We really liked this ice cream shop. The shop itself is nice with plenty of seating and the owner is friendly. The ice cream was delicious and there were so many interesting flavors. I tried Northern Lights which was red velvet with marshmallow and chocolate chips. It was very good.

Fantastic ice cream! Lots of interesting flavors, even if some aren’t constantly kept in circulation. All of the products are superbly high quality, and I highly recommend trying one of the freshly-made waffle cones. If you’re really looking to indulge, try out a shake or sundae. They’re huge, but so worth it!

Don’t get the bay blueberry. It was like licking ice. Honey badger takes what it wants and he/she(gender equality) would not be taking this.

OMG. Love this place. They make all their own ice cream on premises. I had a nice chat w the owner. He was very nice though he seemed a little jaded toward social media review sites. Not sure what that was about since that’s how we found them! They have some excellent unique flavors. Daughter and I got chocolate peanut butter and it was delicious! Love the deck out front, we were able to sit there with our dog and enjoy our ice cream. A great experience! Come get ice cream here, you’ll love it!!!

Mediocre at best. Ice creams are pretty bland/lack distinct flavor. Unfortunately, Midland doesn’t have a lot of ice cream joints. I’d just go there to support local business. DQ is much better if you are craving for a sweet treat.

Typical Midland: overpriced and rude. This ice cream is homemade and high-quality; you can’t go wrong with the taste. However, the flavors are very limited and inconsistent; if you find a flavor you like, it may not be there the next time. My family and I used to go more often but they raised their prices and rarely carry the flavors I like anymore. It’s hard to get any kind of standard flavor because they always have«creative» ones(some are a bigger miss than others) and $ 3.50 for one single-scoop ice cream cone is too much, especially for this area. They’re currently offering a special«family pack» of two single waffle cones and two kids cones for $ 10. We ordered that special but my husband is allergic to wheat and therefore can’t eat waffle cones, so we asked if he could get his single scoop in a bowl instead. The owner offered to put it in a waffle bowl, and when I explained that my husband couldn’t have wheat ATALL, the owner rolled his eyes at me and said that he couldn’t make that substitution because then he’d have to offer substitutions to everyone. Seeing as how waffle cones are usually an extra charge at other places, I don’t see why he couldn’t put it in just a regular bowl. We weren’t asking for anything extra; it was the same amount of ice cream! We chose to leave and went to another local ice cream shop instead; it may not have been made on site but the ice cream scoops were both bigger and a dollar cheaper. We used to be regulars at Great Lakes but we’re not going back. There was no reason for the owner to be so inflexible and rude, and since there are cheaper, equally good options elsewhere, there’s no reason to pay the higher prices for Great Lakes. Rolling your eyes at people who have food allergies when you’re charging $ 3.50 and up for an ice cream cone is just bad business.

Outside: Whimsical Inside: Local ice cream parlor charm Food: Ice cream fresh made with a few unique flavors Service: Uninformed friendly Cost: Willing to pay what they ask Ice cream is a food group to me. So the warning here is this review may be a bit pretentious. The only thing I focus on is the sweet and cold treat. For a local place the choices, quality, and creativity is something to experience. I had a double in a waffle cone and was great. Here is why this place is only getting a 3. The wifey ordered her flavor and thought she was getting one thing and the flavor had more ingredients than what was listed on the sign. She was wanting something with no gluten. Brownies where in the mix and not listed, to top it off the servers could not answer questions to simple flavor questions. The scary thing is that if this happened to us on our first visit, what else is missing in their standards control. Leaves one thinking. So, long story short for an experience it is worth a visit, and the cost. Do not go for stellar service or well trained associates. If in Midland we may stop, but unlikely. If we would choose to want their ice cream we could visit St. Laurent Brothers in Bay City. No drive and close to home.

Great little ice cream shop with freshly made ice cream. They even experiment with new flavors and let you try them. Friendly service and good portions for the price.

It’s hard to go wrong with fresh, locally made ice cream … and Great Lakes Ice Cream Co. has some of the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten. The best value there, in my experience, is a double scoop in a cup.(Unless something was screwy the time I ordered a single in a cup, it actually is cheaper to get a double). AND you can get two different flavors in your double. But I won’t promise that having two choices will make it any easier to decide on what to get! Spring Break(mmm … coconut!) and Chocolate w/Peanut Butter are two of my favorites. Lots of people seem to enjoy Dog Puke, but I have yet to try it. A tip: Join Great Lakes Ice Cream’s Facebook page; Scot, the owner, posts some ridiculously good specials there on occasion. In fact, it was because of one of those specials that I finally tried something other than a straight-up dish of ice cream(a Banana Bowl Sundae), and it, too, was delicious.

Great ice cream from a locals run shop. They make their own flavors, are very friendly, have reasonable prices, and their selections rival any other chain shop. though the fact that they make it on site tastes even better. I found this place while craving ice cream after a camping trip and looked it up on Unilocal,so glad I did not stop at some other place. Definitely worth the quick jaunt off the highway. I will go back again!
