Restaurant closed. Unilocal has been notified. The five star rating is for myself because I am awesome.

food was pedestrian. my fiancé had pasta & meatballs which was ok. I had the pork chop that was on special, it was extremely dry. my rating is for the food. besides the food people should be aware that the restaurant doesn’t accept credit cards… but don’t worry they take checks! so incredibly inconvenient. especially for a business traveler. I will not return because they don’t accept credit cards. its 2013 i see people able to swipe cards on their mobiles but this place is cash & check only. they do have a sign warning you about this… you need to look closely it is on the left hand door which doesnt open you can miss it since it is so much smaller than the sign displaying their hours. i questioned the wait staff about the policy about no credit cards. i would have much preferred to have the conversation with a manager or owner but there wasnt one available.

I would have giving more stars but the service really made our visit not great. My husband got the fisherman s stew and he loved it but while he was still eating some bread with the sauce, the waitress just swooped in and took it away. Didn’t even ask. We had ordered a beer when we first sat down but it wasn’t until a different person brought our food that we had a chance to ask for another drink. And even then we were told she would tell our waitress and it was another 5 minutes before we got our drinks. If you don’t mind being ignored and squeezed into tiny tables then this is the place for other. Food was great but in my opinion just not worth it.

The food is great, but during our last visit our server took our order and then proceeded to ignore us. We watched people who were seated after us get their food before us; this doesn’t sit well with my wife. Food took much too long to come out, and I eat at nice restaurants often. And I think it was the owner who waited on us. First disappointing trip to Golds so far.

Thought it was«Geriatric» night when we walked in. If you’re under 50 you’ll feel young in this place. There isn’t much seating so you might have to wait. Place specializes in Pizza and it was excellent. I had seafood which was good, though not great. Prices are very reasonable.

This place pretty much fits my general impression of Newport-area restaurants. A waitress seated us, took our order, joked that we «must be hungry,» gave us beverages, and then a different waitress brought us our food. Neither of them offered refills until after we were finished eating. My date’s order wasn’t correct. There were at least three tables’ worth of regulars there at the same time, and they got plenty of attention from the waitstaff and manager. The only saving grace was the food: it was a pretty good breakfast. I am not sure what is in Newport water that makes foodservice people a little nutty, but I digress.

Great find! Rainy day in Newport and an almost 4 month old ready to fall asleep in the car… or so we hoped… and we found Gold’s while out for a drive. Service was GREAT, the two gals serving the entire restaurant were so kind, our meal(bruschetta and then a split of the hot italian sub and pepperoni pizza) were delicious and just what we had in mind. It was obvious the locals love this place and it made sense. It was a family friendly spot where TLC was put into the food and the atmosphere. Fancy? No. Casual and enjoyable? Yes. Cash or checks only but they have an ATM in case you’re not prepared. A random find but absolutely worth it. PS: Our«split» turned into a lot of leftovers but round 2 was just as good.

We had planned n going somewhere else for lunch but when confronted with a full dining room, decided to move on. Choice #2 didn’t serve alcohol which wasn’t an option. We had a rough morning and needed a relaxing lunch that included alcohol. Yes, that does make me sound like a lush. LOL. A quick look on Unilocal pulled up this place nearby and we decided to give it a whirl. It’s not huge inside, but is cozy with a nice bar. We were promptly greeted and seated. I had a nice glass of Malbec and my husband had a Blue Moon on draft. We started with the mussels, which were super flavorful. For just having white wine, thyme and cream and was really surprised by the amount of flavor. We then split a goat cheese pizza. It was a super thin crust, covered spinach, tomatoes, garlic and herbs. Another thumbs up. If we lived in the neighborhood, I could see this being a regular spot for us. We’ll be back to try more of their menu options.

I have visited Gold’s on numerous occasions. My two most recent visits have been for breakfast. I’m very picky about breakfast food. Gold’s only sources the best, high quality food. Their eggs are delicious and cooked correctly. Don’t miss their muffins! They are absolutely heavenly! I have also visited Gold’s for dinner. They offer some delicious gourmet pizza options. One major downside is they are a cash only establishment. Nothing is more irritating to me than a place where you can only pay cash(I know, it’s better for the business not having to pay all those fees to VISA or Mastercard, but it’s downright inconvenient) Definitely swing by Gold’s if you are looking for a good, locally sourced meal!

Simply delicious and hits the spot. Downtown Newport restaurants tend to be consistently underwhelming, so we were looking for someplace that wasn’t filled with canned food and bachelorette parties. We referred to Unilocal and decided upon this place — a quick stroll from our hotel. It is instantly gratifying because you feel like a local«in the know». We ordered the smoked shrimp special, the smoked vegetable antipasto, a prosciutto pizza, a salad and sealed the deal with blueberry crumb pie. All dishes and the desserts are so scrumptious… the ingredients are so fresh that they taste like the Elysian Fields. Please go! You will love it.

