Helena always does a great job with our dog. She and her team are always welcoming and love to see Autumn. Autumn comes back in great shape and clearly loves Helena and her groomers. Her prices are reasonable, and she goes out of her way to accommodate our schedule. I would absolutely recommend Madra!

Helena has groomed my dogs for 20 years. When I lived in Tennessee I would bring my Cocker Spaniel to her when I visited my family. When we moved back to Wisconsin I would bring my dog in from Oconomowoc. When I wants a Golden Retriever I asked Helena about breeders. She gladly pointed me in the right direction! We drove in from Wales and Waukesha to have her groom our first Golden. Se sent a beautiful card when our first Golden passed away. We were all crushed. We now have another beautiful Golden and we drive her in to see Helena. She is an absolute expert. She attends continuing education seminars to improve her craft. Se is enormously talented with the scissors and loves the challenge of a unique poodle cut. She is proud of her work and the business she has built over her 20+ years. It makes me sad to see negative reviews as she is more than willing to listen to a customer about her grooming. Maybe there was a miscommunication? Just talk to her and she will gladly work with you.

I would not dream of taking my dog anywhere but Madra! They know that all dogs are different and really take the time to get to know your pet. Also, Helena has a background in the veterinary world and is sensitive to any health or behavioral issues your dog might have. They even alerted me to something I needed to have my vet check, and I was hugely appreciative.
And I haven’t even mentioned the grooming! My dog always looks amazing and chic when I pick her up! They’re fantastic groomers and super cool people to deal with. I love Madra and feel the prices are incredibly fair. Not sure who some of the other reviewers are talking about, but the Madra I know is one of my favorite small local businesses and I adore them. Strongly recommend you check them out — your dog will be beautiful, sweet-​smelling, happy and stylish.

When I first brought my Leda (a very messy terrier mix) to Madra Pet Styling I had trouble conveying– or maybe even deciding– what I wanted her to get as a haircut.
She is a tricky mix of coarse, wiry Cairn Terrier hair and silky, flowy Longhaired Dachsund fur, and between the cowlick-​y feathering on her legs to her bushy eyebrows to her kinked tail, I didn’t know what type of cut to ask for. Thankfully the years of grooming experience and creativity between Helena, Erin, and Natasha they sculpted my scraggly, ragamuffin into an absolute princess! I was overwhelmed and have been asking for this «style» ever since that first cut.
I love my dog like a daughter and appreciated Helena’s attentiveness to my dog’s lifestyle. She asked what I was feeding, which grooming products I used at home, and if I had any concerns that she should know about before handing Leda over
(something else I liked– the fact that I literally «handed» my dog over. Getting dropped off in a new place can be stressful to some dogs and Helena knew to make the transition as quick and painless as possible… No long, sappy goodbye hugs or dragging Leda in by her leash against her will.)
Something else I am absolutely grateful for is the fact that Helena offered to do a free sanitary trim (shaving down/​trimming the hair away from Leda’s lady-​parts) in between grooms. I was embarrassed having to explain that my dog suffers from urinary problems and longer-​hair down can be a breeding ground for bacteria that lead to UTIs.
Having worked with dogs for years, and having been a veterinary technician prior to becoming a groomer, Helena not only understood my concern, but assured me it ain’t no thang. Reassuring to know that I won’t have to plead for a doggy-​Brazilian at each groom!
Leda looks forward to going to Madra. She is handled well (these ladies know how to put up with her tenacious terrier bullshit on the grooming table), gets to mingle with a great group of dogs in the shop when she’s finished (she is usually cuddled up on Madra’s front windowsill when I pull up, sunning herself in a pile of well-​preened pooches and throw pillows), and happy and gorgeous when she comes home!

