One of the best places to eat of this type in the area. Service was great. The people were very nice. The price was great.

Great hibachi teriyaki shrimp and volcano rolls! Don’t let the exterior throw you off. Go inside and eat some damn good food!

A very surprising gem in midlothian. Has great hibachi style food and decent sushi. When I have a craving for Asian food, this is my new go to. The appearance of the building does take some getting used to, but once you get past the old dairy queen façade it is well worth the trip inside. A special tip: be sure to sign up for their rewards program, it’s free and in a few visits can save you some serious money.

So few places to go, if any, for decent, non-fast food, non-southern/steak/BBQ cuisine within many miles. Like, it’s depressing to look for something decent in the whole area on Unilocal. However, this is great find. Not so much for the ambience(it’s an ex-Dairy Queen after all, albeit upgraded a bit), but for the service and food quality. We had a large party and tried lots of dishes – everyone including the kids walked away quite satisfied, and very few of the party were familiar enough to even know what to even order from the menu. It is definitely worth upgrading to some of the premium rolls like the sumo or cowboy rolls since the sauces and toppings make for a rich flavor experience. Meat-only eaters can enjoy the teriyaki or hibachi plates if too timid to try the sushi or rolls. Miso soup is a great deal for $ 2, and the seaweed salad is very tasty. Prices seem quite reasonable for a sushi restaurant when compared to big city equivalents. Well deserving of 5 stars in a city like Midlothian where you don’t expect this kind of food, provided you don’t expect a Uchi level experience. After being misled by so many inflated reviews of other restaurants on Unilocal, this one was on the mark. Most likely will return at some point when in the area again. The only downside I can think of is having to order from the counter and have it delivered to the table, but perhaps that contributes to the lower prices.

This is honestly one of the best hibachi places I’ve been to! The food is succulent and they give big portions for the price. The service is good and they really care about the customers. They also offer a rewards program where all they need is your phone number and when you get to 10 points you get 10 dollars off your next order. I wish there was more locations throughout the DFW metroplex. I don’t care about the drive to get good quality food! I love it here and would recommend to anyone who would want an authentic taste in the hibachi taste.

Love this food! A little pricy but you do get a decent serving size with all dishes. It was a busy night when I decided to get take out and I waited for a very long time seriously like 40 minutes maybe they forgot my order. I should’ve used the drive through, it probably would have been quicker service than waiting inside. The food is always yummy.

Love this place! Great service — enjoy the call ahead, pick up convenience. Excellent salmon sashimi, and large variety of rolls that are equally good. Midlothian needed this place, and we are glad you picked our town. We will be back!

My wife and I are transplants from Los Angeles to Midlothian. We have had sushi from all the L.A. Hot spots, from Nobu to Tokyo Garden and this place rates right up there with them. I had the Texas Roll and 3 orders of the Yellow Tail Tuna. Delicious. And my wife had the Chicken Fried Rice and it was delicious also. Will be there many more times in the near future.

This is the best place to eat in the entire city. My family decided to try it out, despite the external appearance of the restaurant. It used to be an old Dairy Queen, and the outside is a little offputting the first time you go there. Just overlook the outward appearance and head inside. I’ve eaten here twice now, and both times the food and service have been top notch. We have tried several of their rolls, and none have disappointed. Their fried rice keeps the kids happy, and they don’t skimp on the meats in it, either. The food has arrived quickly and in the correct order each time we’ve been.

Went there for the first time last night, and this place far exceeded expectations! It looks like a repurposed Dairy Queen, but the food and service are just spectacular! I ordered the Teryaki Sirloin Steak with veggies and brown rice. My wife ordered the Hibachi Tilapia with veggies, and both of us were very pleased. Portions were perfect, especially when my wife got extra veggies, since she did not order rice. Teryaki sauce was just right, light and flavorful, and not drenched on like syrup. Prices were amazing, including a glass of wine for less than 5 bucks! It’s a little out of the way for us, but we will be back!

I’m incredibly impressed after trying the food for the first time. It doesn’t surprise me though, knowing AJ’s propensity for perfection in past. His new venture will not disappoint your palette. The staff are courteous and helpful and truly echo AJ. Thank you again.

