AMAZINGFOOD, authentic, nothing but amazing people and food. The steak is amazing as well as the rellenos. Also they have the best variety of Goya drink you don’t usually see. This is a must if you’re in the Orange County area. I will definitely visit every week!

Ive been here twice… both times were horrible. Oily rice!!! Could literally pour the oil out of the tin. Microwaved tostones! Was given hunks of fat instead of pernil. Waited 20 minutes at the counter to have my order taken. Will never go again.

Born and raised on authentic Puerto Rican food, this place is second best to Abuelita’s. The food is phenomenal which makes up for the lack of seating. Totally worth every dollar and every moment spent eating the delicious food.

When I was a teenager, growing up in Middletown, my friends and I used to walk home from school a lot. Since the last thing we actually wanted to do was be at home with our parents, doing homework or chores, we’d take detours around town and spend a few extra hour hangin’ out. All that hangin’ made us hungry, which is how we eventually ended up and settled at Cuchifrito’s, the end to our food migration. This place is a teeny little hole in the wall, and you’ll know you’ve found it when you spot the Puerto Rican flag awning over the front door. The space is very small and there’s nothing at all flashy about it, but it’s fun to sit there and people watch and just BE in town. The food is all authentic, homestyle Puerto Rican and super, ridiculously cheap. Two dollars can probably get you a pound and a half of pernil, plantains, rice and beans and a plane ticket to PR — they’re just that generous. They also sell really fantastic empanadas(I’m partial to the chicken and cheese myself) that come out steaming hot every single time. I’m happy to see that this place has been around so long and that it’s loved so much by the people in the community. I don’t live in Middletown anymore but when I’m visiting, I always try to make a special trip over to Cuchfritos and completely stuff myself with awesome food.

Can’t get real Puerto Rican food in this area! This is the real stuff and worth the trip. Food is fresh, seasoned well, and plentiful! Nice touches like traditional beverages and desserts! Best alcapurrias!

The staff is so welcoming! Went for lunch after a long night of wine and fun, wanted comfort food… Everything was DELICIOUS! Awesome artwork of Puerto Rico… I hadn’t been in a few years and it is just as I remember. Lovely ! Wish I didn’t live an hour away or they’d see me every day for lunch!

The food tastes great and always has, but there are also some downsides. The service is not always the best and the prices keep increasing all the time. Last time I went there Julio(the owner) was acting very strange and had a very difficult time getting my order right. He also seemed very irritated with the workers and customers. He was being rude to some of them and then kept talking trash about customers behind their backs. I thought that was very unprofessional and a very bad way of doing business. When customers would leave the store he would start talking bad about them loud enough that everyone in the store could hear him. It was very strange. Hopefully everything is alright with him, but it almost seemed like he was under the influence of some kind of drugs or something that day. He’s always been kind of loud and boisterous, but on this day he took it to a whole new level. That day I think I saw him be rude to or talk bad about five different people. When his wife is there, she’s usually very good though. As I said, the food is great. The only exception was the maduros(soft plantains) last time I went there. Usually they are great but last time I went there they were terrible. The rest of the food was great as always though. I also don’t like the fact that the meals are supposed to come with a salad but they will never give you a salad unless you ask. I guess you’ve got to take the good with the bad if you want to eat there.

Small place, but the food was delicious, I can’t wait to go back. Just like I remember growing up, there Alcapurias were to die for, a little of wait but it was worth it.

The best homestyle Puerto Rican food in Orange County. I’ve been here with my family three or four times and the food is always DELICIOUS and AUTHENTIC! I don’t visit as often as I’d like because it is fried and greasy but that’s what makes it Cuchifrito. The décor is simple and small but the service is great. Reminds me of the Cuchifrito’s I grew up going to in The Bronx

Small little restaurant that serves really good authentic Puerto Rican dishes. Big portions & good prices. Had arroz con gandules(yellow rice w/pigeon peas) with chuletas(pork chops) and maduros(fried sweet plantains). Delicious!

I happened to be in Middletown Christmas shopping when me and my lady got hungry. Out of all the Unilocal possibilities, Spanish food quickly became our desired lunch meal. The food was fantastic, we had delicious stuffed potatoes, pernil, yellow rice with pigeon peas, and sweet fried plantains. The meal was outstanding! The owner obvious takes great pride in what he serves. The only only question remaining is, «when can we get back to get more?»

What can I say, it’s like finding a gold mine. Spanish food in the Hudson Valley! Oh yes. One of my favorite places. Food is good enough to rival some places down in the big city.

I’ve gotten a bunch of different things here, all of them were good. The sweet bananas that come with the meal are awesome, their pernil is awesome, the mashed potato balls with meat in them(rellenos de papa) AWESOME. The food is a bit greasy, but in a good way. Service is super friendly. One night we went with a big group and they only had limited food left, so they shut down the restaurant and served us an assortment of whatever they had left, and it was all good. They also have an assortment of tropical sodas to choose from, and flavored ices for desert. I’m guilty of driving almost an hour just to get dinner here, and despite ALL of the restaurants in Middletown I always beg my wife to go here when we are in the area.

Wow really good. I got the chicken stew and it was great. Delicious potatoes, chicken on the bone, yellow rice with olives, and these fried bananas. Jackpot. You can see them cooking in the back which is fun. It’s a little tight space wise so if that’s a problem you can get your meal to go. They have a cooler for drinks which has Goya products, water and juices and Gatorade. Give them a try!

My food was microwaved to make hot. The rice was sitting out on the counter not iced down or refrigerated. I spend 28.00 on food I was kinda afraid to eat. It took 45 minutes to prepare, yet everything was already made. Used to be a regular now I am staying clear of this health hazard.

CUCHIFRITO!!! PRO: Another Puerto Rican restaurant in the Hudson Valley that has great food at great prices. The Pernil w/Yellow Rice & Beans were on point. I was so high off it, I was going to sell my Camry on the street and take the money to buy beans. I was going to mash the beans, buy a kit and shoot the liquid in my veins but I hate needles. *I’m really f*cked up — I REALLY hate needles yet I give blood regularly since 1993… watch your back around me… I’m CRAZYMAN!!! CON: They’re in Middletown and I live over an hour away. This will not be a regular spot to visit. Hell no… my ass is not going to Middletown for a Nuyurican Fix. 87 octane is expensive bitch!

I tried them at the Garlic Festival in Saugerties and I was THRILLED to see how good it was. The alcapurrias were huge and delicious and not greasy! I wish they were in Saugerties every day! I miss the authentic PR food that I grew up with in the Bronx and no one around here even knows what Cuchifrito is so of course when I saw that stand at the festival I RAN to it! :) I wish I was closer to Middletown, but if I’m ever in that direction, I’ll be sure to stop in!

Authentic Puerto Rican. Just like my family makes. I had the pernil, white rice and beans and sweet plantains. The pork was a little dry but the beans had incredible flavor. So delicious.

If you’re looking for homestyle Latino/Puerto Rican cuisine in the heart of Middletown, look no further. This small restaurant sports excellent homemade Puerto Rican cuisine as good as any of my 2 Puerto Rican ex’s mothers’. :) There’s no ambiance to speak of, so feel free to get it delivered, take out or eat-in.
