In Middletown for more reasonably costing lodging. Checking Unilocal for breakfast and saw the Blue Plate just Wow. This place is so cool, a Retro feel but obviously everything has been done over and is immaculate. Clever but not overwhelming quotes on the ceiling headers made my day. The food was excellent and well presented, service right on the mark. I had a homemade Hash with poached and Nancy had a California omelet, we I will go out of my way to try and get back for other meals. Not typical dinner coffee, not typical, the Blue Plate certainly isn’t.

We went here after lunch hour on a Sunday. The food was mmmm… okay! I’m not from RI, true southerner here and I was not impressed with the breakfast. My toast was burnt, my pancakes were so rubbery, and my home fries were way too salty. I was steered to this place by locals and other military families who have dined here. My waiter was fabulous! He was attentive and brought our food out in a timely manner. I will give this place another try and go for dinner hour and order something off the dinner menu. The price was good for a. Family of 5 so yes, we’ll give this place another try.

This is a very enjoyable diner. If you like comfort food this is the place! The waitstaff are dressed more upscale and are awesome, as far as making sure your meal is to your liking. I enjoyed the Chicken pot pie and my friend had the calamari salad which he raved over, We will definitely be going back.

We came here for a birthday breakfast and my husband had to substitute a couple of items(food restriction issue, not an allergy) and they were not able to do that so we left. Very disappointing —

I gave it 5 stars for the home made breads, and cleanliness. They actually don’t use dirty rags to wipe down tables. Actual cleaning spray… The food was just good diner food. Nothing to brag about nor complain about.

Really nice and clean place. Comfortable and not crowded. Not too loud. We had omelets. Hot, fluffy and good! Home fries were hot and flavorful. I’d definitely come back.

Ate here last night. Cute little diner. It had a good selection of items and the food was fairly tasty but service was slow; we only saw one waitress working the entire restaurant. Our sodas were flat. My wife’s pasta dish wasn’t prepared as indicated on the menu. The waitress had indicated they were out of Sambuca, which was one of the ingredients; when the dish came, it smelled of licorice so it seemed to have Sambuca but was missing the sun-dried tomatoes that were also in the description. At the end of the meal, the waitress didn’t bother to ask if we wanted dessert. She simply gave us our check.

This is a nice diner. The asthetics are spot on, from the furnature to the uniforms, this place has got that quintessential American diner style spot on. The food is reasonably priced, and the staff is very polite. Our server, Kimberly, was a sweetheart and quick to get us refills and the like. The food was average.(But there was a LOT on the menu that I couldn’t try in my one visit passing through the area.) The omelet was perfect, the breakfast potatoes were ok but a little over spiced, the toast was good, the blueberry pancakes great, the hamburger was not bad but clearly preformed, and a chocolate milkshake was ok. I didn’t eat this all myself, I’m crowd sourcing the food reviews from the friends who came with me. Overall, we enjoyed it. It wasn’t the best diner I’ve ever been to, but it was still great comfort food. My table was in agreement that we would reccomend this diner. Note: Breakfast is sold all day, but the waffel iron turns off at 2 p.m.

Nice small town dinner compared to major chains. We went on a Sunday and there was only one waitress working the tables. Also didn’t have anything but whole milk in stock for coffee… please have more diet friendly options. Pancakes are very good.

The service was excellent and this is a well managed place. I didn’t have much, just a bowl of soup and a chocolate shake but both were disappointing.

The ambiance here took me back to the 1960’s. A very much welcomed escape from the modern dinner. The meals are Very hearty and large portions. Ordered the French Toast with caramelized banana and The Greek Omelette. It was fantastic.

We’ve only been here a few times for breakfast. It’s your standard diner breakfast. They have omelettes and breakfast sandwiches. The standard basic eggs any style, a choice of meat, served with home fries and toast was very good. I added a side of pancakes to share. These are nothing to write home about, but like any other, adding syrup and butter makes them just as delicious as everywhere else. We haven’t tried their lunch or dinner menu so I can’t comment. Do get a seat before 9 am on the weekends, it fills up fast.

Came here for lunch. My review is for the food only. My only gripe about this place is that I ordered eggs benedict and my eggs were fully cooked not runny. I was disappointed because they had alot of good reviews for their breakfast menu. And my favorite breakfast food is eggs benedict. I will be back again, hopefully next time will be a better experience.

Stopped in this morning for breakfast while on a long weekend in Newport. The diner has a great retro feel, clean, and great service. I ordered the blue plate pancakes, a stack of three fluffy, delicious pancakes with out of this world caramelized bananas on top. My brother had the crow’s nest, like eggs benedict with corned beef hash, which he said was awesome, and my mother ordered the potato omelette which was by far the best omelette she’s ever tasted. Our server, Jessica, was excellent. All in all a great place to stop.

