I love S n’ S, but this one takes the rotten cake. Stopped in tonight with an all-but-empty test stop, and it was a 7 minute wait for a burger and fries(they didn’t have the shake flavor I wanted, although the manager suggested they give me another version that«would taste just the same.» No, thank you). The woman in front of me waited 12 minutes for an order of chicken tenders. Ridiculous. But, we were entertained by the 4 employees having a heated discussion about what time they’d be leaving tonight! In fact, the manager got his meal and ate it in the time we were still waiting for ours. Skip this place.

We stopped on the turnpike and the only choice was steak and shake. Never tried it before and definitely will never go to any steak and shake again. The food was gross! It was a shakedown no matter How hungry you are. Don’t waste your time or your money.

The wait was well over ten minutes for the food and over 15 for the shakes. My cookie dough shake lacked flavor and was made with eggnog shake even though that wasn’t listed on the menu. Needless to say I won’t be back here.

You guys I love Steak ‘n Shake, but this one was just a huge disappointment! My family and I were traveling all day and we wanted to get something to eat! First of all the employees were just playing around, while people were waiting on their orders! Second there wasn’t much to choose from the menu! Lastly, which was the worst part of it all! Our burgers were cold!!! I’m sorry but u don’t give cold food to customers, I don’t care how tired you may be, but you don’t give cold food to customers! I’m sorry!!! This was a real disappointment! If you are ever traveling to jersey! Don’t stop at this travel plaza to eat at this Steak ‘n Shake; ever!

This steak and SHAKE told us their shake machine was down. This was not due to the machine being Dow but due to the employees not wanting to clean it again. We can in an hour before close. It took them 20 min to make 2 burgers.

Terrible experience !! Ordered food then went to grab condiments and when I came back asked of the order was mine . the woman, KIA, rudely told me its not her job to know that then began continuing her story she was telling 4 other employees just all standing around. My mother order chicken fingers a min after me and after waiting 10 min a shift manager came over to apologize for forgetting to drop the chicken fingers in the fryer and offered a free shake which was nice of her but we were in a bit of a rush. All in all the product was good but the service was awful.

The chicken tenders that I ordered for my 2 year old were still raw! Thankfully I checked them before I gave them to her but unfortunately we were already on the road when I discovered them. Luckily, she still had her French fries to eat! I am so upset we wasted our money on this!

This is the only place to get a «real» meal at the Highspire travel plaza. There’s also a Starbucks and a convenience store. My dad ordered the signature burger, and I got the Royale burger, which was topped with lettuce, tomato, bacon, a fried egg, and mayo. The burger was pretty good; there was too much mayo for my taste though. In my opinion, it was comparable to other more«upscale» burgers. The only downside is the wait. While it’s nice that the burgers are freshly cooked for customers, this is a rest stop, and I, for one, just want to grab some food, eat, and get back on the road. The process seems very inefficient and they seemed understaffed. The cashier would take a bunch of orders, then head into the kitchen to help cook some burgers, then come back out to take orders. The food was ready in waves as well. My dad and I also shared a mint cookies and cream milkshake, topped with plenty of whipped cream and a bit of cherry. I found the flavor of the ice cream to be a little weaker than I expected, and it also tasted odd with my first sip. After I got used to it, though, I enjoyed it. I also liked how the larger chunks of cookie still had cream stuck to them. Another minor annoyance is that they ran out of utensils – no forks, no spoons, no knives. I’m glad I got a spoon to scrape off the mayo; otherwise, the bits of cookie left in the milkshake would’ve been hard to get to! Overall, pretty good food, but if you’re in a rush, this probably isn’t the best place to go, especially if there’s a line.

