I recently had an outstanding burger for lunch at the Growing Power Café. It was hand formed, juicy, and came with the works(micro-greens, hot peppers, sliced tomato and onion, on a delicious bun. The downside was the pace in which it came. I’m all about the slow food movement, but I’ve only got 30 minutes for lunch. It shouldn’t take 20+ minutes to grill a burger.

Growing Power greens and beer. That is what has made Milwaukee famous. I popped in here to show some support for the juggernaut powerhouse urban farming and organic locally sourced empire spearheaded by Milwaukee’s own Will Allen. This is the first real local food serving establishment in Growing Power as of yet and I liked what I was eating. In case you didn’t already know, you are probably eating Growing Power food at many of the nicer restaurants in town. Great chefs love fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This place is a chance to get it on the cheap. Try the turkey sandwich or the jambalaya. I asked what the favorites were, and I liked them both. If you love Milwaukee and want to support something great like Growing Power, stop in here for a bite. More important, you’ll be getting REAL food. Do you know how rare REAL food is these days? Do your stomach a treat and take it back a couple hundred years when human beings were actually eating real meals from food grown in real soil and livestock that fed on grass and grazed freely. Viva la revolucion, Will Allen!