I remember when this place opened. It didn’t have the greatest rep for some reason, but it’s pretty good. While on the Island the other night, my partner and I went to Blue Plate for a late dinner. I had the Greek Omelette and he had the Eggs Benedict. We found the portions to be very generous(leftovers!) and the service to be pretty good. Food seemed fresh and came out very quickly. I’m only providing a 4 star rating because my server did not allow me to substitute in fruit or toast for my home fries. Other places usually do this without issue. Regardless, the food was AWESOME. Other users have complained about price… really though, considering the amount of food we got for $ 8.99-$ 9.99 each, it was really good. Being an Aquidneck Island native, I feel comfortable sharing that many restaurants(particularly in Newport) will skim on quality because they know they’ll get the business anyway.(And you will definitely pay more.) This is certainly not true of Blue Plate. If you want cheaper food, go to the Creamery – it’s also good, but definitely not as high quality. Portions are also smaller. We will definitely be back! Other Unilocalers have pointed this out, but I wanted to add that the retro atmosphere is very cool.

The best thing about the Blue Plate Diner is its retro décor, all diner-ish with chrome and comfy booths. The food, however, is utterly meh. You could do better just by cleaning out your refrigerator and finally getting rid of that limp box of salad greens. That’s what I got, for considerably more than my refrigerator would have charged me: a big bowl of limp. I wouldn’t have ordered salad at all, mind you, if the diner hadn’t wanted to charge me $ 2 to slap my sandwich onto some lettuce instead of bread. They like to upcharge, these guys. Not the most generous place, that’s for sure. Unapologetic about it, too. So I got three eggs, easy over, that I could have made at home. I got a limp salad that was scraped from the back of the oh-no-there’s-been-a-snowstorm-and-we-couldn’t-get-to-the-store bin. Worst of all, I got a lack of grace from people who are unaccommodating to diabetics and others who eat low-carb. I visited this place once when they first opened. This was my second time. It will be my last.

Blue Plate Diner is a solid breakfast and lunch joint. The diner is fitted with retro décor, big comfy booths, a dessert case filled with big beautiful treats, a huge menu, and even a full service bar that serves up spiked milkshakes! I have been for breakfast and lunch, which were both yummy. However, I was disappointed in their eggs benedict which lacked in flavor. Service has been great, I’ve had some wonderful waitresses here that treat you like family. I adore that many of the servers here match their personal styling to the retro vibe of the diner. The price is a bit high for fairly average diner fare. Hence the 3 star rating(I’d give 3.5 if I could). The location is super easy to visit from anywhere in Middletown/Newport and there is a good sized parking lot out front. It seems like it would be a fantastic place to bring the whole family… I know I will be taking my nephews for breakfast one morning of their visit here.

Always enjoyed this site. During my tenure as a student, we had group seminars here accompanied with gallons of coffee and great service. Today the service remains outstanding despite the unfortunate decision last night to go down to a single waitress; the poor gal was run ragged but never complained, had anything other than a smile, and was so apologetic for the slightly slower service. Well done and KUDOS to her. She more than deserved a big tip. This trip was the first time I tried the bar side. The TV remote made me chuckle as it was one of those for need of larger buttons and was the size of a dictionary. The bar offers a wide assortment of liquors and bottle beer along with a couple taps, It was quiet on the bar side but nice to watch the game while enjoying a snack. Free WiFi so I didn’t even have to use my limited data time to write this review… HoooYa

I’m not sure why this place is getting decent reviews. We stopped by the Blue Plate Diner this past Monday(7⁄16), it was about 1PM and we had a long drive back to Baltimore ahead of us. I wanted to get some coffee and lunch while the fiancée finished her homework, rather than having to do it when we got home after driving for 7 hours. Blue Plate is a typical looking diner, only apt to the name everything is painted blue. The menu is typical diner fare, minus the Greek dishes that are often found at diners. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich(picture included), it was just greasy, fried, and nothing special. The fiancée’s salad was alright, nothing special either. After finishing our food, I wanted to order coffee and hang out for a bit so the fiancée could do her work and so that I could caffeinate up for the ride ahead. Prior to ordering though, the waitress just brings the check over with a «Just let me know when you’re ready.» I tell her that I would like to order coffee and she just kind of gives me this look of «OKKKKK.» I order, she brings the coffee and almost immediately after a check to go with it(Jeeze what if I wanted to order something else?). This time, she goes, «not to rush you or anything.» I think she picked up that we were taken aback by her essentially trying to shove us out the door and she asks, «So do you guys hate nice weather or something?» I mean way to be an ambassador to your business. There was something else that I didn’t really enjoy about the ambiance. They have these quotes on the ceiling that are supposed to be clever — and perhaps I’m putting too much into this — but one of them reads, «Thou shall not only order coffee.» Call me nuts, but you should be grateful for ANY business that someone gives you. The only Starbucks in Newport is in the downtown where you have to pay $ 20 to park. If I was local, it wouldn’t surprise me if I stopped in here to get some work done over coffee, but after reading I would have just taken my business elsewhere. I think the owner intended this to be some fun kind of decoration, but something about it rubbed me the wrong way. I would not repeat.
