New spot to grab phở for locals! I have to say, their Phở taste pretty good, but the portions of the Phở soups are small. I also ordered their red rice plate with BBQ short ribs & grilled Shrimp, this was a good portion. Came with salad and a small soup. Service was good, I brought my 3 year old and the waitress already knew to bring me a small bowl with SCISSORS! Yes, if your Asian, you know what I mean. Need a quick way to cut ‘em noodles for the little one. The broth of the Phở was good, that’s why I’d probably be back at this Phở-noodle-kid-friendly joint.

2 stars for the cleanliness and fancy schmancy feel to this place. Other than that, there’s really nothing impressive about this restaurant that will make me want to return. I ordered their shrimp plate w/the crab cake, and was shocked when they brought it out to my table — PLEASE see the picture I posted: They only gave me two TINY pieces of shrimp, a really DRY crab cake(that I only had one bite of), a ton of rice, and huge pieces of iceberg lettuce. WTF? The only thing I ate were the two tiny pieces of shrimp & a few bites of the white rice. Everything else on that plate was left over! I was still so hungry after eating the two pieces of shrimp, so I had a couple bites of my boyfriend’s beef phở; but even the phở broth tasted funky. He had to add a ton of sriracha & hoisin sauce to help the lack of flavor. I’ll stick to Phở Mai or Phở Nam in Sunnyvale.

Tried this place a couple of times. Food is meh, pricey for Vietnamese and the area, and service is what you would expect at a normal Asian restaurant-not great. I have tried a couple of their broken rice dishes, didn’t like their egg/meat cake, their meat was too chewy, everything I enjoy when I eat broken rice. Sure, their décor is fancier than the regular Vietnamese joint, but the with food not tasting great AND the higher prices, no thanks!

After having a large buffet lunch, my cousin took us here for a light dinner that evening. It appears Com Tam Thien Huong is a pretty popular Vietnamese restaurant in Milpitas, Ca., and there are about four other Com Tam Thien Huong restaurants in the San Jose area too. My cousin told me that the«Broken Rice» dish was very popular here… but I did not give the Broken Rice dish a try that evening. Instead, I saw an Oxtail Soup which was on the menu, and that had sparked my interest so I decided to order it. When the waiter came by, I ordered myself the Oxtail Soup, and one of my noodle options were either having this soup with a «thick noodle», or a regular«thin noodle». I ended up picking the thick noodle, as I wanted to try something different, as they don’t offer this at home(as least I’m not aware of it). Upon eating the thick noodle, I realized the texture of the noodle was no different(to me) then eating the regular thin noodles. The soup stock was okay… not bad, but not outstanding either. I’ve had a better tasting soup stock at home. The oxtail meat wasn’t too meaty, and a wee bit chewy too. My cousin also ordered some summer rolls for us to share, and I must say the summer rolls were delicious! Very large shrimps tucked into the rice roll, with lots of veggies. The peanut sauce was wonderful too! By now you’re probably wondering what is «Broken Rice?» The best way to put it… it’s just rice, but broken into a smaller shape. How do I know? Well, I did take a scope of rice to try on my sister’s bf plate. To me… rice is rice! But since the rice was broken… when you put it into your mouth, the broken rice offered a slightly different texture, that’s about it… The service here was not too friendly… I felt like the waiter who came to our table to take our order was a bit rude, & in a rush(in the way he took our orders). But hey, I know I’m in an F.O.B. Asian restaurant… so sometimes it’s the norm! LoL!

I came to try the broken rice after hearing much hype about it! I ordered the broken rice plate with BBQ pork and shrimp cake. I was assuming the rice would be very special, but to me, it is just rice in a different smaller shape. Like baby rice. The rice was fluffy and well-cooked though! The pork was tasty and the shrimp cake was wrapped in a crunchy outer shell! My plate was missing the shrimp cake at first but the waiter brought it over immediately when I asked for it. I sprinkled some fish sauce over my meal and it was a pretty solid rice plate. The protein to rice ratio was pretty good too, but I ended up not being able to touch the side salad of vegetables! ALSOFREESOUP!!! At 10 dollars, this was a good and affordable place to eat! But I heard the tips go mainly to the owner … which sucks.

My family told me this place was known for the rice plates, but based on the Unilocal reviews and looking around at the other patrons, it looked like phở was the meal to order. I ordered the phở tai small and the soda xiao muoi. The phở tasted ok, the meat looked weird because it was all curled up, but maybe it was the way it was cut. Overall, phở was ok. The soda xiao muoi was ok, but they gave it to me with too much sugar. Would have been better if they didn’t add any sugar or just a little bit. Overall, this place is ok. They also don’t take reservations, so get here early if you have a big group.

