in and is irretrievable. A good vacuum might temporarily stave off problems but these tables need glass covers ASAP. Everything considered, I will be returning again, and recommending this place — — particularly to vegetarians. This joint earns a spot in my Best Things I’ve Eaten list for awesome vegetarian enchiladas.

This review is based on service or entirely lake thereof. Showed up about 12:305÷6÷14 the place was abandoned but the door was open. Went inside waited a moment and then called out to get someones attention. No response. About 5 mins latter we were standing out outside in front consulting Unilocal for where to go next when a Lady walks up, snuffs a cigerette out right in front of us and walks in. Since she was wearing an apron and went in the back of the establishment so I cal only assume she was an employee.
Shame I wasted mony buying a living social deal as I definetly will not be returning. We went just down the street to Guanajuato Mexican resteraunt and had a great meal. They were quite busy.

We came here on a Saturday evening, craving Mexican food but having grown weary of the restaurants on 5th Street. In short, we were pleasantly surprised. Mr. Webo’s is small, with a small kitchen and limited seating. Making things more interesting when we arrived was what looked like a family of at least 15 taking up the majority of the tables. Fortunately, the bartender – who may have been the owner but definitely was in charge that night – saw us standing awkwardly near the door and directed us to a couple empty chairs at the bar. Unfortunately the family of 15 got their orders in before us, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food. We won’t fault Mr. Webo’s for that, especially since sitting at the bar gives you a full view of the kitchen, which we noticed was occupied by only 1 [very busy] cook. We waited patiently while munching on chips and salsa. At least the chips were warm. We don’t think they were homemade but we didn’t care. We were given 3 salsas that were a step above your run-of-the-mill tomato-based salsas. Our food, when it arrived, was excellent. I had a chicken burrito and was happy to find it wasn’t saturated with cheese, nor did it contain needless filler ingredients like rice. My husband went with the signature(chorizo & egg) tacos. He liked them but thought they were perhaps better suited as a breakfast dish. The rice & beans were both excellent, not to mention homemade. Portion sizes were more than adequate. Prices were reasonable – with the Groupon, it was a downright bargain. We only have 2 negatives from our visit. Going to the tiny restrooms was a little treacherous, due to a few factors: 1. Kids from the party of 15 running around 2. The fact that they all apparently had to «go» at the same time, which resulted in lines 3. A men’s room door that did not close Obviously we won’t blame Mr. Webo’s for #1 and 2, but they really should fix #3. Aside from that, the only other negative was a limited beer selection. Given that the bar takes up nearly half the available space, we were surprised they didn’t carry Dos Equis Amber. Overall though, we enjoyed our visit and plan to return.

How about a twist to our Wisconsin tradition: Mexify your Fish Fry! The choriso has officially been a Miller Park Sausage for some time now… Let’s continue the assimilation of our cultures :) And as good as the fish tacos are at Mr. Webos,(pronounced WEB — O not weee-bo) I am ready to rotate them in when Friday(or any day) rolls ’round and I’m feeling the need for fish! They are freshly prepared topped with very delicate slaw and better than I imagined they’d taste(because of past experiences at other places). From the beginning: Upon entering the unassuming café like feel of Mr. Webo’s you’ll receive the standard chips but what is not standard are the three salsas that accompany the chips. The pico de gallo has big vegetable chunks including sliced cactus — Bonus! The second is more of your standard type of salsa, spicy but the heat dissipates quickly. And the third and most unique is a habanero salsa but with a sweet edge from added honey. How can something so conflicting sounding be so great?! I can only guess it’s like the sweet salty marriage… Except this is sweet heat. It was great with the fish tacos, as well(as I kept pouring it atop my bites). The beans were probably the best I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant. You can tell that there is really a lot of work going on with them to get them seasoned right. Most joints just slap a runny, lighter brown mess on the plate. Totally not the case at Webo’s and as a bean lover myself — I very much appreciate the special attention. The rice was whiter but with cilantro. Fresh herbs are always a plus. Basic but also well seasoned. In fact I would sum up the food in general as spicy, but not heat lingering. Personally, that’s the way I love it to be. I’ve read some of the reviews about the wait and service issues. But let’s think about this: do you want precooked or easy to prepare processed food or would you wait a bit longer for fresher food? I hope most would choose the latter. There is enough garbage food out there so go ahead to Applebee’s if you must. Especially Elite Unilocalers should know better that fresher food takes longer and is always worth it to have real food. I complain too when I have to wait and I’m appreciative when my Unilocal family corrects me by saying«But was it fresh?!»(shout out to Rick R!) As for service, etc. This place is still a baby not even yet to toddler stage. Tonight was one month beyond the one year mark for Mr. Webo’s and I would say it was pretty damn good and I want them to stick around for years to come. If people agree, you need to appreciate it for what it’s worth and keep stopping through. Lose the ‘tude, relax an have some Mexican food that’s different than the standard and is freshly made. I’m excited to try the patio in summer! And the owner was taking to us in length about all of the other worthy remodeling changes that he wants to make in the near future. I hope that we can all see that some to fruition! I’ll be back!

