This is a rating on takeaway only, we did not go to the restaurant at all. I have 3 children, one of which is a very energetic 3 year old, so we opt to order from grub hub once a week or so. My husband came across this place a few times and asked me what I thought, I’ve been super apprehensive about trying a new place that does fish since I can be pretty picky. Well, last night my husband announced that he was ordering from here for himself and the children, and that I could add something or not. Okie Dokie then. We ordered fried clams strips, chicken fingers, clam chowder, and French fries for the children. My children usually whine over dinner«Too soggy, too spicy, too crunchy, etc.». Not last night, my kids determined the clam chowder to be one of the best they’ve ever had and I didn’t hear a single complaint over anything at all. I ordered fish and chips. In my container came a fresh lemon wedge, 3 big pieces of battered fish, and a generous serving of chips/fries. Cutting into the fish revealed flaky moist white fish and the batter was crisp, the whole thing was very delicious. The French fries are thick, crisp, and were also very tasty. I give my meal and my children’s meals 5 stars. My husband ordered clams and shrimp fra diavlo over linguini which he claimed was delicious. The fault with this dish was that the pasta was over cooked, therefore he ate all the clams and shrimp out but tossed away quite a bit of the pasta. He also ordered a Jamaican beef patty, I also tried a bite of this. He thought it was very good, I personally would rather cook up some frozen beef patties from the grocery store. My husband also ordered the pepper steak, claiming he would eat it for lunch the following day lol. I also tried a bite of this and omg! The peppers were succulent, the beef was so tender it melted in my mouth, and the rice and beans that came with it were phenomenal! I had to take a star off for the sub-par beef patty and over cooked pasta(I wish Unilocal did half stars because then I would have only taken off the half a star instead of a whole one) but we will be ordering from here in the future. All in all this was an incredibly fresh and properly prepared meal! I’m sorry I was so apprehensive to order from here in the first place!

I will update this review, once I’ve had a chance to dine in the restaurant. This review is based on my takeout experience only. After a change of dinner plans, I was left to fend for myself. I had been craving fish & chips, so I decided to give this place a try. I knew that I wanted to try the fish, but I also wanted to try a few other items on the menu. Unable to make my mind up, I decided on the House Platter. This platter included all of the fried goodies; shrimp, scallops, calamari and fish. Served with a humongous portion of fries. While at the counter picking up my dinner, I spied Jamaican Beef Patties. Of course, I had the nice woman add it to the bill. Yes, that’s right, this is a fish & chips place that also serves Jamaican specialties. I grabbed my bag, that roughly weighed about 2 lbs, and headed home. My boys were almost through with their dinner, but that didn’t stop them from snatching from my meal. I managed to grab the 2 fried shrimp, which were probably my favorite of the mix. The calamari came in second. I had to agree with my son, who chewed up, and then spit out the scallop. The texture was a little too soft for me. The biggest disappointment was the fish. Not the fish itself, which was firm and flaky. For me, it’s all about breaking into that crunchy outer shell. This was like a saggy skin, barely attached to the fish. The fries were also not crispy. I only had a five minute drive home, but I also don’t know how long the meal had been sitting there. So, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and I’ll try dining in next time.

East Main Fish and Chips is the place to go if you want some authentic Jamaican food-or any delicious comfort food for that matter. During my first visit, I got the large sized Jamaican Curry Goat(which costs the price of a medium on Wednesdays) and it did not disappoint. The goat was fall off the bone tender and perfectly seasoned-with just the right amount of spice in the curry to put a pep in your step. To top it off, the enormous dish came with a generous helping of rice and beans, steamed veggies, AND sweet plantains. Everything was delicious! This joint is the place to go for quick and tasty food!

I wasn’t really sure what to rate this place. I’ve only had their seafood so far — I haven’t tried the Jamaican food yet. The fried seafood was really good — and I’m used to shoreline seafood so I have a high standard for it. And I was surprised because given the«ambiance» inside, I thought it would be a shitshow. It seems to be a local hangout for some guys, who may or may not work there, who give off a bit of a Deliverance feel. The woman taking the orders seemed overwhelmed but trying to be professional. But for takeout, I’ll definitely stop by again.

So, in Middleton for the day… hungry…consulted Unilocal(my go to) and East Main Fish & Chips was nearby… came here for seafood but decided on Jamaican cuisine… leaving with a happy tummy! Thanks for the suggestion of Jamaican Pineapple Ginger soda… Amazing!

This place is really a hidden gem. I’ve eaten here multiple times, usually opting for the fish & chips dinner, and have never been disappointed. The fried fish is delicious, fresh and consistent in quality.(And I used to hate tartar sauce before trying it here!) I keep meaning to try the rest of the menu, but I can’t help my cravings for good old fashioned fried fish and chips I don’t need to drive 30 minutes to the shoreline to get! Update: Recently tried the clam strips dinner. Oh my god. I gorged myself, and thankfully I wasn’t in public because it was just me and those clam strips vs. the world.

