Louie’s Coop

Descriptive phrase: boutique grocery bar.
Groppi’s is a great little grocery store, but it’s made that much better and fits that much more with the little neighborhood surrounding thanks to its house-​bar, Louie’s Coop. Louie’s is located waaaay in the back of the store, near the liquor and meat departments. They only have a few taps, but they’re almost always something local and unique. As others mentioned, prices are on-​par with the area. You can sit at the small bar inside or, as I recommend, take your drinks out the side door to the outdoor patio. It’s a hidden, secluded spot off a busier street.
Louie’s Coop is not necessarily a destination, but it fits perfectly in this boutique store and this eclectic and chill neighborhood. Grab a friend and a beer and enjoy.

This little bar is tucked away in the back of Groppi’s, that great little market in Bay View.
Their tap beer selection is quite varied and rotates often. They also have a good wine selection to choose from, by the glass, also.
Tuesdays they have 2−4−1 tap beers and Wednesdays there are select $ 3 wine pours by the glass (Australian Shiraz, last night, $ 3!).
Eric and Stephanie are a great duo behind the bar as they are both friendly and knowledgeable about their beers and wines.
If you are feeling a bit peckish, they have pizzas and a good selection of appetizers to nibble on — cheese plates etc.
Louie’s Coop has a nice feel to it with great people either behind the bar, or in front of it!

My husband and I joke all the time that all good nights start at Louie’s Coop. And how could they not?! Louie’s Coop is a bar… inside a grocery store! And not just any grocery store, Groppi’s: the best grocery store in all of Bay View.
So imagine a bar inside an old school grocery store with great drink specials, very generous pours and delicious pizzas and cheese plates. It’s a solid place to unwind after work (with the added convenience of being able to pick up groceries!), have a drink on a Sunday afternoon, or a Friday night. The bartenders are personable and can provide great drink recommendations, and the snacks can’t be beat. It’s the best kept secret in all of Bay View.

Consider yourself spoiled. On one side of town, you have Glorioso’s. On the other side of town, you have Groppi’s. Both are five stars in my book and they both cover your shopping necessities. However, there is something about an intimate grocery store that has a bar. Unlike Joseph, I would hate to see Groppi’s get any bigger. The bar has seating for 15 – 20, which is just enough to have a few people standing around, enjoying themselves, while listening to some perfectly volumed live music feet away. Place is a class act.

I love Louie’s Coop, it’s truly bar for fun’s sake. Their beer selection is constantly rotating and features many small brewers from across the country. Prices are in line with the area and service is as good as you could ask for. But the wine… the wine is the best part. Rather than being a traditional wine bar, with 100% mark-​ups over retail, it is retail. You go to Groppi’s extensive wine selection, pick out a bottle, pay at the bar and they open it up for you. No corkage fee! In fact, Katie and John Nehring (the owners) were there my first time in to help with wine selection. 4 of us had two great bottles of wine for less than $ 50.
Now the bad. Other than the bar, there is no indoor seating due to fire code issues. Unless you get there early the bar fills up quickly. This past summer that wasn’t an issue due to the spacious outdoor patio. But when the weather turns cold or wet (or both) it’s up to chance when it comes to finding a seat. This is the only point keeping it from a full 5 Star rating. If this gets fixed then it will be hard to beat!
