I had taken my family for lunch and by the time we left it was almost dinner time. Being the only ones waiting to be seated it felt like an eternity before we even reached our table. When finally seated we ordered our meals and waited nearly 40 minutes before our waiter told us that our food would be arriving shortly. Shortly must have meant 20 minutes because that’s when our food finally arrived. So we waited an hour for mediocre and overpriced food. There was no sense of urgency from the wait staff. There were other patrons who were frustrated with the staff and the ridiculous wait time. I will never make this mistake again.

My experience this afternoon while enjoying what was supposed to be a nice lunch with my elderly father, turned into an apology for having suggested this restaurant. We walked in at 12:45 and were greeted promptly, then led to a dirty booth in the back. Our waitress came with a ceramic dinner plate that contained our napkins, forks and knives. The plate had some gross baked on cheese in the corner of it which had to have been obvious to her but she left it anyway. We took some time to go through the menu and I looked around the dining room. There were only about 7 tables on a Saturday and I wondered why, because it was the heart of lunch time and it should be packed. I was about to find out why. Once we ordered she brought out the soda and the sides of the glass looked cloudy but I didn’t say anything. There was no straw left with the soda so I waited another 5 minutes until a waitress came by and I asked her for a straw. 5 more minutes passed and I got a straw finally. Time went by and we were both getting so hungry. I looked down at my phone and it was 1:17 already! I told dad this is crazy it has been over a half hour since we ordered and our order consisted of salad, soups and a grilled cheese sandwich! I could understand if it was a burger or a Reuben or something but it was the 3 easiest things on the menu! The food was finally served at 1:23 and it was so cold I asked the waitress to please take my soup back and zap it. She brought it back to me 5 minutes later and it was slightly warmer but about ½ the size from when it went back because when they heated it in the microwave it boiled over the sides and you couldn’t even touch the crock to tip it because the sides were all gooey and covered with clam chowder. Dad ate his tomato basil soup cold because he was so hungry and didn’t want to wait anymore. His grilled cheese sandwich was the thinnest sandwich I had ever seen! It looked like 2 slices of cheese slapped in between a pancake! It was stone cold and a soggy limp blob that I would never eat but he ate it anyway. All he talked about on the way over was a Friendly’s Sundae but after the meal neither one of us had any desire to eat anything prepared from there anymore so we went over to Sweet Frog. I used the bathroom while I was there and it was disgusting, dirty, pee on the seats, and smelled like urine in the stalls. I have never felt so grossed out over a meal in my life and can assure you that I will never be dining at that Friendly’s location ever again!

Today my daughter had to get a bunch of shots at the doctors office. What better the nice cream for lunch to make you feel better. I haven’t been to a friendlys restaurant in years. But it was exactly what I expected. The food was good. Not great. That is why only 4 stars. But I wasn’t expecting fine dining. The sandwich I got was supposed to have au jus with it. But it was straight soy sauce I think. Not terrible I just used less. The bright spot was really the waitress. I think her name was Taryn. She was real sweet and interacted great with my daughter. She could tell we just got back from the doctors, I guess because of the sticker and lolly pop. Good old classic place. Rinds me of being young. Wish I saved room for dessert.

Wow, it has been 30 years since my last visit and I had the trademark burger in the cheese sandwich, it was tasty, moist, hot and delicious, served with hot crispy fries and sweet iced tea this lunch was topped with a couple of scoop of delicious creamy icecream with walnuts and hot fudge. I have to stop by more often!

Do not eat here unless you have unlimited time on your hands. Seriously, this is the slowest restaurant I’ve ever been to in my life. My daughter and I have come here many times. Each time, I find myself saying«we are never coming back here again». I thought I would give them a chance, because I read that they were under new management. Well, nothing’s changed. It’s a definite case of «meet the new boss, same as the old boss». It’s just as slow as it ever was. We went once just for ice cream and it still took us an hour to get out of there. The food isn’t that good that I’m willing to wait for it ever again. We were once in this fly-infested restaurant for 3 hours, I kid you not. There is absolutely no sense of urgency to anything they do. To make matters worse, they’ve gotten our orders wrong several times, but we had waited so long just to get any food at all that we put up with it and just ate what we got. Believe me when I say that we are never going back to this establishment. I’ve been burned one too many times. There are plenty of other options available.

From time to time we find ourselves in the area and on a few occasions we’ve gone in w/6 – 8 people. Mostly just 2 – 4. There’s nothing on the menu that’s difficult to make… simple food. The ice cream is OK… but I can think of 5 – 6 brands I’d rather have. But most of those brands are in grocery stores. Let me be easy, I could give this store anywhere from 1 – 3 stars. It doesn’t seem to matter if business is busy or slow… they are always slower and slower. I have for the last few yr not ordered anything except ice cream. To order a sandwich is an experience of purgatory… maybe eternity .i have to laugh, but… this is the slowest restaurant I’ve ever been in… ever! I might add… molasses moves uphill faster. If you’re in w/o anywhere to go but home. And you have no timetable at all you can go! Patience is not just a virtue here it’s a necessity!