Stopped in yesterday for a lunch with the fam and we were all so glad we did!(but be warned — it’s a cash only sort of place!!!)
I had the pesto chicken pizza sandwich and it was unique and tasty! perfect amount of tasty olive oil oozing out between the chicken pieces, mozz and grilled pizza crust(very foccacia like). hubby had the grilled ahi tuna sandwich to which he said we WILL be returning to have. i snuck more than a few nibbles of his awesome potato salad side. seriously… what the heck was in that?! and the kids had the usual kid fare — pizza and pasta.(of which BOTH were tasty and large quantity for a kidlet!) but the best part was the appetizer — cups of the best clam chowder ever. i’m not kidding — this was devine! everything a chowdah should be! definitely check this place out!

Went here for lunch and was mighty impressed! Had the goat cheese salad with added salmon. It ended up being a little pricey because we added fish to our salads, but overall I felt the prices were reasonable. They don’t take credit cards, but they do take local checks and have an ATM in the building. The servers were very friendly and the place was quaint. I would not recommend this for a super large group, but I will be visiting this place again.

Wonderful lunch place. Their sandwiches are very tasty, and you really can’t go wrong. I personally love their chicken pesto sandwich, but have heard no complaints about the food from other people I’ve gone with. I have also eaten their chowder(not bad), and their giant cookies(giant and delicious). Service around lunch is pretty fast, but there can be a wait — it is a small restaurant, and it gets very busy over lunch. If you’re a little early or a little late, though, Gold’s is worth considering. Oh yeah — THEYONLYTAKECASH. And the ATM near the bathrooms is stuck on the«ream you with so many darn fees» settings. Bring cash!

I had a craving for a steak, and the weather was a bit dicey to fire up the grill in the backyard. Consulted the Unilocal to try and find a Newport restaurant that served up a good steak where I could go and eat wearing jeans and a t-shirt instead of khakis and a polo. Typically this we be a Pour Judgement night, but I was feeling like more of a sit down place. This place fit the bill perfectly. They had one steak on their menu, and another as a special. I chose the one on the regular menu and was not disappointed. A big ribeye, grilled with a nice amount of char, and done just a touch over the Medium Rare I ordered, which I am okay with. It even had a chunk of Blue Cheese sitting melting on top, I am not a huge fan of the Blue Cheese, but it was a nice touch. It came with some fantastic mashed potatoes and instead of gravy they were topped with a pile of onions simmered down to just shy of mush. The onions were heavenly and I would have loved the entire plate topped with them. The wife got a swordfish special that was also good, but I was so totally mesmerized by my steak that I failed to really pay attention to her meal. So why not 5? Get a damn credit card machine. It is the future now, we don’t need to carry around paper money. I hate using cash, and for some reason there are more restaurants in the town that are cash only than I have seen in the last 10 years of living and eating all around this country. A restaurant this nice deserves to treat its clientele better.

So we went and I had some lobster pasta dish and it was okay. The thing was is that it was like $ 30 and meh. It didnt have any real flavor which was disappointing. My fiancé had the fillet and said it was good. Desert on the other hand was really good. I had the carrot cake and it was very very tasty(though maybe a little too cold). My fiancé had some chocolate cake which was also very good. So why 3 stars? Well our bill came to around $ 90 and the only thing I really remember was my dinner was meh but desert was good. Also the hassle of they dont take credit card. I ended up writing a check. Its hard to want to try this place again because you need to have cash or check. Service was friendly and atmosphere is really nice. The place is small though and gets packed quickly during the summer and on nights on Friday and Saturday. I did see some less expensive dinner options and we may have to try it again to see how those are, but I dont know because I view the cash or check thing like a hassle and its hard to want to eat at a place that you view as a hassle.

Been going to Gold’s for a long time. The food is predictably good every time. At times it seems that the service is slow but it is due to the food is prepared for«you». Gold’s is off the Newport tourist path and provides locals quality food with a reasonable price. The specials could use some more variety. It may be that I have been a patron for such a long time that I have seen them all. Gold’s has three separate menus, one for breakfast(Saturday and Sunday only), one for lunch and another for dinner. All have good quality. The staff takes the time to get to know you and your family. The staff is not your usual set of kids that come and go. The wait staff has been there for years and knows the product and has at times been spotted bringing their friends to dinner. As a treat leave some room for dessert. The desserts are high quality also. As with most restaurants, I wish the dessert serving size would be smaller. Remember Gold’s does not accept credit cards but does have an ATM on site and another across the street.

Simply fabulous! Great staff, great food. it’s officially our favorite place in town. For breakfast, I have tried the banana bread french toast, omlette, scrambled eggs, and fritatta — not a single order failed to meet my expectation. We still have to try their yummy looking pizza for lunch or dinner and so many other things on the menu!

I have to admit — it’s a sacrifice to come here because the other half of the building that houses Gold’s is my favorite Thai place! CHOICES… Came in for lunch, around 11.45. There was only one table seated when I got there, but when I left around 12.20 not only were they all full, but there were about 10 people waiting! Hmm! Anyway I had a lunch special, ham and cheese with bernaise on a toasted french bread bun, and a cup of vegetable lentil soup. Delicious, and only $ 6.99! I dig that big time. My friend had a cobb salad, equally good and full of all sorts of everything. Will have to go back for a pizza, they looked great. This place is clean, cozy, and has good personality. Looked like they had a decent wine selection too. And as others have said, it’s not in a place that many people would normally drive by — yet it’s almost right in front of everyone’s faces. Recommended, great for lunch.
