I transferred from Georgia College two years ago and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss Blackbird’s coffee! This family owned shop has everything that a college student needs — drinks, food, entertainment, and a place to study. One of the owner was a previous professor of mine and is extremely friendly and very passionate about coffee. There was never a lecture day where she didn’t have a cup of Blackbird coffee in her hand while she taught, I can’t blame her! Blackbird in located on West Hancock St in Milledgeville’s mini downtown, right next to GCSU’s campus. I highly advise students to swing by in between classes for a good pick me up. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are greeted with friendly baristas. They are usually students who attend GCSU. They are all very knowledgeable about coffee and are flexible with customizing your drink. The beverage selections are all written on a big chalkboard and includes coffee, smoothies, milkshakes(blenders), tea, and even beer. They also have baked goodies such as chocolate croissant, scones, cookies, and so much more.(Be sure to let them know if you want your baked goods to be warmed up). Their chocolate chip cookies are huge and are loaded with chocolate! The perfect treat to satisfy a sweet tooth. Their coffee is just amazing. It’s ‘happy’ in a cup. It must be because they roast their own coffee beans every week. These store roasted beans are available for purchase. The perfect way to start a cold December’s day for me was with a hot Honey Nut Soy with extra foam! So creamy, so warm, so good. If it wasn’t a cold day, I would order myself a Blackbird’s blender, which is made from their ice-creams that they also have for sell. Blackbird supports local artists by decorating their walls with art pieces that are for sell to the public. The shop also sell their own merchandise such as hand crafted mugs, travel mugs, shirts, and notebooks that are made with recycled material. I believe there is some type of deal that goes along with buying Blackbird’s travel mugs, I may be wrong, but ask the barista if you’re interested. I do know they have a rewards system where for every 10 drinks you purchase, your next purchase is half off. Blackbird is a true Milledgeville gem. I always make the effort to stop by whenever I visit my friends at GCSU and I will continue to do so. My recommendations: [Drinks] — Any of their signature drinks! Including: — Cocoa Mocha Nut — Honey Nut Soy — Fogo Chai — Cookies & Cream Blender [Baked Goods] — Chocolate Chip Cookie — Chocolate Croissant — Any of their scones After you’re done with your hot drinks, be sure to recycle your coffee sleeve in the basket that’s next to the cash register!

I am a recent grad from GC&SU and I had a few grad classes at Blackbird. It is a great place to hang out and/or study. It has a great menu and great service. Make sure to get one of their chocolate chip cookies!

Really good coffee at Blackbird. Love their«shot of espresso and a beer for $ 4» deal. Their chocolate chunk cookies are lovely, but I don’t know if they’re made there… only disappointing thing to me was that their soy was from Walmart. I love supporting small/local/independent businesses… but if they’re supporting Walmart, it’s kind of moot! Free wifi, so that’s a plus, but also be aware if it’s during the school year, the place is overrun with students 90% of the time.

Fantastic coffee, fantastic service! Amazing gem we found on our way home from Macon to DC. The coffee was delicious, so much better than my usual coffee shop in the city. If you are in the area, or even if you are not, stop by!

Damn fine cup of coffee. While I switched from coffee to hot tea months ago, my husband still drinks the java likes it’s going out of style. Out of style like that sentence. Whoa! Seriously though, a coffee shop should have good brewed coffee and friendly staff. Anything else is secondary. We didn’t sample pastries or the like so no opinion on that. Folks working here were friendly and helpful. I was offered a water when I declined to drink any other beverages(got to limit my caffeine intake now a days) and I always appreciate the little things like that. Décor is simple but with a decidedly city flair. Lots of wood and dark colors and sleek metal lighting. My husband would definitely return to grab another cuppa.

Super cool spot off the beaten path, in downtown Milledgeville. A refreshing break from the road as we were en route from Va to Macon, GA. Would have never found and/or known about the place if it weren’t on Unilocal. We only got coffee & iced tea on this visit, but the sandwich menu looks great, the choc chunk cookies are huge, they serve ice cream and beer on tap, roast their own beans. Overall, a cool vibe in a cute little town. Plenty of space to hang out & study or chat, as you wish.

This is exactly the place that should have always been there. I don’t like coffee, but they have a great selection of non coffee items as well. Great music, great atmosphere.

Adorable hole in the wall! I’m a huge fan of no name coffee shops, and this one is fantastic. The barista was super nice and easy on the eyes. The warm interior made up for the terrible weather. No pop songs playing in this place, but soulful crooners to relax the mind so you can enjoy your reasonably priced cup of joe

Overrated. There are far better coffee houses out there that serve far better coffee. This one just happens to be the only indy coffee shop in Milledgeville. I’d go there more often if they’d stop using WALMART brand soy milk in their coffee drinks. Unlike Starbucks’ soy milk, the WALMART brand has a really pungent soybean taste. I’d also appreciate it if the iced coffee were actually cold brewed. Their so-called smoothies, which consist of sugary boxed juice mixed with tea and then blended with ice, put me in a serious sugar coma even on my best days. These are definitely not health food smoothies. The one redeeming aspect of Blackbird is the pastries. They don’t have much variety, but the quality is good.