The first thing that struck me about this restaurant was how creatively someone repurposed an old Dairy Queen and made it a really nice looking restaurant. They also have great hibachi selections and other items but I have been back three times in 10 days now to get the sumo roll. Absolutely delicious and really makes two meals if you want to break it down for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. Each time I have been Cameron has taken my order and he is great. –super attentive. This place is not convenient to my home but worth driving across town for well priced delicious sushi and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Rising Sun is consistently good. There is something for everyone. Veggiesaurus, Vegansaurus, Meatasaurus? No problem! They even have gluten free options. Teriyaki isn’t overly sweet and Hibachi is savory. They will mix and match any veggies with any entreé upon request. Want Teriyaki Chicken but don’t like broccoli? They got you covered with mixed veggies. Like your Dragon(fly) roll sans cuke? They make it like you want it. Craving something fried? The spring rolls are to die for. The staff is always friendly and the place is always clean. I’m very happy to be a regular here.

A welcome change from the plethora of fast food chains in town! The food tastes very fresh, we like the rolls and the variety on the menu. The only downside is the pricing seems to have gone up over the last several months. An order of hibachi and one roll gets up to almost $ 20, kinda pricey for a per person average. On the whole, if you need good and fresh food with an Asian flair, they’re worth checking out for sure!(Ask for yum yum sauce– it’s boss)

Wife and I enjoyed dinner at Rising Sun tonight. Their bar is now set-up and fully stocked and they seem to be building something on the back side, perhaps another walk-in refrigeration room? Anyway … We arrived in the door and was greeted by A.J., who was behind the bar. He asked if we had ever tried Sake. We had tried it previously(elsewhere), but he offered a sample of a few different types and so we acquiesced. We tried three samples, all were good, but one we clearly liked — a Nigiri Sake(unfiltered). We both ordered a glass of wine($ 4) to go with dinner, a nice Moscato form Chile as well as iced tea. For appetizers we ordered the Edamame and Sashimi Yellow Fin Tuna. The entrées we ordered were the Hibachi Shrimp, sub fried rice(mine, as usual) and my wife had the(NEW) Hibachi Tilapia with broccoli, instead of the rice. Our Edamame arrived 1st and was obviously cooked fresh and salted just right. Shortly thereafter our YF Tuna arrived, wonderfully presented as a rose on ice with some fresh flower petals. Dang it — I forgot to take a picture. Need to do that because the presentation is spectacular. The YF Tuna tasted perfect, obviously very fresh and sliced well. It was gone quickly as we both devoured it. I asked for a little wasabi and dipped it in soy sauce; my wife had a few pieces with a little fresh ginger. The entrées came and were again well presented. My wife’s Tilapia was grilled very nice — she asked for one filet($ 9), we understand there is a option for two. One filet with the broccoli was just the right size for her. She loved it. My Hibachi Shrimp was as great as ever — one thing I really like is the small amount of b/w sesame seeds they always sprinkle on the top of the rice for decorative purposes — nice touch. We were almost finished with our wine and entrees when my sister and her husband came in — what a nice surprise. They ordered the Hibachi Shrimp, sub Zucchini instead of Mushrooms and the Hibachi Scallops and a appetizer of the«Peppered» WF Tuna. The appetizer came out 1st and I sampled a bit — wonderful … slightly seared with pepper crust, then sliced — served with an avocado slice and a sauce that I believe had just a hint of sage in it. Very good, see picture. I also had a scallop from my brother-in-laws’ plate and it was cooked perfectly. Scallops can often be rubbery, undercooked, and chewy — these were perfect. Although I don’t often eat scallops, just because of the cooking challenges. They both finished their plates as well and we all left about the same time. It was nice to have dinner with them and unexpectedly. We’ve been continuing to dine at Rising Sun, perhaps every other week since they opened and they continue to impress with their professionalism, creativity, and excellent food. A.J. and others have come to learn our names(and other customers as well) and at times will ensure to give us a personal thanks on our way out. We really enjoy the place. Still hard for us to believe it was the DQ all these years. Great addition to Midlothian and now in business for a little over one year as well. Congrats — we heard their 1st anniversary party was very nice. Today, when we were sampling the Sake, A.J. did say he was thinking of having a Sake tasting event on the patio in a few weeks, when it warms up for more than a few days at a time. If we get a chance to attend, we will.
