My hubby eats Lopez bakery exclusively at the Farmers’ Market in Brookfield. He especially likes the fact that it isn’t overly sweet and there is plenty of variety. And no, he doesn’t think it tastes like sand :-). We look forward to visiting the store and restaurant when the market closes for the season.

I’ve been here for lunch a few times now and I’m always impressed with the food and the service. The menu has a good selection of breakfast and standards like tortas, tacos and burritos with reasonable prices. Soda comes in a can. The bakery is well stocked with cookies and other sweets.

Best vanilla conchas in town. Breakfast is good, too– try the enchiladas verdes(which is totally appropriate for breakfast, I promise). If you eat in, service– especially check-backs– can be spotty, so ask for everything you might need right away. If you *think* you might want water later, ask for it when you order. Another hint: if you order coffee, you have a higher chance of the server returning to the table. Lopez is a staple at the South Shore Farmer’s Market in Bay View, but like most Mexican bakeries, the cookies and such taste like sand. But if you get to the farmer’s market early enough, they’ll have conchas left, and you won’t be sorry.(Make sure you get«conchas blancas.» The yellow and chocolate ones fall into the category of Mexican bakery items tasting like sand).
