My first visit here… And chose Katana because of terrific reviews. I ordered the Katana Holic specialty roll and was not disappointed. I also ordered eel sushi, scallop and fish eggs. These are all my fave flavors. Everything was made fresh and was about the best I’d ever had. I highly recommend. Also my friend is now counting eel as one of his faves too… Try it!

This place has some of the best sushi that I have ever had. I had 4 rolls and an order of the shumai and it was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely go back any time that i am in the area.

I had no idea this place was here… but I sure know it now, thanks to fellow Unilocal’ers. We went on a Monday night, hence had most of the place to ourselves. The restaurant was adequately large, and very clean. Service was very friendly and relatively fast given a slim Monday crowd. The sushi was fantastic. I’m not a huge sushi connoisseur, but this was certainly as good as anywhere I’ve ever eaten. We had the Beach Roll and the FireFire, and both were excellent. We will certainly be back!

WOW — not a total surprise, since this area is becoming less Jimbobwe and more metro every day, but dayum did this place bring the sushi thunder on my first(and so far only) visit. Something for everyone here, including the«raw fish is bait!» crowd. The miso soup and green salad had me flashing back to my days exploring every new sushi place in lower Manhattan from the late ‘70s to the early ‘00s. Everything we had was wonderful — fresh and fresh, beautifully presented(added humor: the large sushi platters seem to be remaindered Italian restaurant platters), and generously portioned. I’ll be going back here anytime I find myself in New Jers … er, Midlothian, and hunting for some reallyreally good sushi.

Excellent! My wife and I love it here. Not only is the food wonderful, but they are all just so nice and pleasant. The quality and presentation of their maki is wonderful, and it all tastes as delicious as it looks. Come to think of it, I think we need to go there again this week.

BYFARTHEBESTSUSHIINRICHMOND. I have been to every sushi establishment in the fan over the past 3 years and have been sorely disappointed in the quality. I thought there was not decent sushi in this area until I went to Katana and found incredible sushi. Please get Omakase. It is $ 25 but the portions are the most generous I have ever had and also go on a Wednesday or Friday(fish comes in on Tuesday and Thursday). The real star of the order was the rice… just wow.

This is not only the best sushi in Richmond, it’s some of the best sushi I’ve had anywhere.(Including New York, D.C., Hawaii, Miami, and California.) I wasn’t expecting much in light of my past experiences with Richmond’s sushi scene but Katana is truly great. We both ordered omakase, which(in my humble opinion) is the best test of the skills of both a sushi chef and the restaurant’s fish quality. It was perfect. All of the pieces of nigiri were cut evenly and skillfully.(The primary form of sushi we were given here was nigiri; the omakase also included California maki and cucumber/tuna/salmon/yellowtail maki.) The fresh fish was the focus: a light play of flavor on the tongue for each piece, accented by a tiny bit of wasabi between the perfectly cooked and packed rice and the slice of fish. The textures were the best — melt in your mouth for some pieces, the perfect bit of chew for others. The temperature was also ideal.(Warm-ish raw sushi and very cold raw sushi both = no.) We got two pieces of cooked unagi nigiri on our omakase platter and I don’t know which sauce the sushi chef ladled lightly over them but it was tangy and salty like the sea, accenting the eel. All of the pieces of nigiri were also HUGE. We realized after we had both gotten about halfway through our platters that one order of omakase would have sufficed. This is hands down the best sushi in Richmond for sushi purists. We’ll be back often.(Pro tip: They get their fresh fish in on Monday so Tuesday is the best day to come in!)

Simply amazing! Their udon soup is very clean yet full of flavor and their sushi very tasty! The lunch menu is available on Saturdays too and the prices are reasonable compared to the proportion of food you get(and we can eat a lot)! Atmosphere is simple, relaxing, and cute! Service is attentive & friendly. Definitely be returning again soon!

Finally real sushi in Midlothian! Our entire family is die-hard sushi lovers and we have been underwhelmed with the suburbanized sushi in the area(re: steak rolled in rice then fried with mayo). Katana is the real deal; they even have toro sashimi on occasion. My personal favorite is spicy chiroshi bowl which is tons of sashimi with spicy red pepper Korean sauce(omg). Great value and they are very toddler/preschooler tolerant.

It is a shame I haven’t had a chance to go here recently. Some of the best sashimi I have ever had and a friendly staff. Definitely worth checking out. Great change of pace vs. capital ale house next door. But small location.

Friendly service. They made a mistake on one of my rolls so made a special accommodation on another which was nice of them. Cozy place and sushi is well prepared/fresh for a small shop in the middle of no where. The rolls do not have exorbitant amounts of rice and have a decent amount of filling. The regular rolls(spicy tuna, California, etc.) are kind of small where you get 6 pieces. Definitely would recommend just ordering larger specialty rolls instead. Brown rice offered as well. Heard someone ask for the free wifi password.

Great sushi and extremely friendly service! I’m so happy to have come across Katana. All the fish is extremely fresh and the tamago was excellent. Rolls were beautifully made. My sister and I got one of the combos with 2 big specialty rolls for about $ 24-not bad considering they were pretty large! We also had the tuna tataki, which was generously cut and topped with a delicious miso sesame tasting sauce. The meal also included a complimentary appetizer edamame and some kind of fried veggie with cheese-very nice touch. We left happy and very satisfied!

I am so glad my husband and I chose this to be our date spot that one busy Friday night since other restaurants were too packed. It was quiet and inviting. We were the last two to be served before closing. The waiter was awesome! He took his time to explain the menu and offered to customize our sushi with our favorite ingredients. I had baked sushi with salmon, eel, cream cheese, and avocado(I forgot to ask for cucumber). It was topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo. DELICIOUS!!! So delicious that I didn’t even realize my salmon was raw rather than cooked as I expected. It didn’t matter because the flavors burst into my mouth and hit the right spot in my belly. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed his baked sushi as well. We are returning in the next few days. I’m sure we’ll become regulars as long as the food and service remains A1.

This is a cozy little place with fresh and delicious sushi, lovingly prepared. The sushi chef has sent out free samples of a variety of dishes each time we have been(about 4x). Seaweed salad with tuna-a delicious and unexpectedly savory sampler, and a couple of other appetizers. We love the Kenny roll, the Bayside roll, the Nemo roll(because it has delicious and melt-in-your-mouth white tuna) and the Katana special. All are assorted fresh and cooked fish(eel). Yum! Hong is the waiter and extremely knowledgable about sushi and offering appropriate choices. We will keep coming back! Sit on the sushi bar side– the other side looks rather unfinished and boring. Great house Sauvignon blanc, as well!

Love this place! Just give them a chance and you will too It reopened under new management about a month ago. My husband and I haven’t missed a week since they reopened. The staff is exceptional and the sushi is top knoch! l enjoy the Beach Roll and today my husband found his new favorite, the Bamboo Roll… nom nom nom If you’re in the mood for something and don’t see it on the menu, just ask. I was in the mood for some steamed broccoli but it wasn’t on the menu. I asked the waiter and was told«I’ll get you some, would you like it seasoned?»