These people dont know how to cook Jamaican food. The best Jamaican food restaurants are in Hartford… Middletown«sucks!» the food is okay if your really hungry. They are slightly over priced and portions are horrible. Do come here if your really hungry, thats about it!!!

I was looking for a place to eat in Middletown with my daughter. I used Unilocal to find somewhere close by. When we got to East Main Fish & Chips we were a little hesitant. Don’t let looks deceive you! This place is small, looks like a take out only, until we sat down and ordered our food. My daughter ordered the fish n chips dinner($ 12.00) and I ordered the fried calamari($ 11.00). When our food was put on our table it looked & smelled great! This is by far the BEST tasting seafood we have had in years… We live in Clinton and go to many restaurants along the shoreline(mostly big name seafood restaurant) and this food blew them away!!! The fish was not greasy and was cooked to perfection. My calamari was not chewy, greasy and it just melted in my mouth! This place is not fancy but if you want a great tasting meal TRYEASTMAINFISH&CHIPS. We will definitely be back!

A good fried seafood place. I really enjoyed my fried shrimp meal here – it was tasty, came out fast, and hit the spot. Tip: There aren’t many tables here(we were lucky to get one) so it might be better for takeout instead of eat-in. I haven’t tried their Jamaican food yet, but I’m intrigued and willing to go back.

The fish and chips here are amazing. My mom, fiancé and I went there and can’t wait to go back. Very low key. The atmosphere has something to be desired and definitely screams takeout, but the food is fresh and delicious. This place has better fish and chips than most places on the shore. A unanimous consensus that we will return!

Went there for my first time and got a fish sandwich and I have to say it’s was pretty damn good for a tiny little place. The fish is lightly battered and it’s so good! I’m deff going there again.

I thought I’d check this place out since I love Jamaican food and what better place to get Jamaican food than at a seafood place(insert sarcasm here). I ordered the jerk chicken and the service was prompt however when I looked at the chicken… It wasn’t grilled. Jerk chicken is supposed to be off the grill! I probably should have asked but I assume everyone knows that! The flavor was ok but it tasted like it was a store bought jerk sauce and not even the best one. Middletown does not have any authentic Caribbean places. So I thought… why not. Don’t get me wrong, it was ok but it wasn’t great. I would just grill it. If you’re going to serve Jamaican food… serve it right. On a good note they had enormous portion sizes for a great price and the food was very fresh. I would go here again but I would only order seafood.

I come here regularly with my family and friends whenever I am in visit to Middletown. So far I like it so much, the food is always good and I can easily assume that food is fresh. Beside the excellent taste that this place has to offer, the prices are unbeatable. I believe that you cannot find excellent tasting seafood restaurant with the low prices that they have to offer. Since the staff is very friendly I became friend with them, so whenever I come I get free drinks. From my experience there are rare places that offers free drink to its regular customers.

Having lived in MA for 8 years, I was really looking for this type of seafood place here in CT. Fried fish and clams are very fresh(clam bellies at the best!) and the batter is very light/not greasy. As an added bonus, they have great Jamaican meals that taste authentic(I have a coworker who is Jamaican and she has given it her stamp of approval).

For what this place is… a small fish and chips establishment, I cannot complain. This place took the previous Jerk Fish right next to Big Daddy’s Laundromat. Simple place with an area to dine in if you wish. The owners were very friendly. We ate here for lunch today. We ordered the Fish and Chips platter and the fried scallop platter. The Fish and Chip platter was reasonably priced at 10.95. The dish had 3 – 4 large pieces of lightly battered white fish that was VERY fresh. You can tell it was not frozen and was prepared to order. The batter was perfect and not over powering. The fish itself was pearly white, buttery and flaky, the way any dense white fish like Cod should be. It came with fries which was your standard steak cut fries and coleslaw. The scallop roll platter had about 6 medium sized sea scallops on a split top hot dog bun. Again the scallops were fresh, pearly white and fall apart tender. The bun could have been buttered and toasted like that of a lobster roll, I guess that is just the NE girl in me. This meal also came with french fries and coleslaw but I had substituted the fries for onion rings– again I suspect frozen onion rings. Although most of their food is deep fried, the flavors are very clean and doesn’t have that old oil taste that some places can have. There are plenty other choices on the menu as well such as beef ribs, pork ribs, and jerk chicken. Over all the experience was pleasantly surprising again for the type of establishment, price and location. Nothing fancy here but decent fresh seafood that will please your fish and chip cravings.