I’ve been here a few times and the food and service have been fantastic. It’s usually quite empty which I find odd; maybe it’s the location, or odd name, or that the interior could use some sprucing up(except the lovely mural, of course). I most recently had the chiles rellenos which had a fantastic, light and crispy batter. They were filled with cheese and chorizo, a nice addition. Their beans and rice have always been fresh and very flavorful. I’ve also had the tostada, which was surprisingly good, delicious chicken and fresh vegetables. I’ve tasted both the pork and steak burritos and I would recommend the pork, really delicious. I would also recommend the jalepenos rellenos appetizer, same light crispy batter as the chiles and filled with pork, chorizo and cheese, very good! It seems like the salsa is different each time I go, which I enjoy.

Mr. Webo’s is adequate — not a very compelling description, but«adequate» is really the only fitting adjective. I’ve been to Webo’s twice with the Groupon($ 10 for $ 20). The food is not very flavorful; very little spice(I’ve tried a burrito and the tacos). It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t especially good. I wanted it to be! But I couldn’t will it to be. I haven’t tried the margaritas and if they’re still selling the Groupon, I’d consider buying one to go back and try one. That said, I wouldn’t eat again at Webo’s without the Groupon. We only returned a second time for the all-you-can-eat tacos. I live in Bay View so the location was also a plus. That said, the service has always been great, and I wish I could bump my review up to 3.5 stars for that. Very friendly and attentive staff. I just wish the food packed more punch.

Mr. Webo’s has become my go-to spot for lunch with my parents. While my dad is hoarding Groupon deals for other places in town, we’ve been here a handful of times on his dime and I cannot complain. The servers are always friendly and the food is fresh. The chips are homemade, but perhaps a little too greasy which mom and dad enjoy. I like the fact that you get a variety of salsa — the pico is perfectly chunky while the mango is nice and spicy. I’ve done the tostadas every time and prefer the pork, I don’t know how they do it but it’s the best tasting pork in town. They are served with standard lettuce, tomato and cilantro with an avocado on top. Better yet, the order of three sends me back to work with an after-lunch.

So, I’ll preface this with saying that I overheard they have no dishwasher working this evening, which was unexpected and hurting the kitchen. That sucks for everyone. Unfortunately for me, I was dining solo and not as cute as the girls next to me or the baseball game on tv. So I need to get pretty, and fast. I ended up being forgotten after I ordered. Which was okay, thanks to having a phone to occupy my time. I did end up getting chips and water after the girls next to me reminded him that he hadn’t brought them for any of us. Which ended up being the same when it came to water. The bartender had a habit of making one drink at a time, but I don’t think it was his fault really. He was coming out to clear tables(while the pretty and chatty server prettily chatted with a couple at the bar) and was spending time in the kitchen washing dishes. Dude was working. He just wasn’t getting help. Eventually she jumped in a bit, but, meh, the damage was already done. Aside from the service drag, the food was okay. I liked the chips, but the salsas weren’t anything spectacular. They had flavor but were very light. Tacos(the special on Mondays) were okay, especially given the price, and the burritos eaten by the girls next to me looked like they were decently substantial, but they didn’t seem too impressed with the taste. In all, it seems like an okay place, if not lively. And I realize that I keep saying«okay» about everything. I guess that’s about all it comes down to. I wouldn’t turn down the idea of coming back, but with such competition between a couple other nearby locations, this would place third for me.

This is the second lunch visit I have made here and the second time I have had trouble using a Groupon or coupon. The $ 20.00 Groupon didn’t specify that I could not use it with their lunch special. The waiter offered us the lunch special price because our order would have been over $ 30.00 and then took back that offer and told us we would have to order full price items. By this time I was pretty mad. We ended up getting a combination platter each. Both were excellent. The only thing that may keep us from coming back is all the trouble we have gone through which is unfortunate. Please word your coupons or Groupons better. I specifically contacted Groupon and they told me this Groupon was good on any menu items.
