Friendly staff who are very willing to help find what you want. Great selection of books, artwork, and even fabric. I wish they had the bakery inside instead of just selling the treats in plastic containers, but whatever.

The most outrageous shopping experience of my life. Such disappointment in a church store. Imagine just getting your temple recommend, and going through the temple for the first time. You’re not really sure what anything is, and you’re not sure what to buy. You’re unsure what type of garments you’ll need, or what fabric, etc… It’s scary! That’s why you need someone beside you to help you every step of the way. I was lucky, because my parents helped me. My wife’s family lives out of state, so we were on our own. But, what we didn’t expect to be treated with such hostility and rudeness. If I received the level of treatment we received at Deseret Book at Walmart. I’d be outraged. But, words can’t describe how disappointed I am with Deseret Book. We had 2 awful experiences. 1. The first time we went on a quiet weeknight. There were 5 employees in the store, and one other customer. Is was obvious that this customer also going to the temple for the first time, because she had an employee helping her with every step of the process.(Picking a temple dress for her, her daughter, garments, etc…) This is what we wanted and expected; an employee such as this lady, helpful and respectful. That’s not what we got. We pretty much had to hunt down the employees and beg them to help us. We were treated with unhelpful short answers, and then they’d turn around and go away. It was a little frustrating. So we figured that the staff wasn’t properly trained, or that the good staff worked different nights, so we only bought a dress that night. To add insult to injury, when we were purchasing the dress, the employee who was so dilligent in avoiding us and helping us said, «By the way, all of us employees were talking in the back, and I remembered that you were breaking store policy. That dress is trail edition, and you you’re not supposed to unzip the zipper. You could have ruined it.» I was baffled why the employees were talking about us in the back instead of helping us, and I was baffled that store associated talked to a customer that way.(Especially after we bought the dress!) 2. It was a busy Saturday.(1÷24÷15), they were down a person. I get that it was busy and hard to attend to all the customers. I worked retail. My wife was a little nervous and overwhelmed with trying to decide which garments to buy. She called her mom, and her mom said that at their local Distribution Center back in Washington, they had Try-Ons, stuff you could use to help determine your size, but weren’t real garments. As my wife was calling her mom, I saw a lady ask one of the sales associates for help. When my wife was done with her phone call, we waited 5 minutes in line to ask a sales associate for help. When it was our turn, a lady came up and said, «You told me that there was someone on the floor that can help me. But, there wasn’t anybody out there. « The sales associated apologized politely and explained that they were short 1 staff member and that she would help her as soon as she could. A perfect respectful answer. My wife asked if they had Try-Ons(idk what they’re called exactly), but she was rudely interupted. The lady said, «One does NOT wear garments before being endowed! But, I guess you can if you want. *hint of sarcasm* «. Then my wife explained that she so desperately needed help. The lady replied, «You’ll just have to wait a LONG time. «That was the last straw, and made my wife break down and cry. The attendant quickly looked to the next customer and motioned them to step forward. No apology. No sincerity. No compassion. No love. No remorse. No customer service. I was so shocked and outraged. Needless to say, I will NEVER being going back to this location. I will be calling the store manager next week and demanding an explanation, I will update this review.

Their rewards program saves me A LOT of money. I’m sad they closed their café with quiche, pies, rolls, etc. I buy books, music, fabrics, gifts, church supplies, etc. here. The employees are usually helpful.

What the what? How did I miss a full on fabric store inside of Deseret Book? A FABRICSTORE? So, I was in the neighborhood and popped in. Maybe it was just to smell the rolls. But I looked up to the second floor and could have sworn I saw bolts of fabric lining the walls. But this is Deseret Book, right? Up the stairs I go, and sure enough that place is packed with fabric. Maybe technically the thing is a Mormon Handicraft, but there it is under the same roof so I’m calling it part of Deseret Book for now. Here’s the low down on the fabric: it’s really cute. Like, super darling, adorbs, and totally quiltworthy. Polka dots like crazy, paisley, stripes, and lots of flowery darling things.

I do love Deseret Book, but I don’t go there very often because I always end up spending too much money. My favorite thing about this one is smelling the Lion House rolls… I could hover by that counter all afternoon. This store is huge and has a great bargain selection, plus some beautiful artwork upstairs. You can always find something here to buy!
