Not good. Ended up here by mistake(got confused with the Red FOX). Asked the waiter about the best thing on the menu. He said the fish & chips… should have been our first clue! If the best thing coming out of the kitchen is deep fried, there can’t be a lot of talent there. My sister got that, which was super greasy. I got a chicken panini. NO pesto on it, as advertised(it was tons of mayo) and the sandwich was not even hot! Don’t know what their definition of panini is, but I was disappointed. The place is run down, food is bad. One high point… waiters were friendly & drinks were strong. Thank goodness!

My husband and I stopped here on our way home from a drive in the country. We were a little worried because there aren’t many restaurants in the area outside of Middleburg(unless you want to head to the more congested areas east) and with no competition some restaurants may not care much about quality of their food. But we were pleasantly surprised with our find. The menu was basic pub fare. The burgers were great, the salad was fresh, and the prices were pretty average for this type of restaurant. $ 11 for a burger and fries isn’t bad. The service was OK, not overly terrific but not bad at all. College aged kids working in a local tavern in a small country town. That fit right in with our relaxed day in the country.

Service wasn’t all that great… Mid-week, after lunchtime, only 2 others dining… I ordered the entrée mussels. I’ve had them here before, maybe 1 – 2 years ago That’s why ordered them again, thinking they would be the same or maybe even better. Well, that was definitely NOT the case! The mussels themselves were okay, nothing to come back for. The broth was marginal, at best. The bread was probably the only good thing in the bowl. I can’t write about anything else, because there wasn’t anything else in the bowl! Thanks for a disappointing meal!!!

Excellent food, a little expensive for the portion that it’s served, but good quality. Service ok, let’s say it’s average. Restrooms need a remodeling.

The service was terrible. NONE of their staff greeted us and it took them ten minutes until someone brought us a menu. NONE of the staff smiled. They had to have been the worst attitudes I have ever seen in a wait staff. The food was like cafeteria food except greasier. Please don’t waste your time with this place, learn from our mistake!!!

This is basic burger and fish and chips place. Service was good but flies were abundant and no real atmosphere I tried several menu items including the potato chip nachos which were ok. The wings weren’t bad but the cheese steak was inedible. A few people in my party got fish and chips which looked ok. Seems like good place for pint but not sure the food is worth it. Prices are very reasonable thou

Good service, good food, I had the steak sandwich with fries and it was the perfect portion size. Prices are reasonable. We walked around middle burg and lots of the restaurants were closed and the open ones were a bit pretentious. The Red Horse Tavern was down to earth and much more accessible.

Stumbled upon the Red Horse Tavern while I was wandering down Washington street in Middleburg. It looked pretty busy so I thought that was a good sign. There is lots of outdoor seating. The inside is set up like a bar(hence the name tavern) with bar seating, some tables in the main bar area, and seating in the annex room off the bar. There was a wait to sit outside so my friend and I sat in the annex room. There was no AC. The menu was pretty standard for a bar menu so I wasn’t expecting much to begin with. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich($ 9.50) and my friend had the fish and chips. The service was painfully slow and food was mediocre at best. My friend had to chase the waiter down to pay the bill and the room we were sitting in was very stuffy. I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this place — I would rather try something else in the vicinity.

Nice spot for lunch or dinner after work. I didn’t have any drinks but it looks like a good place for happy hour after work. There’s plenty of room for seating outdoors(when it actually gets warm) and inside. I tried the fish and chips and was a little nervous because in the past this dish can be a bit greasy but it was very good! I’m looking forward to returning and actually having a drink.

Great place to watch the Super Bowl. Food was pretty good but not superb. It is unpretentious and that is hard to find in Middleburg.

What a gem of a spot! I have to admit, I was a little skeptical not based on appearance but because it looks like your local watering hole and we are out on valentines day! Turned out, the place is perfect! The sauv blanc is going down well, the food is great(tavern food, nothing frou frou) we have wings and delicious homemade chips, and everyone is very friendly from the bartenders to the other people at the bar. We will be back!

Food was good. The atmosphere was not. It is a shame that they haven’t capitalized on the historic property and the ambience of the town in the tavern. 2 groups of customers stopped in and promptly left. The staff was very unconcerned about lost business.

Food is good, beer is cold, and place is warm and cozy, just like Middleburg, VA. Good service.

So it’s one of those moments that I wish I could take back. The one time I did not check Unilocal!reviews I ended up here and all I have to say is, «Awful» with a capital A. I was walking down the main street when I decided to walk in with a part of 3. There was no energy. The dining room was dark and dull. We looked at the menu and it looked ok for a quick bite. The waiting staff looked frantic and inhospitable. It also looked like a place that could use John Taffer from the tv show«Bar Rescue». I certainly don’t want to be rude but the staff not only looked uncaring, their clothes and appearance was just down right dirty and unappealing. I understand they are working at a greasy restaurant but I have seen more polished staff at the McDonalds and Chik Fila. We placed the order for drinks and appetizer(Potato Nachos) and because we were hungry we also ordered the food.(Irish Burger, Salad, Chilli, Soup) The service was awful and the uncaring attitude was so visible that at one point we looked at each other and said, «Should we just leave?» but I felt guilty since the order was already in. The Nachos showed up and it was tolerable with a few burnt chips. When you are hungry, you will put up with a lot. When the food showed up and I took my first bite of the burger, it was simply horrible. The beef not only tasted bad it tasted like it’s expired or old. The egg on the top was uncooked. The soup was just as horrible. I asked for the check and we left to have dinner at a different place. I haven never felt so bad for not checking the reviews and it clearly cost me a pretty penny.

Cheap greasy food. It’s basically the McDonalds of Middleburg. And the joint needs a renovation, or some maintenance. Maybe a coat of paint, like five years ago. But they serve Guinness on tap, so there’s that.

After an amazing dinner at The French Hound, we attempted to grab drinks at Red Fox Inn but found that it was closed for the evening. We walked over to Red Horse Tavern to grab a drink. The bar seemed to be limitly stocked but surprisingly carried things like blueberry stoli and jameson(the liquor of choice for the night.) This place is exteremely casual and laid back. We sat outside on the patio to chat which was relaxing. The service was nice and fast, considering the small bar seemed somewhat full and there was only one bartender. Wouldnt mind coming back.

They let dogs into the patio area. So you have to be ready for that. The food was mediocre to bad. My husband said his Reuben sandwich was the worst. Service WITHOUT a smile. The wait staff seemed pissed we were even there. And it took forever to get the food! See if you can find another place to eat. Fine place to hang out and drink. I think they allow smoking.

Very basic bar/tavern at a prime location with outdoor seating. Most people were attracted to the outdoor seating. One friend told us that it was interesting to watch the vintage vehicles drove through the city. The table we wanted had wet chairs and we wanted to see if there was a cloth to wipe the chairs. We went inside it was dark and there were hardly any servers. We told the bartender, he looked confused but he promptly came out and picked up a cloth to dry the chairs. I had a chicken burrito with salsa and avocado, I took the one half it did not have avocado, it turned all of the avocado was in the other half. The burrito was average the chicken was too dry and i had to chew for awhile. The server was nice though! Overall, the tavern looked better than it really was.

I asked for an IPA and the server brought a Pale Ale. I ordered the Mussels, which includes a nice broth/sauce. But the server only brought a knife and fork,(NO spoon). Lastly, same story when I ordered dessert. They brought a fork, instead of a spoon. When I did ask for spoons for my date and I, they brought soup spoons. Really? One redeeming factor — I was hungry so the food tasted good. Red Horse tavern — EPIC Fail.

Service was good, no complaints there but the food tasted just okay; nothing special at all unfortunately.
