My favorite restaurant in the area. It’s set in a beautiful historic old home with exposed ceiling beams, but the atmosphere is surprisingly casual. The food is consistently excellent with a rotating menu, and prices are very reasonable for the quality. If you have a big appetite, a 3-course prix fixe is $ 40, but if you can’t eat so much food, even the small portion of pasta is generous and only $ 14. And the bring your own wine with no corking fee is a huge plus. Cash only!

I feel conflicted about the rating. It’s really between 3 – 4 stars, and I think it depends on what you order. Hubby and I dined here during restaurant week. We’re huge fans of Kitchen A Bistro, so we had high hopes for Orto. The restaurant is set inside an old historic home, and carries the same casual feel of KAB. Service was adequate, but we felt forgotten at times during our meal as our server buzzed around the place and took very long to get our check. Like KAB, this place is cash only. The best perk is BYO, but they do have a liquor license and bar with a decent selection. It’s always nice to be able to bring your favorite bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner. I give the food a solid B+ to A– … I’m not sure if we expected too much since we traveled an hour to get here, but while we weren’t blown away by our meals, we thoroughly enjoyed each dish. The fresh bread and seasoned ricotta was an excellent start. The ricotta was fresh and laced with lemon which melted on the piping hot bread. We both got the duck liver mousse and orange marmalade for apps and this dish was a winner! The mousse was thick and rich with flavor and was complimented well by the orange marmalade. We only wished that it came with more toasted bread for the mousse. My hubby got an additional dish — the asparagus ravioli in a parmesan cream sauce. It was seasonally fresh and homemade pasta is always good. For our entrees we ordered the linguine bolognese and lasagna bolognese. Like many other reviews, the hype on the linguine bolognese is real! It was the best I’ve had. The lasagna bolognese didn’t carry the same luster… I found it to be very salty after tasting a bite from my husband’s plate. He wasn’t thrilled and wish he had ordered the linguine instead. For dessert I got the tiramisu which was awesome and he got the sautéed pears with whipped which he loved. If we didn’t live so far away we would definitely return and try Orto again. If you’re in the area, definitely go! It’s a great place for a date or an intimate group meal with friends. Don’t forget your favorite bottle of wine!

We had my sister’s bridal shower at Orto this past weekend. The food and service were absolutely outstanding. Sandra did such a great job helping to select the menu. We opted to BYO which is an awesome option to have. The food was so delicious and plentiful. The service was seamless. I would have any event at Orto in the future. No words to express how pleased we were that we had the shower at Orto.

My children had given us a gift certificate to Orto, and what a gift it turned out to be! A gem of a restaurant located in a historic home in Miller Place, NY. It definitely lived up to its Unilocal reviews. We decided to go early, and since they’re only open from 5:30 — 9:30, that meant a 5:45 seating, and it was a very good move on our part. First of all, within a half hour of our being seated, the place was packed. Orto has a very lively and vibrant vibe, so if you’re hard of hearing try to arrange to be seated at the few quieter tables that aren’t in the main dining area. In the winter months, depending on where you are seated, dress in layers, as I felt a chill, even on a spring evening. But, I suppose that’s the price of dining in a historic old house. That said, the food is exceptional. Our cocktails, a vodka martini with a twist, and a Manhattan were perfect. Now would be a good time to let you know that at Orto, you may bring. your own wine !! And the best part is that there is no corking fee! Next time I plan to do that, but on this visit we felt like having cocktails instead. A friend of mine, who is a real foodie once said to me, «Good bread doesn’t require anything!» Well, Orto has good bread! It was soft, crusty and tasty all at the same time. It did not need oil or any other topping. I definitely pigged out on the bread, it was that good on the night we were there. We both selected a Prix Fixe dinner. I opted for a Baby Green salad with Pecorino Cheese dressing, and yes, you know it, I had the Eggplant Parmigiana. No surprise here. It was a hearty helping and the layering was perfectly balanced. The red sauce/gravy was excellent and of just the right consistency. I really enjoyed it. For dessert I went for the Orange-Vanilla Panna Cotta. It was light and delicious with the perfect combo of sweet and tart. Hubby had the Asparagus and Ricotta Ravioli in a nice light cream sauce. He loved it! For his entrée he selected Chicken Milanese and was happy he did. It was great! The chicken was lightly crisped on the outside and tender on the inside. He was able to cut the chicken with his fork with ease. It was served with a tasty arugula salad. He also selected the Orange-Vanilla Panna Cotta for dessert. He never had Panna Cotta before, and he liked it a lot. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Orto and look forward to returning soon. I must caution that Orto is a cash only business! No credit cards.

This was our first time at Orto and certainly will not be our last. Loved the choices for dinner. I stated with the duck liver mousse and my husband had the risotto balls. Both were fabulous. For dinner I had the seared lamb with quinoa and my husband had the lasagna. Both again were fantastic. For dessert he had the tiramisu and I the chocolate chip gelato. The bonus for dinner was BYOW… bring your own wine. This allowed us to bring our own bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner and no corking fee. The service was outstanding, the décor is quaint and the prices were great. 3 courses $ 39 and 4 courses $ 49.