New owners and they really updated the décor of this place. Fancy lights and nice clean tables. The menu is much bigger with a larger selection of rice plates. Came here after the new owners and was a little surprised at the prices. It is a lot more than the previous prices and the portions are much smaller. Bf got the bbq pork and it was seriously 2 slices of pork about the width of my pinky and ring finger combines and 5 inches in length. THATWASIT!!! My phở was good but not the best. They need to step up on the portion of the rice plates cause $ 9+ for that little of meat is just wrong.

The food is good. Let’s get that out of the way. So far I’ve had the Phở Dac Biet and Com tam with short ribs and thit nuong from multiple locations. But the last 4⁄4 times I’ve eaten there, I also came down with stomachaches and in much cleaner terms, intestinal distress. It’s funny because I visited Vietnam for a couple of weeks and walked away unscathed by the poverty and illness(except maybe malaria). Anyway, after I came back home I had the phở at this location and by sheer coincidence(?) I also contracted diarrhea for roughly 3 days straight. If yours is a life lived dangerously, be my guest and eat at any of these franchises. If you don’t want to ruin your toilet, don’t.

Good Vietnamese restaurant to go dine at if you are in the area. I would give the hu tieu or the chicken noodle soup 3 stars and the rice with grilled pork 4 stars. The price is reasonable and the staff is fairly organized.

I’m so glad I finally found a good place near my apartment! I’ve been to all of the nearby phở restaurants, and I think this one is my favorite. They do hu tieu the way I like: seafood and pork(or just seafood), clear noodles(a little bit extra, but worth it), dry. Delicious and very quick, too. My partner in food ordered the phở with everything, and it was classically delicious. Comfort food. We ordered spring rolls to split and they were pretty huge, so we ended up not being able to finish the noodles. Haven’t tried the shrimp cake, but that’s next on our list! We will definitely be back.

We used to really love the vietnamese restaurant that was here before. Not sure if this is the same and they just remodeled and got new management? We had a shrimp cake and korean bbq plate as well as the combination oxtail phở. The oxtail I wasn’t crazy about, but the broth was good — which is the best part of phở in my opinion. The shrimp cake wasn’t as good as the restaurant in this location was prior. All the shrimp was clumped in the middle, but it was crispy. I will still come back here for it again. My boyfriend enjoyed the korean bbq. I also liked the small grain rice. Our waiter was nice, but we had to ask for our own water refills. We like this place ok, though we liked the last place better.

So sad to see Com Tam Thanh go, but with Com Thanh Thien Huong open now, I don’t feel so bad. My first encounter with this restaurant was for my dad’s birthday this year. I went with my dad, mom, older sister, brother and my sister’s boyfriend. I wasn’t craving rice or vermicelli plates at the moment, so I ordered some noodle soup. To my surprise, it didn’t taste too bad. Add vinegar to the broth and it’ll make it pop! After that one time, I’ve been getting the bun thit tom nhuong, which translates into vermicelli with grilled chicken and shrimp! It’s so delicious with fish sauce drench in the bowl! Service is pretty great here. Even if you don’t speak Vietnamese, the servers try their best to accommodate your needs. Although Com Tam Thanh was my favorite, I won’t mind saying Thien Huong is also one of my favorites as well!

I had a different location bookmarked for the longest time. I’m glad I waited to go since this one opened up much closer to home! I’ve only taken items to go so I can’t comment on the dining experience. The restaurant is new and clean so that’s always a plus. Ordering over the phone is easy and I haven’t had any mishaps with my orders. Poor Nguyen L. I’ve had the broken rice plates with the pork chop and shrimp, and also the one that had grilled pork, shrimp, and that crispy tofu thing. Both were very good. I think I prefer the pork chop but it really just depends on the mood I’m in. The nem nuong was good but when your heart is set on Brodard’s version it’s hard to win it over. Overall a good place that I will definitely revisit.

This is probably my first experience of com tam, i.e. broken rice plate. It’s actually pretty good! Since I have nowhere to compare this place with, I will give it a 4 star for now. Went there during lunch with a few coworkers. Place looked relatively new, and packed. All of us decided to get the broken rice plate, and I got the special one with almost everything — grilled pork, fried shrimp cake, egg cake, shrimp sugar cane and shredded pork skin. Rice plate came with a bowl of soup but I only took a sip of it. Portion was pretty good, considering this is a almost $ 14 rice plate. Grilled pork was tender, juicy and flavorful. I liked the everything on my plate, especially the shrimp cake. I’m not an expert on this but my vietnamese coworker said it’s not bad so I take it as pretty good. I will probably come back again if I crave for broken rice.

(3.5 stars) Haven’t had Com Tam is soooo long! Broken rice dishes are so delish, so when I saw this place open up nearby, I had to be reunited with an old love. I ordered the BBQ rib + grilled shrimp rice plate. $ 10.00 and I wasn’t too delighted with the portion size initially. It did come with a bowl of soup though. I probably got 7 cut up pieces of rib and 2 large shrimp. However, I found the food was grilled and marinated precisely and was pretty good. By the end of the meal, I was at a perfect fullness that actually made me feel good, rather than entering a food coma. There’s a lot of dishes so I feel like my opinion may change once I try the other choices.

