The food was good. We dined in and it was a little warm in there. The waiter was hard of hearing. I will go back

Ate here about a month and a half ago, I felt it was decent. I’d come back for sure, though, that is based solely on the fact that there really is no other option for Chinese fare in the area. I honestly forgot what exactly it was that I ate, I believe it was General Tsao Chicken, not 100% sure. It was not bad at all. I do remember that it was a lunch special which included a meat/veg serving along with rice and or an available noodle choice. The lunch special also included a soup starter. I chose hot and sour soup which was actually pretty good. All in all, I’d come back

I eat here frequently and have not had bad service since the new owner, Andy, took over the business. I usually get shrimp chow mein, fried or white rice, or the house mu-shu. Portion size is great. I always have enough left over for lunch the next day. All of the food is very good. The appetizers are also quite delicious.

I have been here twice. Once for dine in and the second time for take out. The food was pretty good. I ordered Kung Pao Beef and was pleasantly surprised. It was fresh, not too oily, lots of fresh veggies, tender beef, and great sauce. There was enough food that I was able to get two meals for the portions served. The second time I just wanted a quick snack and ordered egg rolls to go. They were also very good. I read some previous reviews and I think they have new owners. I think there is a sign up saying this. So I say give them another try. The staff were friendly and helpful when I was there. This one guy walked in and held the door open waiting for his 5 or 6 year old kid to come in. It was almost 5 minutes because the kid was playing and wouldn’t respond. It was quite chilly outside. It was warm and toasty inside but the guy let all the cold in. Finally I asked him to close the door but he didn’t hear me. His partner(maybe the kid’s mom) told him to shut the door and he finally did. Then he walks and and says, «Brrr, it’s really cold in here. Don’t you have the heat on?», I said you let all the heat out holding the door open(but in a funny friendly kind of way) and he burst out laughing realizing what he’d done. But it was warm inside, the food was pretty good, the staff helpful and friendly. Atmosphere and décor not that great but everything else made up for it. I’m for sure going back.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. We ordered the war wonton soup, when I bit into a wonton the meat tasted rancid. The man working there said they tasted and smelled fine to him. He said that is how they are supposed to taste. Pork should not taste rancid. I will not go back.

I can not even begin to describe my horrendous dining experience here. We came in and ordered three items to go, after we have been waiting an hour and a half, countless people being served before us that arrived after us. We ask for a 1.50 drink and additional pancakes(which we were informed were 40 cents per pancake) which should of been free of charge due to the ridiculous wait. If I hadn’t been so hungry I would of screamed at the management about the standards of customer service! Luckily for them I was starved by the time we got our food and too weak to put up a verbal fight. I would rather die than put myself through trying to eat here again.

My crew and myself was on a Fire up in Clearlake and we stopped to eat here as it was the only place open, the owner was very accommodating and the food was really good, everything was fresh, we ate here quite a few times and the owner would stay open later for us, he would sit and chat with us, Great guy great food I would recommend anyone who wants hood fresh food to try this place, Thank you for your Hospitality

I have eaten here many times. The food is pretty darned good… however the hot and sour soup is the BEST, it is full of flavor and a great value. I typically stop here a few times a month on the way home, however they are temporarily closed for a new owner. I hope they re open soon, and I hope the new owner can continue to make my favorite soup!

This would have been at least a 2 star if it hadn’t been for the horrible service. I have never been into a restaurant that didn’t seem some what thrilled that it was getting some business. I was coming in to get my take-out and the employee that was there wouldn’t even lift his eyes off of his phone to answer any of my questions. When asking if the food was ready, I was laughed at, when asked the total of my bill, he acted like it was a burden to give me that information. Food was subpar. I got the braised green beans, wontons and beef lo mein. OH but wait wontons literally mean fried wonton dough, this is something that I feel like should be said on the menu. Will not be coming back which is disappointing because this would have been perfect for those nights I don’t feel like cooking.

It had been a while since I have eaten here and I definitely won’t come back! I ordered hot and sour soup to go. Got home and with the first spoonful I spit it out. The only thing you could taste was tons of MSG, nothing hot or sour or flavorful. Shame on them for serving something this bad. Also, when I arrived, they had started mopping the kitchen floor with some sort of disinfectant and that was all you could smell in the place — totally unappetizing. I think I will go back and ask for my money back on the soup@!

food is inconsistent, servers and cooks change all the time but the last time I tried them for lunch, the place was empty, the waiter dead asleep sitting at one of the tables, saw nobody in the kitchen so I left… will I go back? nope. another bad place in this county… wow

I give this restaurant 3 stars for quality of food and 2 stars for service and environment. One star for table service. My family has begun to only want take-out, since the table service has been so poor(slow, doesn’t take customers in order, unfriendly, often too many tables for one waiter, very cold temperature in the winter). The food is alright though, and we enjoy our standbys: chicken fried rice, broccoli beef, kung pao chicken. We like Chinese food and this one is the only game in town, so it continues to receive out business every few months.

Not sure what’s with the low scores here, maybe a change of ownership, but this is a place that’s doing everything right. Food was prompt, plentiful and everything ordered got comments of surprised appreciation from our party(the Hunan Beef was especially delicious). Our server was pleasant, talkative when it was appropriate and attentive. It was clear to us that he was invested in making sure we had a good meal. If you’re on your way somewhere, this is a place to remember to keep in mind. I’ll certainly be doing so more in the future.

Really enjoyed our meal here. Fried rice had crisp tasty vegetables, the pork and eggplant was very tasty, and the steamed fish and ginger was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Take this place for what it is – it is a small town Chinese restaurant. We had four people in our party, and everyone loved it.

Really terrible food, service and restaurant. Being that this is Lake County I accept that some businesses may be a bit more funky and not have similar standards as businesses in adjacent more affluent counties. But Shangri La fails to meet every MINIMUM standard for food quality, cleanliness and customer service I have.

I’ve eaten at Shangri-La many times and have had great food but have also had terrible food too. I’m not sure why they are so inconsistent, maybe it’s different people working? We no longer eat here after my husband had an especially upset stomach after eating at Shangri-La. It’s really not worth risking an upset stomach. Their sister restaurant in Clearlake isn’t much better.

Never have considered writing a review on Unilocal but this place made me rethink. I specifically signed up just so I could review this place. Originally from the Napa Valley I have been used to eating out, with exquisite, fresh, delicious food. My standards are pretty high, but this restaurant located in Middleown, a small town 20 minutes from Calistoga, I don’t know why my expectations were set high. The place is dirty, tables were left with the food from the previous customers there. The guy took forever to take our order, and could hardly understand English. He could not even explain any of the items on the menu that I asked about. It took 30 minutes to receive our food, and even then our order was WRONG. Trying to keep my cool, he eventually came with our intended order. In a hurry to finish my overcooked rice, and very saucy sweet and sour chicken I was in a hurry to get out of there and put on some hand sanitizer! Bleh! I was embarrassed to even leave a tip let alone PAY for the meal I received. I will NEVER return here again and cannot believe this place is even still in business. There are other great places to eat such as la parilla Mexican food and a very nice restaurant called boars breath right up the road.
