The owner Janet Alix is always present to greet us and always answers our questions, even if we are not purchasing. She is a delightful presence and whenever I’m in Mill Valley, I stop by her store to say hello and look. Her hand made, unique designs provoke the senses but still sensible.

Janet has such a wonderful store. My now-​fiancée and I worked with her to create an engagement ring designed just for me. I loved the look of vintage rings, but was worried that they wouldn’t hold up to my active career and lifestyle. She had great ideas about how to make the band strong, and the result was an amazing ring with a mix of vintage and modern class. I get tons of compliments on my ring, and everyone says they’ve never seen a ring quite like it! We were so pleased with her work that we got my fiancée’s wedding band from her as well. I would definitely recommend Alix and Company to anyone who is looking to create their perfect engagement ring.

Janet is a patient and highly skilled artisan. She designed my amazing wedding ring around my family diamond. It came out better than I could have ever imagined. I just love it. I also get tons of compliments on it. No one has ever seen such a beautiful and different ring.
Over the years I have also gotten earrings and a necklace that match the design of my wedding ring. They are equally gorgeous and unique. The work at Alix and Company is top notch and worth every penny.

This store is a real find for true jewelry connoisseurs who are not satisfied with pedestrian things that everyone else has; their work takes my breath away every time I walk past their windows and duck in to peek around. Owner and designer Janet Alix is a genius, and in-​house goldsmith Karen accomplishes amazing things. I don’t often have a chance to buy the kind of top quality, exquisitely-​designed pieces they make (all of which is designed and fabricated in-​house), or to have a piece custom designed, but I know where I’m going when I take the next plunge.
That said, when I found myself stuck in a bracelet that was my mother’s, unable to figure out the clasp, I headed over there in hopes they could extricate me. I asked them to just remove a stone while it was on me when even they couldn’t figure out how the clasp worked, so that we could visualize the mechanism. I ended up leaving the bracelet to have that stone reset and the prongs tightened on the rest of them, which I knew it needed. It wasn’t cheap, but the repair actually came in a lot less expensive than they initially estimated, which was a very pleasant surprise. Repairing outside items like this is quite obviously not their main areas of focus, but everyone there was absolutely wonderful and welcoming, and so very helpful.

I went to Alix & Co. to help me figure out the type of engagement ring my, then girlfriend now wife, wanted. Janet helped us so much in designing and choosing an engagement ring that my wife loves! Everyone there is so friendly and eager to help. It’s a very nice space with many beautiful pieces on display.

I’d seen Janet’s beautiful Leaf & Vine rings before getting married, and ended up getting one around the time of my fifth anniversary. I couldn’t be more pleased with the ring and with the experience of working with Janet! She answered about a million questions (I’m far away, so couldn’t just stop in), made sure I was ordering a ring that would fit with other rings I wear; and when sizing didn’t come out perfectly the first time (as one might expect with a complex ring of this kind), she was a dream to work with: friendly, professional, efficient, everything great. The ring is just magnificent! Beautiful and classic, a little bit unexpected, understated — everything I wanted. I couldn’t recommend this shop or Janet more highly. When we can afford it, I plan to have my mother’s engagement stone reset by her for the other hand!

I have lived in Mill Valley for 14 years and have admired the jewelry at Alix and Company for that long. I have always dreamed of having my wedding/​engagement ring made here. My dream came true, when after much searching, my fiancé and I ended up at Alix and Company to see if we could collaborate on my engagement ring. I wanted conflict free diamonds, man made gems, and we also wanted to use recycled diamonds from our families rings in the setting.
That is where Janet Alix stepped in and offered us all that we could hope for. She worked with me in close collaboration as the ring design evolved. We started with blue man made saphires, then she suggested pink sapphires and I chose rose gold to compliment the pink. The ring was based on a beautigul wedding band design by Janet, but now has a pad saphire center stone and larger band. (it is one of a kind!!!)
Even when the process took longer than we expected, Janet compensated us and stood behind her product. Not many businesses have the type of integrity that Alix and Company has anymore, or the honesty. I was deeply impressed, and the ring is absolutely INCREDIBLE.
We also purchased our wedding ring from Janet and now will be life long customers and advocates of her jewelry.

My Fiancée and I purchased my beautiful engagement ring from Janet last year. We have been thrilled with it ever since. Our experience with Janet and her staff has been amazing. We stop in often just to say hello and are now both planning to buy our wedding bands there. If you are a unique individual and appreciate beautifully designed and well made jewelry or want jewelry that’s not the typical ‘every girl has one’, I highly recommend checking out her collections. I get so many compliments on my rose cut diamond ring because its so unique and the setting is also! (Except Matthew McConaughey did just buy his new wife a huge rose cut:) It’s definitely great to shop and support your local business especially knowing you can always go back in with any future updates, cleanings, sizing’s etc with no problem! 5 stars for Alix and Co. Big Fan!!!

