MKE Shears

I went to MKE Shears on Friday, October 16^th for a blow dry. I was in town from LA for a wedding and needed a place to go for a blow out. I looked on Unilocal and saw the great reviews of this place, which was near to where the wedding was, so I booked an appointment.
Let me reiterate that: I. BOOKED. AN. APPOINTMENT.
I reconfirmed my appointment via text.
A confirmation email for my appointment was sent the day before.
The online booking system made it super easy. I was set. No hassle. Great!
Until I walked in 3 minutes prior to my appointment at 11:00am only to see that Neven was shampooing someone else. Definitely not me. Even though I was the one with an appointment with him at 11:00am.
Hmpf.
I told him I had an appointment with him. To which he asked if I was in a rush. (Does it matter?) Normally, I am the most super relaxed person, but I had to get to a wedding ceremony! So, yes, Neven, I am in a rush.
He made some phone calls and told me someone was on their way. No reason as to why someone else was sitting in the chair that I should have been. (Did you accidentally double book? Or did you really think I wasn’t going to show on a confirmed appointment? Or did you think I wouldn’t mind? Did you think you could seriously squeak a shampoo and haircut in 5 minutes before my appointment? What was it?)
I’m not into confrontation, so I sat there seething and figuring out how I needed to rearrange my schedule prior to the ceremony to fix this situation.
Bell came to the rescue 20 minutes later. She knew I was there for a blow dry, so I was obviously in the system. She was personable and friendly despite the fact that she got called in. She made my hair look amazing! Thank goodness for Bell!
It would have been nice to be compensated for my time and frustration somehow, which I was not. In fact, I paid more for the service with Bell than Neven according to their website. Great.
If I was reviewing my service solely with Bell, I’d give this place a 4 (maybe even a 5); however, they are lucky to get a 2 with the way my appointment was handled. Even if I lived in town, I wouldn’t go back. I would never trust that my appointment time would be something to count on based on this experience.

I’m in Milwaukee once or twice a year to feed my roving baseball obsession. I needed a last minute blow dry last month and LOVED the fact MKE Shears had online appointment scheduling via Unilocal on a Saturday. I hate calling salons and talking to humans.
Nilo did a fantastic job! He recommended I thin out my poofy hair a bit. I really pushed back. I hate people who aren’t my regular stylist in LA touching my hair. But I let him take off some of the body and it looked FANTASTIC.
I went back to my LA stylist this week and she’s usually really judgmental of others who touch my hair. She said Nilo did an awesome job, and finally someone convinced me to cut my hair a bit!
To top things off Nilo had a Square reader so I could pay by credit card and get an emailed receipt which is always a plus for my OCD receipt-​saving self. Hopefully next time he will have received the free upgrade to the NFC Square reader so I can pay with my phone!
Will be back for sure in the 2016 baseball season, and will try to bring a friend or two.

Best in Milwaukee with short men’s hair cuts

I had been going to Nilo for hair cuts for 4 years (previous salon) when my job moved me to NYC. Every visit back to MKE, I would be sure to stop in and get a hair cut. Nilo and Neven are up to date with techniques and styles without the pompous attitude of most salons of a similar caliber. The new salon is incredible! Modern space & styles, top of the line staff who make anyone feel welcomed, local art pieces for sale, moderately priced… What’s not to love? Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone (man or woman) looking to change up their style or just try somewhere new. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing salon with a really great vibe. After a bad haircut with my usual hair stylist I’ve been bopping around trying to find a new stylist. After a few crappy hair cuts and experiences I finally found a place I will return! Neven was my stylist and he did an amazing job! He spent at least 5 minutes just examining my hair and asking exactly what I wanted before we even got started. Nice and easy conversation created a really relaxing and enjoyable environment for a haircut and also helped him to get to know me to know exactly what my hair needed. He took his time with my hair and was incredibly precise. I felt completely pampered by the time he had finished. My hair ended up perfect and looked and felt great. I will definitely be going back!

Awesome!!! Best haircut in town!!! Nilo is incredible and I would send anyone I know to him for a cut!

It can be hard to find a great stylist but I took a chance and fell in love! Neven has cut my hair a few times now and every time I have been 100% happy! The staff is friendly, very accommodating, and knowledgable! I would recommend this place to anyone!