For people who love eating Nem Nuong rolls, they know that the premier place to get this delectable Vietnamese dish is at Brodards in Garden Grove in Southern California(otherwise known as Little Saigon). Now, here in the Bay Area, there are a few places that make a pretty decent version of this dish. Com Tam Thien Huong is one of those places. Most people will argue what their favorite part of this dish from Brodard’s is. It’s either the sweet and savory meat, the crunchy stick in the rolls itself, or the sauce. I usually let them argue as I eat all the rolls. Now, you’re probably wondering how the 2 rolls compare. Well, to put it quite simply, the version at CTTH is good, but just not as good as Brodard. Would I order it again? No. Why not? Because I’d go with their spring rolls instead! I placed an order of these, too and it was probably one of the best I’ve had. I love Goi Cuon, but for some reason, they are really good over there. Very fresh and the peanut sauce is excellent. So many good restaurants in the area, but I won’t ignore this as a decent option. There’s also Huong Lan sandwiches right next door if you want Banh Mi. Or, if you’re with a customer from Idaho or Montana, there’s also a Subway about 73 feet away.

I was rolling around Milpitas in my Work Whip Big Ken. I was a little Hungry and Felt like Vietnamese Food. So I rolled to Com Tam Thien Huong. They just open Recently . They are located in a Large Strip Mall so there’s plenty of Parking. I parked my Work Whip and rolled in to Com Tam Thien Huong/. The Restaurant has a really nice upscale feel to it. The Décor is really nice. There’s a 5 Camera Surveillance System. There are also 22 Tables to pick from. I was greeted and seated. I perused the Menu and ordered the Goi Cuon for an Appetizer. For My Main Course I ordered Number 48– BBQ Chicken and Shrimp Rice Plate. Out first was my Goi Cuon. . The rolls were tightly wrapped and well constructed . The Ingredient’s were Nice and Fresh and the Flavors were on point . Very tasty with the Peanut Dipping Sauce. Out Next was my Rice Plate. The BBQ Chicken was Packed full of Flavor as was the 2 Grilled Shrimp they were even DE shelled. The Salad was very Fresh the Lettuce and Cucumbers were nice and Crisp. They make a good Rice Plate. Price seemed to be a little higher than Neighboring Vietnamese places. They take MasterCard and Visa . I paid by Credit Card and Rolled out. They also are Environmentally Conscious as they have Hand Dryers instead of Paper Towels in their Restrooms.

4.5 if it wasn’t so much more expensive than other Vietnamese restaurants’ broken rice plates. The interior is clean, bright, and a little bit tacky. It reminds me of a boba place with its white seats and neon lights but I kind of like it. The special combination rice plate with BBQ chicken is $ 13 but you’re given nearly twice as much as the $ 10 plates so order this and share. The BBQ chicken had so much flavor that I ate most of it. The egg cake was delightfully peppery. The nem nuong was fresh and crispy. This might be the best nem nuong I’ve had so far in San Jose. There never seems to be enough orange sauce because I dip way too much for 2 rolls. It’s that good. Extra sauce is 25 cents.

I was so happy see this popular com tam establishment open up a location in Milpitas. I’m not a fan of the one on Hostetter so I would drive the added distance to the Grand Century location in Viet Town. This one is situated across the street from long standing Fosters Freeze and kiddie corner to Big Lots. Walked in to find the same familiar neon blue, modern, polished silver décor. Same menu’s as the other locations but the prices are more reasonable then the Hostetter location. The service is very courteous and efficient. I ordered my usual broken rice with grilled shrimp and shrimp wrapped in deep fried tofu skin. The portions were large and I felt it was fairly priced at $ 10.50. The girls ordered phở and broken rice with grilled pork. They didnt skimp on the protein or the carbs. Everythig tasted fresh and extra bonus for cleanliness. 4 stars for food +.5 for service +.5 for cleanliness 5 stars

Clean new location for one of my favorite broken rice(com tam) and phở places. They are great for their Phở with the thicker noodles. Their Nem Nuong has to be one of the best around. I’d say just as good as Brodard from Southern California. This restaurant is expanding quickly around the area. Good to see another one close by. Favorites: Broken rice(com tam) Phở with thicker noodles Nem Nuong Only down thing from my first visit was that they gave me the wrong broken rice dish that I ordered to go. There was another large order that the girl was packing at the same time too and she even asked me what I ordered. I’ll let them know the next time I come in of this mishap but I won’t sing them since they just opened. Just make sure to check your orders to go. Tip: they usually run out of the thicker Phở noodles towards the end of the night.
