Consistently good service and awesome deserts. A lot of family always request to stop in here when visiting and at the very least beg me for one of their cheesecakes. The prices are awesome, the food is delicious, they always try and entertain my daughter if thee is a wait by talking with her or giving her a cookie on the house, and work with me when I’m not sure what to get. One of my favorite places hands down.

Seriously, just walking into this store and smelling all the goodies is amazing. Pretty much everything in the store tastes great; I’ve never been to a better bakery!!!

Amazing bakery!!! Their breads are my favorite! If you want good Italian desserts, breads etc you have to try DeFillipis.

This place is OK. My review is based on cookies and sweets. I called ahead to see if they had cupcakes. The person on the phone took my order and they were ready for me within 15 minutes which I was thankful for! The cupcakes ended up being very dry and not flavorful at all. All the beautiful cookies that weren’t cheap were also lacking flavor and were a crumbly texture. The raspberry rugelach were excellent as were the cream puffs.

Excellent pastries and lovely staff. I had no idea it was there. Just happened to be at the Bicycle Doctor next door and decided to go in and bought a wonderful Cherry Pie for New Years Eve. Can’t wait to go back!(Plus they are open until 7pm on a holiday)

As if the line out the door was not indication enough of the allure this store, the sight of the display cases inside was sure to silence the harshest of critics. The good: How does one describe the perfection of a chocolate glaze topped cake doughnut before slipping into a glucose-fueled coma? Or that of a cinnamon roll bigger than an entire roll of your favorite brand in the blue tube from the grocery store? I would be lying if I said my heart wasn’t palpating and my forehead sweating after consuming the alarming number of calories in the two and half concoctions these miracle workers had created. Was the dough soft and fluffy? Yes. Was the glaze the most wondrous, finger-licking, dripping on your lap, glaze I’d ever encountered? Yes. The bad: Impossible. Second thought: long line — understandable for Christmas Eve. Five out of five for the most amazing bakery I’ve ever been to in my life. Do yourself a favor and stop by for anything(literally anything you eat will blow your mind).

I agree about a cookie for the kids! Everything costs an arm and leg nowadays here, but a nice gesture goes a long way. The rum babas are very good and anything cannoli.

For you reviewers that posted ONE star — are you SURE you have the right bakery? These are the original owners — they’ve been here for over 25 years — straight from Italy. Original recipes, etc. There are other Italian bakeries in the area but they are not anywhere as good as Defilippis. The bread is always fresh everyday. EVERYDAY. The pastries are made EVERYDAY. Their COOKIES — the sesame cookies!!! are made — yep, you got it, EVERYDAY. They are a bit overpriced and they only take cash otherwise I’d give them five stars. Their cannolis and tiramisu is to die for. I don’t eat sweets but when and if I do I only buy from this bakery. You can judge a bakery by their bread. It’s always so fresh. Yum. I can’t take it. I need to go there now. :-)

Ok, When I was a little kid, my mom would bring me to bakery to get fresh baked goods. era 1965 – 1980 and I would love to go to look at all the delicious looking cookies, I would pick one out, it was the highlight of my visit. Now the present day, I am in the Middletown NY area and I have my own kid, she looks threw the glass and picks out a cookie at Defillipes, And guess what? they weigh it and charge me, for 1 cookie?. AREYOUFRIGGINKIDDING! Everything I have ever bought there is stale. Stale cookies and cakes at Thanksgiving. Stale cookies and cakes at Christmas. And stale pastries all the time. I just went there for my daughters favorite birthday cake, 7 layer. and guess what, it was STALE… And no free cookie. I am done with you and your stale products Defillipes. ANDDON’T BESOCHEAPANDGIVETHEKIDS A COOKIE!

Agree this is the best bakery in the Middletown area… Cannot find a NYC type of bakery in the Orange County area anywhere. so sad. This is the closest your going to get… not 100% a city bakery but close.

Nostalgia is playing a huge part ib ny review. I would walk to get a cookie with my father every day I visited him at work. It was very comforting. It was nearly bursting with baked goods. I still come back and grab a half lb of cookies when I get the chance.

I’ve been giving pretty much all my bakery business to DeFillipis for the past 15 years, both personal & any time we need stuff for work. I have never been disappointed. The place is great & so is everything I’ve ever tried. This past weekend, I ordered an 80th Birthday Cake for my dad’s birthday party — vanilla cake(3 layers!) with cannoli cream filling, rum flavoring, chocolate butter cream frosting with pretty blue & red roses. The cake was gorgeous & very delicious… served to 25 – 30 hungry Sicilians… Everybody loved it & raved over how good it was. We were very pleased at the quality, taste, and the price. Even the 2 dozen dinner rolls I also picked up for the party were excellent & got a lot of compliments. We had no leftovers! I highly recommend them for all your bakery needs. Plenty of parking, at the curbs or in the lot across the street. Safe neighborhood. Reasonable prices. And the best bread & rolls, and I love their Napoleons.

This review is actually after several visits to this bakery over the past two years. To tell you the truth, until yesterday, I was never that crazy about any of the items I’d purchased. However, and maybe it’s because it’s almost Easter, some co-workers came to work yesterday with boxes and bags full of goodies from the bakery. Tempted, I went and checked it out myself, and it was certainly full of pies, cakes, cookies, breads and pastries. I went to the cold stored pastries and selected two cannoli cream filled pastries and a slice of spumoni cake(spl?). Last night I had the slice of cake, which was good, nice moist cake and fresh cream, flavored both vanilla and chocolate, however the cannoli cream puff? Heaven on Earth. I am a huge cannoli filling fan, just give me a bowl of the stuff and a spoon, so I am very picky about my cannolli filling and will easily reject anything that’s not thick enough, etc. This filling was not only fantastic, but plentiful, a huge portion both in the middle of the cream puff and on the top! Delicious!

Been living in the area for a few years now and never knew this bakery existed. We went by here this morning to stock up on goodies for the blizzard of 09(or whatever stupid name the news channels will give to this latest snow storm) anyhow I digress… We basically got one of everything, powdered sugar jelly donuts, danish, cranberry muffin, cookies, hard rolls, and the little raberry pastry things on top of the counter that unfortunately I don’t know the name of. Anyway our bakery shopping spree came to $ 6.35??? I thought she had made a mistake, she re-counted and nope it was right. We’ll definitely be visiting this place again.

Pretty damn bad for an old school Italian bakery. I think the original owners sold the place, because everything Italian here sucks, from the cannoli to the cookies etc(things don’t use the right ingredients, lack the right flavors, are stale, etc.). The American stuff isn’t terrible, but that itsn’t great either. It really sucks for me that it sucks because I live right nearby and love Italian bakery, but it says something that this place is bad enough to keep me away.

This is «the» place to be in Middletown on Sunday mornings. Great Italian pastries and the best donuts in town. They have semolina bread on Saturdays. I don’t recommend their pies, but I consider that a minor infraction. Definitely worth looking for a parallel parking spot.
