Don’t go there for the food. No one at my table enjoyed the food. Very bland flavor, definitely wasn’t worth it, way overpriced for my meal.

Fantastic! Took a ride to the island with no destination and found this cozy brewery. Our trip was made worth it by our server Casey! She was awesome! Guided us through the beer menu and suggestions on food items. Try the buffalo egg rolls!!! Delicious!

I enjoy visiting this brew pub every time I’m in the area. I love the Rhode Island calamari with the hot pepper. Wings are really good. They only serve their brews but I found a couple I really like. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Go back to this restaurant everything singe time I am in Newport which is a lot. It has a great atmosphere and the service is always top notch. However, the one thing that always brings me back is the food. It is really to die for, the lobster bisque here is definitely the best in Newport and the best I’ve ever had. The clam chowder is also great. Some entrees I recommend are the stuffed shrimp, stuffed sole, and shepard’s pie. Those are just some of my favorites but really everything here is great quality. I’m not a drinker but they also have a nice selection of craft beers. Definitely recommend if you’re anywhere near Newport, or even a few hours away!

Stopped in on St. Pats, as I was looking for a good dark beer and some corned beef. I sat at the bar, was promptly greeted, and poured a pint of their local stout. Beer was a 4.5÷5. Good taste, great aroma, and well poured. I ordered the corned beef sandwich, no kraut, extra dressing. All aspects were met, but still a little light on the dressing. The meat was very moist, not over done and dried out. The bread was perfectly grilled. Overall, it was a great meal, friendly atmosphere, and good brew.

Just ate here and it was incredible. Great food. Had the Brewers Blues which is a 8oz burger stuffed with blue cheese. The service here is great as well. You are always checked on and everyone is wicked friendly. Definitely a must visit if you are in Newport, RI

I recently checked out Coddington brewery at the recommendation of a co-worker. The place was relatively empty on a Sunday around mid-afternoon. We were promptly seated and I ordered up their IPA. The beer was ok, although a bit on the malty side for an IPA. We checked out the menu and I ordered the black bean burger, while my husband ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. The sandwiches came with pretty tasty seasoned curly fries. The fries were awesome but our sandwiches were only ok. I wasn’t a huge fan of the ciabatta bread that the black bean burger came on, but I did like the quac. I also got the blueberry beer which was also ok. Our server was very nice and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Altogether, I would say that Coddington is not bad, but it’s not exactly impressive either. It’s close enough to Newport that I would probably stick to Pour Judgment or another establishment where the food is slightly better. Not sure if I’ll return or not.

Overall the place was busy for a Friday night. Wait staff could have been a little more attentive and food was decent but I must say the owner of the place Billy is so arrogant! Unfriendliest man I have ever seen you would think you could smile a little bit

Extended stay in Middletown, Rhode Island meant we had the pleasure of eating here 4 – 5 times. Everything has been delicious! The clam chowder is an absolute favorite. The service is wonderful. The chocolate martinis are amazing. A little pricey but worth every penny.

While our party of 5 were in Newport to visit the mansions for the day, we purposely made our way to Coddington to try their local foods and in house brews. We were excited to see a huge crowd already at the restaurant and their own beer vats. We were looking forward to enjoy all that they had to offer! We set right into ordering the tasting tray which comes with 6 of their own brews priced very well at $ 15. We had everything except the Belgian which was too high in alcohol volume. For the drinkers, we noticed the beers were very underwhelming. There wasn’t much flavor that made it its own. Where we expected sweet, there was bitter, where we expected malt, there was none; we were not happy about the beer offerings. Then we ordered the foods and started with an order of the wings. The wings were enjoyable and hot. They did a good job on the wings and it was a good starter. Then came the entrees’ corned beef reuben, shepherd’s pie, bbq combo, calamari fra diavolo, and stuffed scallops. By far, the best offering was the shepherd’s pie where the crust was tasty, the beef was plentiful, and the seasoning quite enjoyable. The worst offering was the bbq combo where the rubs were dry and small, chicken was also dry and just drenched in sauce. Even the bbq presentation was sad to see. Everything else we ate had its ups and downs depending who you talked to within the group. We did enjoy the small town feel to the restaurant and the friendly staff surely made up for the poor food. Ferrin was a great waitress even though she was run ragged with a large area.

Came here for a quick lunch and was shocked they weren’t to busy which was nice. Came in hostess seated us right away. Waitress came right over with our menus. Ordered up a beer flight which is the best way to go here. Food was good nothing to complain about really. We had the turkey plate which is an open face sandwhich. Don’t know why they didn’t call it that lol. Only complaint with it was instead of mash potatoes and stuffing. Offer just one with a side vegetable. Had the chicken sandwhich and was moist and tasted great with the pesto mayo. Overall a pleasant experience and will be back for sure.

