Every urgent case is different not forgetting this is an animal emergency hospital… I have unfortunately utilized OCAES more than a few times for a midnight crisis. Is it expensive yes but it is for emergencies only and you should anticipate more of a cost. From eye injuries, to a blown knee, vomiting, diarrhea, you name it I’ve used them for. I’ve got dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, etc and each time they helped me get through the night w my sick pet and made them comfortable until I was able to get them to their regular vet in the a.m. I’ve heard the horror stories but I think you can hear a horror story about any animal hospital. I recommend people to this hospital for the middle of the night emergency.

We’ve had to use this service more than once thus year due to a house full of pets that are constantly getting into trouble. The facility is conveniently located off of I 84 and in a modern building. The staff is small but friendly and experienced. Dr Petcov is always right on with diagnosing and treating our pets. You never want to visit any of these facilities, but it’s good to know this one is here when needed

We had to bring our dog here at a 4 am on a Saturday night (of course) because we suspected bloat – our vet back home in the city told us that if it were bloat she would die before we could get anywhere else. I don’t usually review places, but I’m posting because I was so upset driving there and reading all these uniformly negative reviews when I had no other options. I want to share that our experience was fine. It is true that their manner (particularly the receptionist) left a lot to be desired; there was no sympathy and they were very focused on estimates and payment. They were not helpful or flexible in figuring out her discharge time, and the cost was more than it would have been at a top emergency hospital in the city.
However, in our case the treatment was prompt and successful, and when our regular vet reviewed the files she said that in every instance their treatment was appropriate, the incision and sutures were very well done, etc. I called a few times to check in during the 24+ hours she was there, and they were informative enough on the phone. When we picked up our dog, the tech on duty (Matty, or something similar) was just great: professional, smart, and really caring, both toward us and our dog. We probably would have felt quite differently about all of it had he been there when we arrived.
I think it’s unethical to charge such a premium of people in dire straights with no other options, and our initial emergency visit didn’t make an already upsetting situation feel any better. This is not where you want to go for routine or non-​emergency care. But I sure was relieved to have someone competent and available to care for my dog when she was at death’s door.

Horrible! This is the worst vet experience we’ve ever had. We know our dog had a UTI and wanted antibiotics to clear it. They wanted to do blood tests and charge over $ 550. We got just the antibiotics and still had to pay $ 250. The 3 people we dealt with there were cold and unfriendly. The vet was horrible… Couldn’t understand her thick accent and kept questioning if our dog was spayed. I think we would know since we got her as a puppy. If she’s a vet, wouldn’t she be able to tell? The vet tech gave our dog a shot, by stabbing her in the butt. Our dog never jumps when she gets shots but did due to the poor injection and half of the antibiotic shot squirted all over my shirt. I’d never go back here and almost walked out.

AWFUL!!! My 15 year old dog was dying, and I had no choice but to have him euthanized, or watch him suffer. It happened on a major holiday, and my regular vet was not available. When I called them, they told me that they would not allow me to be with my dog when he was being euthanized. The lack of compassion in their tone over the telephone still haunts me.
Thank God, I called Flannery Animal Hospital in Newburgh. They were compassionate, kind, and allowed us to be with him in his final moments. They made him as comfortable as possible, and he passed away with dignity. I have switched to Flannery as the regular vet for all of my dogs. They have 24 hour service and very reasonable fees. Most importantly, they have kind, compassionate, and professional staff!
