After posting my review of Milton Village Hardware Colby immediately contacted me to address my concerns. I am very happy with his level of professionalism and understanding of the issues I raised below. As a result I have increased MHV’s review score to 3 stars. Milton Hardware Village lacks any hint of customer service protocol or fair pricing… dropped off my snowblower for a routine tune up. Was quoted at $ 160 for that service. They also quoted me $ 32 for delivery back to my house. i got a call when It was ready 3 weeks later. The rep proceeds to tell me it was $ 360. She explains it was $ 145 worth of parts and one way delivery is $ 55 even though round trip is $ 60. She denied quoting me $ 32…even more strangely what company doesn’t give a courtesy call to tell the customer the parts are almost as expensive as the service price and therefore providing the consumer with the right to decide what to do with the snowblower… now lets just hope their work is worth the price.

Need a lawn mower serviced and purposely announcing not coming here again. Rude, condescending, sexist I brought in my mower that wasn’t starting, and explained why wife tried to change the spark plug herself. After they repaired my mower, I asked what was involved in a tune up, was told, «why do you want to know, you had your wife changing the spark plug!»

I had two light fixtures that didn’t work and needed new sockets. I called lots of places and no one would work on them. I brought them to Milton Hardware and now both are working. They called me with an estimate before they did the repair and obviously I thought the price was fair or I wouldn’t have had them do the work.

I called to get an estimate to tighten a loose wire in my antique fire extinguisher lamp. $ 75?!? That’s about how much one of those lamps costs. Completely outrageous price gauging. I’m so glad I didn’t drop it off there. I’m not surprised that others are displeased with their service and prices.

When in to this store for ice melt and the guy behind the counter was really rude. Don’t know how they stay in business with people like this.

We went there to have a lamp fixed, it needed a new toggle to turn it on/off. They fixed it all right but charged us $ 80!!! They never told us what it would cost and we foolishly didn’t ask, but we thought $ 20 would be generous. To add insult to injury the toggle they put on it was a completely different finish than the lamp. Not impressed.

I had a terrible experience when I had my lawn mower fixed by them. The quality of the work was fine, but the way I was treated by the younger store owner was so unsettling that I wrote a complaint the BBB. The highlights of the bad business practices were that: 1) The pricing was not adequately explained(especially the pickup /delivery charge which I was only informed of when it was time to get the mower back). 2) They have no receipts to confirm they’ve got your stuff in their possession. 3) The part-owner Colby was rude from start to finish, and when I complained he had not told me about all the charges upfront, he yelled«why don’t you come pick up your mower yourself» and hung up the phone on me. Avoid. This place might be OK if you just need to stop in and pick up a hammer or something else quick. However, these days I am going to Norfolk Hardware instead for that sort of thing. They are bigger and better stocked, but are still a neighborhood store.