Stopped here on way into Newport. Friendly bar with sports on and beer on tap. Lobster salad was tasty for $ 13. Not a huge fan of the Coddington Brewery beers but they are okay. It’s a cozy, friendly spot away from touristy downtown.

The flight of beers was a generous pour so either plan to hang a while or possibly share if you have to drive. The husband and I both really likes some of their beers, especially the blueberry and the watermelon. The flight is really the best way to try out a brewery’s selection. One of the best waitresses we’ve had on our trip so far, very friendly and attentive. She even suggested that we visit the winery down the way which was an epic suggestion!(Newport winery) Besides the flight of beers we had the lobster bisque and it was surprisingly very good! The rest of the menu was a mush-mosh of bar food(wings, burgers) a spattering of seafood items(raw clams, quinoa and shrimp, clam chowder) and interesting/odd offerings(turkey platter with all the standard thanksgiving offerings). It seems that they are maybe trying to be current with the menu since the décor of the restaurant is very 1995 — hunter green and maroon colors with brass accents. I know it is not easy but I think they could really get a good bang for their buck if they did a décor and menu overhaul. The location is not in the downtown Newport shopping area but with the Newport Storm, Tew distillery and the Newport winery all in the same general area I think Coddingtons would have the most to gain from an overhaul as they are the only ones with a full restaurant. Would definitely go back.

Amazing pulled pork sandwich! Even the bun is so delicious you could eat it by itself! Got it quick too! I went here for lunch and it wasn’t too busy. Perfect for someone like me. Pickles came on the side which is good cuz I don’t like pickles and it came with a side of coleslaw and, of course, curly fries which are also amazing. Photo posted.

I wish the service would have been better! Ordered a beer lady didn’t bring it until I reminded her as I got my meal. My co worker got his salad first, I had to wait for mine as it arrived with my meal even though i asked her if I could have first. The lobster roll sand which was good as well as the salad. But the service was absolutely horrible! We were there on a Monday around 2 pm with only 3 other tables, so no excuse.

I’ve been here several times in the last few years while visiting Newport, and I’ve been impressed each time. First, the food. Lots of options here: burgers, sandwiches, seafood, steaks, pizza, salads. They’ve got something for everyone. And something for every mood. Everything my wife and I have ever had has been good. And as a bonus, as the name suggests, it’s a brewery. They make several beers. While they’re not the greatest of brews(if you have a fine taste of beers), they’re still pretty good. The average beer drinker will find them plenty acceptable. And for the elite beer tasters — hey, it’s impressive just to get something different and better than Bud Light and Corona. I have much respect for anyone who can brew decent beer. It’s a difficult craft. I’m also impressed with the overall experience. Very clean place. Good dining room. Good bar area. Good staff. Prices are reasonable. And one of my favorite things: the wait times are some of the easiest in the area. Go anywhere in downtown Newport, and a wait time of 2 hours or more is almost standard during peak dinner hours(if you can get in at all). At Coddington, I’ve gotten seated right away or have had short waits. It’s not because it’s bad food. It’s because it’s a few miles away from the busy part of town. You’ll definitely need to drive there. It’s the only place in its little neighborhood. This is a good thing — because it’s kind of like a hidden gem!

First time coming here after driving by a few times. I started with cheese and bacon potato skins as an appetizer. Not really any flavor and the skins weren’t really meaty. My main meal was the BBQ combo, which came with a salad, baked beans, mashed potatoes, chicken breast and ½ rack of pork ribs. The salad was a house salad and good. The baked beans didn’t really do it. It really looked and tasted like a can of pork & beans. The mashed potatoes was okay. The chicken breast was very small and hidden under my ribs. The BBQ sauce was tasty. All in all, it was decent. Not over the top to bring me back. I’ll give it a second chance, but not in a hurry to do so.

This place was fairly quiet for lunch time on a Saturday. The hostess was sporting a bit of an attitude also. Not a good way to start our visit. Our server did arrive promptly, with a smile. We placed our drink orders, Malbec for me and one of their brews for my husband. Our waitress was back quickly with a glass of water for just me.(???). Odd. We ordered the buffalo chicken tenders. They were a good size and tasty. The blue cheese dressing was very good. We don’t normally finish the dressing when we get chicken tenders, but there wasn’t a drop left this time. Our meals came with a salad and they salad was OK. I ordered the Portuguese Scallops. They were a bit weird. It was your basic baked scallops with a lemon-wine broth and bread crumbs that they then added chourico to. The lemon was overpowering and didn’t mesh well with the chourico. It was an odd combination. I definitely wouldn’t order this again. I had broccoli and fries on the side and both were lukewarm. My husband had the tuna, which he thought was OK, but his sides were also lukewarm. It was over $ 90 before tip and this meal wasn’t worth that. I won’t be rushing back.