Delicious meal, appetizers were amazing– the flat bread with short rib was memorable! For dinner I had the lasagna and my husband had the stew– small portions but the lasagna was great(stew ok) great meal, dessert was not the best. I had ricotta pound cake, it was hard like a rock, he had tiramisu– so much cream on top that it really was not tiramisu!

I had been wanting to try this place out for a while and I finally decided to come here for restaurant week with my parents. Even though we had reservations for 7:30, unfortunately we were not seated until about 8:00. This wasn’t the greatest first impression but I figured with it being restaurant week they were very busy so it was not a big deal. Once we finally got seated I was so pleased to find that the food was worth the wait! For restaurant week they offered the three course prix fixe menu in which j got: the Caesar salad appetizer, bolognese pasta for my entrée, and the cheesecake for dessert. I think that salads are typically overlooked by many on the menu however, I think that if a restaurant is able to make a great salad then they are usually pretty good at everything else. That being said, this Caesar salad was perfect, lightly dressed and well seasoned. Next, the bolognese was the best I’ve ever had! The pasta was definitely homemade and the sauce was creamy, rich, and indulgent just like a bolognese should be. And lastly to finish off a great meal was the cheesecake which was so smooth and creamy. Aside from the delayed seating the service was very good, our waitress was helpful and attentive. I will certainly be coming back here in the future!

This another favorite restaurant. We went June 27, 2015. The staff were great and attentive This is a sister restaurant of Kitchen A Bistro. So I was already excited before I went. It is in a house converted to a restaurant. Nice place I had a salad for an appetizer. It was very good. THEN I had the short ribs with potatoes and greens. It was wonderful. The sauce on top was out of this world. I would come for this dish alone. It had the donuts with chocolate sauce which was a nice size serving and very good. The best part is the prixe fixe menu for $ 39 for the three courses Well worth the money.

First let me start by saying they honored all my requests on my advance reservation when I arrived. Service was attentive, but not obnoxious. Menu selections were outstanding and I really enjoy the prix fixed choice of either a 3 or a 4 course menu, not to mention you can bring your own wine, a major plus. All our choices arrived as described and were absolutely delicious. Love the Frito Misto Di Mare, delish and the Mussels with Spicy Sausage and Tomato, uniquely different. I especially enjoyed the Garganelli with Pork Ragu pasta and every entrée I have had now and in the past did not disappoint. Every dining experience here has felt like a special occasion.

The rustic 19th century exterior perfectly matches the interior. The charm was fortunately maintained and set the stage for a great dinner. The appetizers were amazing. In fact, the baked clams, and wings were the best I have ever had. I wouldn’t leave without trying the wings. The eggplant parm was perfectly homemade. The cheese was perfectly crusted, and the sauce was fresh and homemade. The service was attentive and never once was a glass allowed to sit empty on the table. I would definitely recommend, and will now be a frequent patron.

I would cation first they only take cash or check. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and spot on with his recommendations. I had salmon with capers, greens, onions, over a potato pancake that was fabulous. Taste was complex and delightful. Next I had a duck breast that was moist and not at all greasy. Perfectly pan seared. For desert New York Cheesecake. Perfection. They have wine on their menu but you can also byob. In a historic home. They had live music in the bar area that was nice. Perfect for couples on a special night. Thanks to the Chef for a Great meal!

Ordered some catering items and had to go try the dining experience. Love the fact that it’s in a historical house. The ambiance in the dining room is fantastic. I’ve gotten bored with typical italian fare. Not the case here. It’s amazing! Freshest ingredients put together in a unique way. The price fix is also worth it. Not like other places that give you the cheapest stuff and you’re forced to make concessions in regards to what you want. The service is excellent as well. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and friendly. Definitely going to be a regular spot!

I’ve been so busy, it’s Long Island restaurant week and I wanted to take the opportunity to come back to Orto. I brought a nice bottle of wine and my wife & I arrived 15 minutes early. The place is packed! We ordered our entrees, My wife ordered the Salmon and I ordered my favorite, Duck Confit. I love duck, if you love dark meat on chicken or turkey then you really should try duck. Cooked amazing with polenta, always a home run hit. At the end of our meal, I was given a card for $ 10 off? That’s just smart business, thanks Orto!

Phenomenal. We had a dinner party on a Saturday evening and it was just fabulous. Service was excellent and although we only had one server for 16 people she was quick, friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and large pasta was a ton of food. I had the papadelle in bolognese that was delcious and even better for lunch the next day when eating the leftovers. The shrimp and chorizo over polenta was perfect. The ending was as good as the meatball app beginning. Orange olive oil cake. YUM. so much so, I found a recipe and am baking for a party this weekend.
