Really bummed out by my recent experience at Koppa’s Deli. I live across the street from Koppa’s and have been enjoying their deli sandwiches for the last 8 months. I always order the same thing(ham and provolone on a hard roll) which cost $ 2.50, can’t beat that for a quick and delicious meal. Well, I stopped in today and didn’t recognize anyone behind the counter. In fact no one even spoke English, so I had to write down my simple order on a menu. I was shocked when they handed me a sandwich that was $ 4.50. I was even more shocked when I got home and there was only half a slice of cheese and 2 slices of ham on my sandwich. The sandwich was still enjoyable, but I miss the friendly guys that would greet me with a smile and knew my order before I even opened my mouth! I think I’ll stick to the beer at Koppa’s from now on. I’ve also seen some very questionable produce and grocery products here, you need to be very careful about what you purchase and always check expiration dates.

I’m usually one who does not eat leftovers… Ever. The sandwich from the deli is coming home with me because it was so good. I love Milwaukee but being from the south I have found very little food that I’d actually call good. Wow I can’t believe I found something so good in a «corner grocery».

Best sandwiches ever! My husband and I stumbled upon this when we were originally going to eat at the diner across the street. The line was soooo long and we were starving. I glanced over and saw that the little grocery store across the street had a deli. So glad we went there instead! And you can play Atari while you wait for your sandwich. Now my husband try to find excuses to go to Milwaukee just to hit up this deli at some point.

I’m not going to lie, I was a little bummed out when I received my Sandwhich; The Oogle-Bogle. I was only disappointed by the lousy amount of meat on the sandwhich, just two tiny pieces of roast beef that didn’t even cover the entire Sandwhich. I called and mentioned this to the Deli, I just hope they will take my complaint seriously as I would not go back and order again unless that was fixed. AND the Chobanj yogurt I bought expired on March 28th. It’s April 17th. Do they not check their perishables?

Possibly the worst sandwich I’ve ever paid for. Im pissed at myself for throwing it in the garbage instead of bringing it back. What a joke. Save your money.

Great sandwiches at an unbeatable price. Hands down a must if looking for a hoagie/sandwich. Not to mention by far the best hoagie bread in Milwaukee. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

I love Koppa’s sandwiches, deli salads, selection of chocolate covered goodies, and the bizarre décor. And of course– Atari! A couple years ago I would have given Koppa’s a solid 5 stars– no complaints. Attending semi-frequently this summer, I’d give it 4, not knocking it for the food which is still stellar, but for the hit & miss turnaround time for sandwiches at lunch time… I found myself often wondering«Why not staff more people during these busy few hours?» The service went downhill a bit this year, and the workers didn’t seem as happy. After my experience today, I have to give Koppa’s 1 star. I witnessed a boss or manager publicly scream at an employee. In my opinion there is no appropriate time for a manager to scream at an employee the way I witnessed, in front of a large group of customers or otherwise. A simple mixup that could have easily been corrected calmly would have completely diffused the situation. As an uninvolved witness shocked by the situation, I was very close to walking out and leaving my food at the counter. Instead I’m writing this review. I’m very disappointed that this will forever taint Koppa’s for me. Maybe in time I will return, but for now I can’t support a business that is willing to treat their employees in such a manner.

I want to like this place. But I’ve received one too many charred sandwiches. Today was the final straw. I hoped and hoped that the scraping noise I heard coming from the partially-hidden employee was that employee doing something else. Maybe buttering some toast. Negative. I smelled the burn before I even opened the sandwich. I tried to eat it. Couldn’t. I won’t be back. There are good sandwiches in Milwaukee. Don’t waste your time here.

Koppa’s has been in transition for well over a year now. There’s constant turnover in personnel and as a result, service is really dodgy. However, I can handle the surly checkers(the woman during the day is especially unhelpful) and I can handle the slow and/or surly deli workers, but why would you stop the $ 5 Monday sandwich deal? I know it’s only saving me $ 3.00 over two sandwiches, but it made the glacial pace and the unfriendly environment worth it. Not only did you stop it, but the way you announced it was a tiny handwritten sign that went up sometime on Monday, June 29th(the last day you ran the special)? No signage in the deli indicated that the special was no longer, no sign on the door, nothing but a tiny handwritten sign at the register. By the time I saw it, I was already checking out. Poor form.

