I wish I could give it 10 stars best prime rib and scallops ever. I will come back anytime I am in the Newport area. small cozy place with great food.

Place is spacious inside. The owner, I believe, was very pleasant. Very cold day out, asked if the gas fireplaces could be turned on, I was the only one in the place, and she turned both on graciously. Good coffee and omelette. Will be going back.

We tried it because it was close to where we were staying on the Island and were looking for somewhere we hadn’t been before, it had good reviews and it was empty when we went in, we ordered quick, the food was good but I ordered eggs over hard but got them mussy, rye toast was marble wheat or something Looked clean and might go back

A recommendation from Muncy’s next door led our group to eat dinner here at Rhea’s! The ambiance was very relaxed and the lighting was very dim. We definitely had a great time and sat next to one of their fireplaces for warmth, which was very nice. The other guys I came with ordered the full portion of their rack of ribs, and two orders of their fish and chips with cod. They demolished it, with a few beers. I had their BBQ breast of chicken that was seasoned very well! Their BBQ sauce was great, not too sweet. I also had vegetables and their rice pilaf. Overall, an awesome dinner with great company! I would say the only knock was the prices. It seemed like we had a huge bill at the end of the evening. I would also say that you get what you pay for, and to that, the food was very very good!

The best restaurant in Newport isn’t actually in Newport! OK, thank goodness for review sites as my wife and I who have been married for over 26 years and live a short drive over the MA border to Newport found ourselves again in that wonderful town looking for dinner. Remembering that we recently made a promise to try new places and not simply choose the same restaurants that we have been frequenting for years we hit the phone for such an oasis. Now I must say that after more than a thousand trips to Newport over the years I had my concerns. Well thanks to several review sites it turns out that the best restaurant in Newport isn’t actually in Newport! It’s Rheas Kitchen(and Inn) in Middletown. To be clear we live about 25 miles away so this is a review about the restaurant as we did not stay there however I understand that the rooms are being renovated just like the restaurant & bar have been. Now clearly the food is outstanding as you can see from the other reviews however the ambiance, hospitality and 2 working actual(read — NOT gas) fireplaces were amazeballs. Specifically we entered as the front of the building is nice but not indicative of what you will experience inside. We were greeted immediately and very warmly by Jimmy(owner /manager?) who seated us near the roaring fire and then, at our pace answered all our questions and guided us to the baby back ribs(I know truly understand the term«fall off the bone») and stuffed shrimp. We started with chilled clams and clams casino and a perfect martini with 3 blue cheese stuffed olives! Jimmy was later assisted by a very friendly waitress as I understand that he does most or all of the cooking and she also set the bar high. If you want perfect food in a most humble, elegant & warn setting then Rheas Kitchen needs to be on your list.

Ive been all around the world, ive eaten everywhere and i must say this is the best food ever. Very good menu and plenty to choose from. Prices are very reasonable and service is great. The chef in the kitchen was very nice and knowledgable about everything. He really knows his way around the kitchen. This place is hands down the BEST around. thank you.

This was my first time at this restaurant and it was great. The food was amazing. The menu is limited but I think this is good because it allows them to concentrate on a few items. Our waitress Hillary was attentive and knowledgeable. We had the Greek salad and clam chowder for starters and then had scallops and husband had fall off the bone ribs and grilled shrimp. All great.

Inside décor is superb, definitely a surprise from the outside. Stopped in for drinks and apps in between a wedding ceremony and the reception, early on a Saturday and the place was empty. We sat at the bat, the owner Jimmy took good care of us. I did not like the raw clams ATALL. Local clams. Too salty and«fishy»(probably not the right word but«funky» probably isn’t either). Is that what they’re supposed to taste like? I’ve definitely had better raw clams. The stuffed mushrooms were close to the best I ever had. Bread pudding was delicious. Prices were reasonable. If I lived in the area I’d return to explore the menu a bit more.

Rhea’s Kicthen was a very good place for breakfast in the Middletown area. It is not fancy, but the food was fresh and very tasty, and the service was great.