I am writing this review only because I feel that I should probably share my experience with Madras since the incident doesn’t seem isolated.
This review is actually from when I went there five years ago. It seems silly to write a review from an experience a half decade ago but I would like to comment on the character of the groomer.
A few days before I brought my shih tzu into her I’d just rescued him from a very neglectful situation where he was extremely neglected (and we suspect abused) in a very rural area. This has left his temperment to be very mellow and shy. His coat was completely matted and he was in desperate need of a groom.
I was so excited to bring him to her and when we walked in the door she had the nastiest attitude with us, even without saying a word. At first I thought perhaps I’d interpreted the situation incorrectly but when I began speaking with her she confirmed that my gut was correct.
She scolded us for not having him neutered and turned her nose up at us for bringing a dog to her in such poor aesthetic condition (remember, he’s a rescue we got a few days earlier, which is what we explained to her). When we came back I gladly will say that he had a beautiful cut but the condescension far overshadowed this woman’s craft. I have chosen to go to other groomers that are further away from my home who do a slightly less better job than she does because I refuse to support such a mean spirited and seemingly arrogant person.
I am sad that this incident doesn’t seem to be able to be chalked up to someone having a «bad day». What a shame…
One star for the crappy service and one for giving him a nice cut.

I never want to go to any other groomer! I’ve been going every 3 – 4 months since the opening. Helena always does exactly what I ask for and gets the job done fast. It’s nice when you can get to know your groomer, and it’s nice to have someone you can trust with your dog. I have 2 Maltese. One is relaxed and the other is a nervous guy. She handles both of them gently and has a special way with my nervous dog. I’m lucky to have Madra in my community.

I have been coming to Madra’s for 8 years now, and must say the service has been and continues to be exceptional.
Helena is a first class dog groomer, and she takes excellent care of all my dogs. She has no problems with using special shampoos, doing «extra» care, all at reasonable prices.
I highly recommend Helena and Madra.

this past thanksgiving, i was taking care of my 11 year old golden retriever holly since my parents went on vacation. i live with my roommate across the street from madra and decided that holly would benefit and enjoy a fall-​time spa day. holly is very easy going, always friendly, and just a wonderful old soul to be around.
as soon as my roommate and i entered madra, the owner scowled at us and looked us both up and down with the look that said, «what are these two stupid kids doing here.» regardless, i continued booking an appointment for holly — my parents gave me $ 75 for the service (s). i thought i’d bring it to the helena’s attention that holly had both her legs repaired after ACL tears a few years ago, so that she couldn’t jump up on her own onto the tables. apparently, this was going to be a HUGE problem for helena, and she promptly cut our appt booking short by saying, «i’m not sure if i can groom your dog then…» and left it at that.
needless to say, she said she’d call me back with a definite answer as to whether or not she could help me and holly out. not surprisingly, i never received any sort of reply back even though she asked for my number and the other dates that could have worked out.
all in all, helena greeted us from the start with an extremely bitter and negative attitude, along with the biggest scowl i have ever seen. she treated me not like a paying customer /​potential new client, but rather as a stupid child who just happened to wander in to her «VIP» dog styling place (which, it totally isn’t, seeing as the prices are outrageous while the interior space is dark, dusty, unprofessional, and just tired looking). for the prices she charges, i’d at least expect the place to be updated and cleaned up a bit…

We are great fans of Madra Pet Styling especially our groomer Erin. Out Wire Fox Terrier Jameson loves to go there and really enjoys meeting up with all of the gang.
I would highly recommend Madra Pet Styling.

Madra came recommend by our Veterinarian’s secretary.
He have tried 4 different pet groomers over the last couple years and have come back to Madras again and again because she seems to understand how to do a good cut on our Yorkie, Louie.
She keeps notes on things you prefer and special instructions so there is no need to repeat what you want the dog to look like after the grooming.
Prices are reasonable… not the cheapest, but not the most expensive (we pay $ 55, which includes tip)
Overall we have had great luck taking our dog here and considering we have tried 4 other groomers, I figure I can giver her a 5 star review, because apparently nobody else knows how to groom a Yorkie well: D