Can’t say enough great things about this place. $ 5 Monday sandwiches. They are all delicious and huge!!! I alway pick one up on my way to the beach in the summer. All of their grocery items are very reasonable for being a corner store! Deli salads are fantastic. Love the curried chicken salad. I always ad some almonds to it when I get home. Staff is usually very pleasant and attentive.

One of my favorite places for lunch. Their deli sandwiches are always made well and created by a courteous staff. And you can’t beat the price. If you haven’t been, you should give it a try.

Koppa’s gets a 3 from me. I didn’t originally stop in to get any food from the deli or any sandwiches. I wanted a grocery item really quickly. I happen to stumble upon the deli section and i said to my self«Self why don’t you try a sandwich». There was not a soul in sight. So i said ok enough is enough im gonna get what i can to get and get out! I stumbled across the Atari! Yea i did couldn’t play it though not enough time. So sad right? Well i decided to find what it was that i was looking for and it was so ridiculously priced that i had to walk out and go to Walgreen or something. I cant tell you about the staff i didn’t see enough of them to interact with them. The store is clean but the clutter or lack of a theme might make it look a little scruffy to some. I personally love the blast from the past. I felt i was on set of a movie from the 80’s staring Bill and Ted or the cast from the Breakfast Club, maybe Ferris Buellar’s Day off? Maybe im going to far now Right? Well you get the point. It is a neighborhood staple and for this reason i am curious and will try again. The other Unilocalers seem to be fond good olé Koppa’s. So I’ll give it a shot.

I was in the area and I was hungry. I opened my handy Unilocal app to see what I had bookmarked in the area and several places came up. My first choice was Osaka because I wanted to try their ramen, but they were closed between lunch and dinner, even though their posted hours said they’d be open. It would be 30 more minutes before they opened, so I went to Plan B, Koppa’s. After I parked, I glanced around and was impressed by the options that are available in the intersection with Koppa’s, Comet Café, Stone Bowl, and the new Rice n Roll. I saw myself coming back to this block again and soon. Walking into Koppa’s, I noticed a small dining area on the left and the cashiers set up ahead. There was a small liquor section along the south wall, the deli along the east wall, and the rest of the store had a bit of everything: isles of standard grocery fare, a few specialty items, t-shirts, and a station where you can sit and play old Atari games. Wait — Atari games?! Get out! Ok, that’s actually pretty cool! I was there for a sandwich, so I focused, pulled up the Unilocal app again for your tips and reviews and made my decision, a Hodag. What’s a Hodag? The guy behind the counter told me he believes it was named for some creature up north. It was hard to hear him, so I looked it up. Wiki says it is «a folkloric animal of the American state of Wisconsin. Its history is focused mainly around the city of Rhinelander in northern Wisconsin, where it was said to have been discovered… It had«the head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail with spears at the end». The story goes back to 1893, an interesting choice for a sandwich name. Koppa’s Hodag is essentially a build-your-own breakfast sandwich, available all day. There are laminated cards with various options for you to select for your unique version of the Hodag, from cheeses, to bread, to meats, to sauces, veggies, etc. Next to the cards is a small container of crayons, which you use to mark your choices on the card. Hand it in and a few minutes later, your sandwich arrives. Menu boards above the deli counter offer lots of other choices, both meat and vegetarian friendly. I was overwhlemed by all of the choices, even when selecting them for the Hodag, but one of the guys behind the counter make a few suggestions to help narrow my choices. I went with one egg, bacon, and smoked gouda on a croissant. The sandwich was delicious and a great value, since all of the prices of the sandwich components were low to reasonable. My Hodag was around $ 4.50. I paid at the register, sat in the small dining area, and went back in to complete my mini tour of the store. Since I don’t live in the area, I wouldn’t trek down to go grocery shopping. However, I would go back to order another sandwich or stop in to buy deli meats when I’m on the east side visiting family, since they carry Boar’s Head meats at a lower price than the store closer to my house. I believe Koppa’s falls under the category of unofficial Milwaukee landmarks. If it doesn’t it should, and you should see it for yourself.

This place is excellent! I was looking for someone to deliver emergency groceries to my little old mother who was hit with a stomach bug(and it was also only 5 degrees outside). I live in San Francisco but I called Koppa’s and this awesome, nice lady Margaret helped me pick what was needed and they delivered it same day for a very reasonable charge! And, my mom said the delivery girl was totally sweet and the chicken soup she brought over from the deli was delicious! Will definitely use this service in the future, and look forward to going in to say«hi» next time I visit Milwaukee!