3 years later still 5 stars! Completely remodeled, soothing colored walls, 2 fireplaces and softly playing music. Very relaxing ambience. Immaculately clean! Had an early sunday dinner, ordered 2 scallop dishes. One broiled, one fried. each with a choice of 2 sides, Scallops were fresh and perfectly prepared as were the side dishes. Dinner, 2 glasses of wine, 2 vodka cocktails the tab came to $ 74.00 plus a 20% tip. It’s located 5 minutes from downtown Newport.

I had good service and a very high quality meal. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the decorations, and the food. my only suggestion for the owners would be to change the suggested tip on the bottom of the receipt from giving 10, 15, 20 percent to giving 15, 18, and 20%. the menu prices, service provided, and atmosphere in no way reflected that anyone should be leaving a 10 percent tip and with as many foreigners as we have in this area it may be misleading to provide that as one of the numbers for ease of tip calculation. I’m sure the servers would appreciate the more reasonable and standard 15 to 20 percent.

Rhea’s is hands down my favorite restaurant on the island, and quite possibly my favorite period. My wife and I frequent the restaurant as often as possible and have yet to leave unsatisfied. The atmosphere, combined with excellent food make for a great experience. I almost always get the prime rib, which is unrivaled anywhere I have ever been. It is always cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and juicy as hell. The au jus, also my favorite, compliments it perfectly. If you are a beef lover like me, this is a must, as you won’t find anything to even compare it to. Last night I decided to deviate from my usual selection and I went for the ribs, as they are a local favorite, and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. In one word, excellent! They were full of flavor and fall off the bone. If ribs are your thing, stop reading and try them for yourself. My wife always gets the Greek salad which never lets her down. Made with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, green onion, olives, and feta, it is never a bad choice. Other dishes I recommend are the scallops, clams casino, and a good old fashion angus burger. I barely scratched the surface, so get in there and try it for yourself. I guarantee you will leave with a smile.

Rhea’s is a perfect place if you’re looking for something off the beaten path! We stumbled upon this place when we didn’t have a dinner reservation, and all of the dinner restaurants in downtown Newport were too packed to get in. I called Rhea’s and the waitress said we could stop by, no wait. When we got there, there were a couple of families there but it was mostly empty, and the waitress had already set our places and put out ice waters for us! This was just the beginning of an excellent experience at Rhea’s. The interior of the restaurant is very homey, complete with a fireplace. The service was stellar, and all of our food was delicious. I got the ribs, which were out of this world. If you order a salad, make sure you try their raspberry vinaigrette. And the entire bill was just 50 dollars for three people, which you just won’t find elsewhere in Newport. Rhea’s is a must-try– I will definitely be back!

I’d actually give Rhea’s a 3.5. Overall I’d say it was in between«A-OK» and«I’m a fan.» Let’s start with the appetizers — had the seafood stuffed mushrooms and also some New England clam chowder. The mushrooms started out with an odd taste but after one bite, the favors started popping. Definitely a winner! The seafood stuffing(not just mush — actually contains seafood!) along with the lemon flavor and the mushroom just worked very well together. Would get this again without a doubt. Next up the Clam Chowder: again, very impressed! I’d put it up against anyone’s recipe! Had my share of chowdah up here since I’ve spent some significant time over the years in the area. There were clams, potatoes, and bacon in EVERY bite and I really enjoyed it! Well done! But the reason it didn’t get a 4 or 5 star rating from me was the ribs. They absolutely fell off the bone and thought I was going to be in for a treat, but the sauce was way too overpowering and I really didn’t get enough flavor from the meat. Would have liked that. Also the very tops of the ribs were a bit overcooked… enough to make them tough. Ribs are a tough food to master, and they were just OK here. I place a higher emphasis on the entrees than the appetizers. Would come back though.

My wife and I had an early dinner here Restaurant is simply but beautifully uncluttered décor. Warm fireplace just lit by our table. Nice menu, I had the ribs, it is true they fall off the bone nice rice and a $ 2.00 side salad, perfect. My wife had eggplant parm. with ziti also excellent and enough to take home for lunch. We will be going back soon.

How about a real review? my sis had the ribs which were burnt, so none of meat fell off the bone, it was over saused with a bitter after taste. the pasta was more like egg noodles, and the meat balls and sauce was OK. The service was good, but sadly the food was nothing to write home about.