Blackbird is a staple for Milledgevillians, and, if you stop in, it’s unlikely you won’t see why. I’ve been coming here since my freshman year and it’s never disappointed. Chris, their head barista, roasts all their beans and does it well too. I’ve talked to him on multiple occasions about coffee/roasting and he looks at it as a craft similar to brewing and distilling. This outlook manifests it self in the top-notch quality of roasts he puts out, which largely dictate the quality of coffee. You can have the best beans in the world, but that doesn’t mean you can’t burn them! Another thing to note is that he hires and trains the staff with a similar mentality, so all the baristas that you might encounter are knowledgeable and passionate about coffee. Ask them to explain a specific brew to you and you might actually learn something. Of course, pour-over, french-press, and espresso are available, but I always jump to drip because it’s easy. The others don’t disappoint though, that’s where I had my favorite espresso ever. The atmosphere is great. The owners, Iona and Jimmy, have built the shop in a way that you can bury yourself in a corner to finish that paper due tomorrow, show a friend that Milly has a bit more ingenuity than Applebees/Starbucks, or meet a client/professor for a formal meeting. It’s hip(indie playing, local art on walls, exposed brick), but you don’t feel like you have to have horn rimmed glasses and skinny jeans to connect with workers/patrons. They’ve expanded their drinks and food to include a few beers and wines, both chosen with the same esteem as their coffee. No Bud Light or Coors here. I can’t comment on the quality, but friends have said they’re great. Just ask for a recommendation when you get to the counter and whatever barista is there will be able to give you something. Food is also great. I’ve grabbed a sandwich when I was busting out an assignment before class and I’ve never been disappointed. They also host quite a few events in the basement. Improv night on Thursdays starting at 8:00, and acoustic night Tuesdays at the same time, I believe. Quality of the show is hit or miss of course, but they’re fun to meet friends at. I wrote a profile on their Head Roaster, Chris Averitt for Georgia College’s campus newspaper. Might give you a better feel for the place. I summation, go here, even if you don’t like coffee. The atmosphere and the people here are reason enough, plus it’s quite the hangout of Milledgeville.

I like to think I’m an avid coffee drinker, especially black coffee. It’s a local coffee shop in Milledgeville, Georgia. Best part? They roast their own coffee beans and you get a fresh taste caffeine from Ethiopia to Columbia. They also provide non-coffee alternatives such as tea and smoothie. Some of my other favorites is the White Chocolate Mocha(never a let down) and a newer drink I recently tried, Honey Nut Soy. Yum!

We stopped here in search of ice cream, lemonade, and coffee. Yes that is a weird combination, but a honest one. They have a small but delicious variety of ice cream.(I know this because I had a bite of my brother’s of course) I would suggest ordering ice cream in a cone, because one scoop of ice cream in a cone equals out to about twice the amount of 2 scoops in a cup. Not sure why it goes that way, but it does. Their ice cream seems to have a few small pieces of ice in it, but the taste tells you that they must order it from somewhere special. Their coffee was good. It wasn’t too bold, and it was rich. It was something a little different and it seemed almost more of a specialty than some of the other coffee shops I’ve been to around were I live. I also ordered what I think was pomegranate lemonade. Whatever it was, it was good. A bit bitter, a bit sour and just enough sweetness to not be too subtle or over powering. It was a good option over coffee when it’s 95 degrees outside. The shop was long and skinny, so not a whole lot of moving around room but plenty of sitting space. It was fairly quite, and sometimes it almost felt like a library, so this would probably be a good study space. My friends and I were silly and each bought one of their T-Shirts. They had the cool black bird logo on them, and it’s extra-fun to have a T-Shirt from a place that it 100 miles away from were you live, so no one knows where it is :) It was a nice stop, and while a bit expensive, it was more than I expected out of a little coffee shop.

Drove all the way to Milledgeville to see a friend during my spring break. yes, i know sounds lame. i visited another college while i was on spring break –__– Knowing how much I LOVE coffee, I decided to try this place out since my friend kept raving about how Blackbird has the best coffee ever. On my first visit, I just ordered a regular hazelnut coffee and I was pretty impressed with it. It had a nice hazelnut roasty scent and they didn’t mask the flavor with loads of cream and sugar. perfect, just the way i like it. My second visit here was on the same day like 5 hours later. I needed it for the drive home. I ordered the dirty harry and it tasted great! i don’t remember what was in it, but ya just gotta try it! it was like some sort of frappucino lookin thing. Also, there’s a lot of room in this coffee shop with tables for studying and comfy chairs. However, not much snacks/desserts to choose from. I like to have a carb-rich scone to munch on while sippin on some fresh coffee!

This a great spot for a small batch roast coffee or just to relax from the Georgia heat. The baristas know a good deal about coffee and have a deep love for the perfect cup. The shop is small and quiet, the only times that you can’t count on getting a seat is finals week at the college. The pastries are ok, not made in house, they are planning to move in this direction soon. The coffee more than makes up for this, each batch is roasted and held until it is ready for brewing. Every aspect of the coffee process is taken into account, including the grinding and brewing temperature. Most of the baristas can make a drink to suit your daily tastes.

Great coffee shop that roasts their own beans! You have two options for coffee shops in Milledgeville: Black Bird and Jittery Joes, the best being Black Bird! Home made pastries and great espresso drinks. I’m partial to the Iced Mocha Latte. Espresso is slightly acidic but not bad if extra chocolate to balance. They have only one other Black Bird store and it’s in Dublin GA. I consider the Dublin Black Bird the end all BEST coffee shop I’ve ever experienced!!! Only two problems at this store: They don’t serve the Mocha Blender found in Dublin location and they over cook most all pastries including the cinn rolls and scones. They could take a few lessions from the Dublin location!

In Midge-town for a wedding, recovering in the too-early a.m. from the rehearsal dinner and associated shenanigans the evening prior, i was THRILLED to find this joint. …and DEVASTATED to find it empty. Why is this place not packed? Aah well, no matter. Barista hooked me up with a stiff shot — robust, balanced, thick crema — and a cheerfully laid-back greeting unique to this part of Georgia. One of the two patrons heard I was from out of town and proceeded to detail his cross-country travels, taste in music, political affiliation, etc. etc… Oh, I wish I could return!