I love this strange little place… made my way through the vegetarian part!.. my favorites are Deli Lama, Atlantis, Euphrates… my husband loves the Bread Favre. And those giant peanut butter cups in the candy aisle are mighty tasty!.. my only complaint is they make the sandwiches too fast and I’m not done playing my games! Oh and Monday is $ 5 sandwich day and online they have printable coupons. even for sandwiches!

A grade a solid filling $ 5.00 sandwich. I was especially grateful to the sandwich constructor because the deli was closed by the time I got there but he was still willing to pull out the tools to construct this fatwich. I got the recommended sandwich called the rim(something). I have no idea what was in the sandwich even though all the ingredients were clearly all labeled on the menu and I literally finished the sandwich right before writing this review. All I can say is that I was happier than I was before finishing the sandwich. TLDR: delicius deli sandwiches are $ 5.00 on Mondays

Ugh. Koppa’s. You suck. Why do I keep going back to you? It’s because your sandwiches are really delicious… when they’re made right. But most of the time they’re not. Unholy amounts of horseradish, adding onions to a sandwich that doesn’t come with onions, leaving the dressing off a reuben, just making an entirely different sandwich than I ordered – all big sandwich offenses. And even if they are made right, I still have to wait SOLONG and put up with such fucking attitude from the deli workers that it ruins the sandwich anyway. It’s actually a game I play – try and get the deli workers to smile by being nice to them. I never win. Their shitty attitudes are unbreakable. What else? The place looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in decades. Everything in the deli counter has that hazy grey, nasty film over it – the film that builds up when coleslaw sits out too long. Kitchy stuff on the walls and an old Atari system can’t make up for the grossness and the fucking attitude. Now if I can only remember that every time before I walk in.

I love Koppa’s. I could probably eat one of their deli sandwiches every day. Seriously, sometimes it’s multiple times a week. I have been known to bring Koppa’s sandwiches on road trips just so I can have that little piece of home. They have a great selection of sandwiches on the deli menu(Bread Favre, will you marry me?), but I’m also a fan of the DIY checklist where you select what you want. Koppa’s is also pretty quirky: from the Atari to the hilarious labels on their packaged items(just read them for yourself), the place really is one of a kind. So why am I not giving Koppa’s five stars? For one, the service at the deli counter can be hit or miss. The sandwiches are consistently awesome, but the service is not. Sometimes the people behind the counter are super friendly and other times they just look like they don’t want to help you at all. For me, I just grin and bear it since I love the sandwiches so much, but I know it puts some people off. Another thing is that I wouldn’t recommend Koppa’s as your regular grocery store, since the prices and selection are not the best. I come here for sandwiches and occasional grocery items(they have great baked goods from East Side Ovens), but I don’t do my full grocery shopping here. And lastly, they have retired their punchcards! What the heck, Koppa’s? For a regular sandwich-lover like me, it was really sad to hear that I can’t get free sandwiches anymore for my die-hard sandwich loyalty. Bottom line: make your way to the deli counter and pick yourself up a sandwich. Your day is now complete.

Taxidermy animals on top of grocery aisles, living room furniture and fish, bologna and cheese galore, and a deli that will make your taste buds cry for more. Holy Smörgåsbord of oddities all under one roof. I was just in for the deli. I went with the Frukwine sandwich hot off the grill. It was pretty tasty; turkey, Swiss, red onion, tomato, alfalfa sprouts, cranberry mustard, and secret spice on rye bread. The cranberry mustard was a little messy because it kept melting out of the sandwich and down my arm, I’m real attractive when I eat. But it was a really good sandwich. I even got a little treat inside my sandwich bag, Laffy Taffy(my childhood fav) and a pickle. My lunch partners when with submarines sandwiches. The Mars and Saturn(the Saturn is usually on pita bread but she substituted). The only complaint on the Mars was the honey mustard was pretty overwhelming. Our sandwiches were ate without any other comments… too busy eating. The names of some of the sandwiches are really comical; Baron Rodgers, Deli Lama, Bread Favre and Obi-wan Bologna to name a few. Then there is a sandwich in honor of each of the planets, including the Earth and Sun. If your planning on the deli, check their website for coupons. We used a $ 1 off any deli sandwich and a free fries with purchase of a deli sandwich coupon. The fries were freakin awesome; fresh, hot and you get a huge bag of them. I use to live literally a block away and I never stopped in. Shame on me because this place was freakin awesomeness in a box. So much unique décor, the staff are classic Milwaukeeans… very eclectic. LOVED it!