I love Steak ‘n Shake. When I travel I always look for one and hope there is one near. I recently found out that SnS has finally come further east in PA, and has this«Limited Menu — Inline Concept» in the turnpike plaza. Drove out to that area today for work, and made sure I fit SnS in for lunch. Thankfully you can get to this location without having to go on the turnpike if you are familiar with the area. You have to park outside the plaza and walk a hundred or so yards to get to the plaza. It was somewhat quiet and there was one person working the counter and a few people in the back working the grill. I patiently waited for some tourists traveling through to order their food. I’m lying, I was very impatient and getting frustrated because it seemed like this was the first time these people ever ordered burgers and fries before and they were blocking my path to happiness. When i finally got to the counter I placed my order for my usual, a double and fries… my old usual 2 triples and 2 fries can’t be accommodate anymore due to my age. How I long to have younger me’s stomach. Anyway, placed my order, paid and was given a number. Waited about 5 minutes and my number was called. Went back to the counter, and picked up my bagged food. Went to the table and like a lion ripping into a zebra I opened the bag the burger wrapper. I actually took a few seconds to look at the burger before I inhaled it and it did in fact look like a normal SnS burger even though it’s run by HMS Host. Fries were standard SnS shoestrings. I bit into the burger and«bam» there it was — that signature SnS taste. Burger was just as good as eating at the other locations. Fries were perfect as well. Overall I was very pleased with the experience and the food. I would give it 5 stars, but I docked a star because you can’t just go there without getting on the turnpike or having to sneak into the back and walk(I’m lazy). When I went it was not very busy, and if it was a very busy day, I probably would have been less kind in my review, but the business wouldn’t really be their fault. I really hope this is a sign of the times and that SnS will expand even further east in PA.

This place give Steak n Shake a bad name. Partial menu, which I can deal with, but food was cold, had to send fries back because they had obviously been sitting around forever. On top of this, employee was ultra rude and when we changed one item midway through order, she rolled her eyes and said she had to cancel the whole thing now and start over. Is it our fault you can’t remove one item? A fellow employee was taking a break and was in line behind us. The cashier looked at her and said«sorry for this», and the breaking employee said«it’s ok, it’s not your fault and then looked at us. Should we have not gotten an apology for our inconvenience instead of snottiness? Wish I could give this place zero stars, but I cannot.

Colossally disappointing. 1 O’Clock PM: out of coffee! You got to be joking. Luckily a Starbucks is the next adjacent business. This is the whittled down new entrant into Steak n Shake network. My all time favorite(since 1969), Chili Three Ways, is absent. Almost left right then. This is mostly burger and hot dogs served out in order as you stand around for 15 minutes waiting after 4 prior orders to be filled. Sigh! Well there’s no table service therefore no tipping. You can still see into the kitchen which is one of the most reassuring aspects of all Steak n Shakes. Clean it is but the workers could have worked faster instead of BSing so much. This new fast food Steak n Shake is only formally accessible on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. I was able to find a pedestrian entrance leading from a «no tresspassing» area(Tpk employee parking no doubt). This is from the industrial side of the fence to the south if you are inclined to try it without having to pay a toll to try a restaurant. Not really worth the effort, not for these fast food Steak n Shake locations. I hate dinging Steak n Shake even with the food still being really good. No coffee? No Chili pasta dishes? Access to a pricier menu with much fewer items on a Toll road. Sorry. If the burger hadn’t been good it would have been one star. I have decades of high expectations for Gus Belt’s lasting enterprise. Hey corporate build some sitdown places around eastern Pennsylvania? It’s time. I really want a traditional hand spun scooped ice cream milkshake(pricey) but I cannot wait around for a number by number, order/serve process. Shhh.

(3.75) ~ Good overall Food & service. Need to try the Breakfast sandwiches next time… OURMENU: * Ultimate Banana Milkshake =(4) very good… the«Ultimate» uses real bananas, whereas the regular Banana Milkshake uses only Banana flavored syrup. * Footlong Hotdog w. cheese & mustard =(4) very good… like how they split them to make sure they’re fully cooked * Chocolate Chip Cookies =(4) very good & chewy;) * Royal Burger =(3.75) very good… comes with a fried egg on top;) * Organic Burger =(3.5) good * Thin Fries =(3.5) good

Had the jalapeño crunch burger with firs and a cookie dough burger. Price was comparable to a McDonalds type place but food quality was much better. You will have to wait a few minutes for your food since they cook it to order. I was happy to see yhe prices were lower than the Roy Rogers at the next turnpike stop. If you want a good burger don’t get off the pike stop here. Service was a little poor. The poor guy in front of me waited 15 minutes for a hot dog. When he informed them he got his hot dog but nothing else to make up for his time. But it is a turnpike stop and return business is not a priority.

stopped here after a long day of hiking and decided to give Steak and Shake a try. Heard of it but never have tried. Burger was good. Similar to Wendy’s burger. Took a while so i think they cook them fresh while you wait. Fries were good too. really skinny. almost as good as McD’s. I would stop again if in the area. Bf got a burger with an egg on it. He is always a fan of egg burgers. Next time will try a milkshake.