Had a disappointing experience regarding custom work Janet the jeweler did for me. In discussing the work, I asked for a quote of what the work would cost. I went forward with that number in mind, knowing it was liekely to be more. However, when work was complete, it was over double. When I pointed that out to Janet, she shrugged and said she hadn’t included the labor in the quote or all of the supplies. She had quoted me the labor, which I told her. I thought her approach to providing a quote was lazy and lacked integrity.

If you’re looking for something that is a cut above — with a little more uniqueness and personality — I can’t recommend this place enough. This store feels great to be in — it’s clean and upscale, and the staff are all great. The designer is also the owner so all the pieces are unique and really nicely done, and she’ll consult with you about what you have in mind. Even the window displays always look great! I like to go in here all the time and browse, and several of my very favorite pieces of jewelry are from here. I generally like more simple understated jewelry — which is why I LOVE my white-​gold earrings in a leaf pattern from Alix and Company, with the small subtle diamonds embedded in them. But even though I usually am not drawn to the more flashy styles, when I go in here I get converted. They can do big and sparkly with sooooo much class.

My husband and I purchased both of our wedding rings from Alix & Co. We incorporated an heirloom diamond that he had inherited, which they set into a «leaf & vine» ring, with rubies along the band. I get constant compliments on it, it’s so unique and beautiful. Janet Alix and her staff are real treasures, too. They are all warm, friendly, and welcoming, without being pushy. Like Sasha, my husband and I just came in to look, but were taken in by the gorgeous jewelry and the friendly, helpful people. Four years later, we still love our rings, and we still stop by to say hello to Janet and her staff when we’re in town. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for something gorgeous for someone special (including yourself!).

Having never been a fan of the bling, I had both myself and my guy stumped at how to go about doing my engagement ring. I came to Unilocal to see where others had had success. I saw the reviews on Janet at Alix and Co. and decided we should pay her a visit.

I thought I wanted a variety of stacking bands with little or no stones and my guy kept saying, «we could add a center stone to that, right?» It took us numerous visits where we went though our options. Do we use some loose family diamonds or not? How durable and low profile can we make that? Thick band or numerous skinny ones? We were all over the map!
Through the whole process Janet was incredibly patient and realistic about what works with who you are. Her ability to hear what you like, coupled with her artistic abilities and candor made this experience wonderful.
Janet gently guided us to a ring that we both love. She really gets that you both need to feel connected to the ring and the process. I loved that Janet wanted our ring to have some «soul to it.» How cool is that! This woman is truly the most stunning jem in the store. The other ladies in the store are equally as sweet and helpful, however, Janet is clearly the Artisan.
Along the way I also had Janet reset a pair of earrings for me. She did a great job with these as well. We are now having her design our wedding bands. I never though I would be so excited about jewelery. But working with Janet and getting to see the end result, a piece of jewelry that is custom to what I like is quite exciting.

I consider myself a jewelry connoisseur, and Alix and Company is like heaven for me. It’s a lovely little store in my hometown with breathtaking jewelry. The designs are so incredible — intricate and so unique. The stones are beautiful too, but the real draw is the graceful designs — I’ve never seen nicer ones anywhere. I always stop in there when I’m walking around downtown Mill Valley, and Janet, the designer, and the other ladies who work there are so lovely and make you feel so welcome — I always end up staying and chatting for a long time.
I’ve coveted their jewelry for so long, and my husband just bought me a piece as a gift after I had our daughter. It’s a gorgeous ring with a flower and leaf motif that they custom made for me. I got to choose the metal and the stones (white diamonds or colored), and ended up with rose gold and white diamonds. They had to alter the design a bit for me to fit my somewhat freakishly narrow fingers, and it turned to be just stunning. It was also a pleasure to work with them and see the piece come together. Check them out if you’re in the market for fine jewelry — their stuff is so incredible that you’ll wonder why you ever considered overpriced and generic jewelry like Tiffany or Cartier.

Janet is AWESOME. husband and I initially went to peruse, just to look, and I ended up walking out of the store, Janet’s card in hand, babbling excitedly about the Perfect Ring she was going to create for us! granted, my babbling excitedly isn’t all that uncommon an occurrence, but husband was also excited as well. she took the time to hang with us, listen to what we wanted, and basically conjured up a piece of jewelry/​art that we adore, and I will treasure. she has such a sweet, unassuming style, and is very prompt with followup. just a darling woman with fabulous jewelry.
